Random Monday Morning Thoughts

I'll admit I had, amazingly, forgotten about this. "Investigators say 56-year-old Aziz Yazdanpanah, who had marital and financial problems, killed his estranged wife, their two teenage children, his wife's sister, his brother-in-law and his niece before turning the gun on himself." He arrived dressed in a Santa Clause suit.

  • From last night: "Police said that surveillance footage showed the gunman get out of a white Dodge pickup, open the doors of the store and fire a gun, striking the victims. The gunman then got in the passenger side of the truck and left, police said." That sounds like a hit.

  • The skirmish on the Redskins sideline almost started with a knockout. That guy missed the other guy's chin by hair when he through that haymaker. Video

  • If the President of the United States talks to your kid on Christmas, but you want to be a jerk, you deserve all the backlash you get for being an unmannered philistine.  ("Jared Schmeck, 35, who works for an electric company and was previously a Medford police officer for six years until he resigned in July 2018.")

    • Oh, and you are definitely simple minded.

  • That's a heck of lede to that story.

  • I never really noticed that that the pharmacist in It's a Wonderful Life is distraught because his son died in the Flu Pandemic of 1918.

  • I think it's an absolute defense to any assault charge if the victim is Alex Jones.

  • I did not expect that book-in photo to go with that headline.

  • Texas has shut down it's COVID reporting over the last four days, so I'll be interested to see what the numbers did. I did note that JPS hospital, which did report numbers, has almost doubled its COVID occupancy in five days.
  • I failed to mention on Thursday that of Rep. David Spiller's (R-Jacksboro) three opponents, two have actually been arrested. One for Aggravated Assault and the other for being a Trump Insurrectionist. The other guy needs to step up his game.

  • We've got bowl cancellations like crazy: Hawaii Bowl, Fenway Bowl (SMU),  Military Bowl and now the Sun Bowl. The Sun Bowl actually could scramble and find an opponent for Washington State, and the coach at Stephen F. Austin is lobbying to go play on four days notice.

  • Some very nice lady who was "working on a story about New Year's resolutions" thought it would be a good idea to ask the grumpiest coach in the NFL if he "had any." It was just after a loss.  Video.

  • What I'm watching: Veep, for the first time ever. Very funny.  What I'm excited to watch but haven't yet: Don't Look Up (where there are such gems as the nuclear codes being carried in a $30,000 Burkin bag -- the movie is basically a true-to-life Idiocracy.)

  • More crazy airplane passengers-acting-nuts videos if you haven't seen them: Here and here.
