Random Monday Morning Thoughts

On October 29, 2016, cheerleaders from Greenfield-McClain High School in Ohio displayed a banner reading "Hey Indians, Get Ready for a Trail of Tears Part 2" before a high school football game against the Hillsboro High School Indians

  • If you go to Deep Ellum, you're nuts. "The shootings occurred about 12:20 a.m. in the 2600 block of Elm Street, 1:05 a.m. in the 2600 block of Main Street and 1:35 a.m. in the 200 block of South Crowdus Street, according to a preliminary police investigation."

  • In Lake Highlands.  And the forehead tattoo would certainly add to the shock of it.

  • Gift link.

  • I'm sure you've seen the shocking video of the Lear jet, headed from Austin to the Bahamas, coming down like a rocket in Florida with nine people on board. And the audio between the pilot and the tower is chilling. No IDs yet.

  • Former Cowboys cheerleader, former contestant on The Bachelor, and the winner of Dancing with the Stars winner Melissa Rycroft Strickland has been arrested in Southlake on Halloween on a second-offense DWI charge.  And it sounds like she was on probation for the first DWI when this arrest occurred.
  • An ICE agent now faces state charges for running over a man.  (Side note of legal nerdy stuff : There seems to be a really good chance the agent can move the case to federal court.)

    • But the following is unheard of: The U.S. Attorney for that district goes after the local D.A. for pursing the state indictment.  (Typos and all.)

  • Oh, no! What hope is there for the rest of us?

  • Ken Paxton spoke to a small crowd in Fort Worth on Saturday, but a bus from Runaway Bay transported these folks to be a part of it.

  • Trump decided to body-shame the reporter again over the weekend.  Trump. Body-shame.
  • He's almost gone from your TV.

  • The Texas Supreme Court, all elected and/or appointed Republicans, protected their own on Friday.

  • Prosecutor (and NBA) news.

  • Embattled Federal District Judge Ada E. Brown failed to show up for her misconduct hearing in Fort Worth on Friday.  (Transcript of the proceeding  here.)

Random Friday Morning Thought

"Former FBI Director James Comey sent a letter to Congress on October 28, 2016 (eleven  days before the November 8 presidential election) announcing that the FBI was reopening the investigation into Hillary Clinton's private email server after discovering new emails connected to an unrelated probe of Anthony Weiner."  Side note: I've never thought this had any material impact on the election at all.

  • Late yesterday, there was the biggest crypto heist in history.

  • The ex-husband is to blame.

  • The option for probation was rejected by the jury.

  • The office has 273 attorney positions.

  • While almost all decent people have distanced from racist Bo French (he's the guy that recently posted the photo of the crowd at UT football game), Wise County Rep. Andy Hopper cozied up to him yesterday in Weatherford and posted a photo about it.

  • My annual reminder that people are not giving away drugs as candy despite news reports like this.

  • Honestly, I would have been worn out by all the travel days ago.

    • Trump was asked why he cancelled the trips ,and he responded this way which was then mockingly promoted by an official White House account.  We are in a dark place.

  • Trump is going to steal it: The subpoenas order the election workers to appear before a grand jury after the elections.

  • He went to the hospital, had an MRI, and then went  back to the game and caught two passes.

  • Gift link.

  • "Fans in Dallas-Fort Worth can use the streaming app CW33+ or tune into KDAF (channel 33) to watch all games."
  • Very nerdy legal stuff: Yesterday, the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals gave the police great leeway on the "inventory search" of a vehicle. Those searches rarely have anything to do with an inventory of the vehicle's contents.
  • Lauren Whitener Clock: 7 years and 119 days.

Random Thursday Morning Thoughts

With the election days away, Don Jr. tweeted that he helped a stranded motorist (who just happened to be black.)

  • In case you needed more evidence that federal judges are insufferable. Story.

  • Dan Patrick spoke at a "Get Out The Vote" rally in Mansfield last night.

  • "Kaden Matsuda, 19, and Jackson Donlon, 20, left Colorado Mountain College Leadville's campus for a hike on Friday and did not return, according to the sheriff's office. The pair were found dead 'in a basin of West Apostle Mountain in Chaffee County,' the sheriff's office said."
  • That alleged crime didn't exactly happen on a crowded beach in the middle of the day.

  • It begins. This attempt at a class action was filed last night.  It's guaranteed to be in front of MAGA judge because there is only one judge in the Amarillo Division.

  • Data breach exposing ICE agents and more.

  • The New York Times revealed yesterday that Senate hopeful Mary Peltola's campaign was behind two Dan Sullivans appearing on the ballot in Alaska. Her guys did in fact scour the entire state in order to try to find some guy with the same name as the incumbent in order to split the vote. And they found one. (Gift link.)

  • The Business Second™.

  • Trumpisms from last night.
    • Video

    • He still loves talking about passing the dementia test. Video

  • Legal stuff: I've kept seeing that federal judge Ada Brown (based in Dallas) was in hot water and had been "stripped of her docket" for alleged "erratic and abusive behavior."  Yesterday, we learned how it all started and the transcript of the hearing is interesting reading.

  • Gainesville has called off Friday's football game due to injuries, and will fall to 0-9 on the year after the forfeit. Side note: Bridgeport's only win this year was against Gainesville in the first game of the year, 38-0.
