Random Tuesday Morning Thoughts




The positioning of the picture next to the story got my attention back then.

  • These are incredible photos wereposted by a Fort Worth firefighter yesterday regarding a wreck on 287 at the Saginaw cutoff. That's a guardrail that went all the way through the vehicle. And the driver survived.


  • Rep. Jeff Leach, who may be the worst look-at-me guy in the Texas legislature, improperly contacted a judge in the Robert Roberson case to try and have her reconsider her vote.  Incredible. And the court then called him out yesterday. He 100% knew better.



    • He tried to do damage control.

  • This reminds me: Did Runaway Bay ever fix their problem where raw sewage would flow into Lake Bridgeport during heavy rains?

  • Bold move.

  • People don't realize how quickly you can find yourself in trouble if you don't know what you are doing or aren't adequately prepared. 


  • A right wing panelist got in big trouble after a comment on CNN last night in a callback to Israel killing people in Lebanon with exploding pagers. It was pretty wild. Video.


  • Not enough.

  • Dumb guys like that are in prison because of the Big Lie over a stolen election. And get ready. Jut like last time, Trump is already laying the groundwork to scream "It was stolen!"  It's coming. It is 100% coming. He a psychotic liar, and he did it again last night:
  • Of all the poor decision the Trump campaign has done, the Madison Square Garden rally might be the biggest disaster of them all. And you don't want it to be on the front page of the largest paper in the swing state of Pennsylvania - the state that Trump is panicking about above. 



  • Steve Bannon was released from prison this morning. 


  • I didn't know Fort Worth is getting a mini-Las Vegas sphere. The one up in The Colony has received rave reviews. Video.


  • Random local high school sports: Bridgeport won its Friday night game in a wild way. With the score tied, its opponent lined up for a game-winning field goal, but Bridgeport blocked it and returned it all the way back for the game winning score -- as time expired. And there's a great video of it.

Random Monday Morning Thoughts





I'm not sure they ever caught him. A couple from Paradise would later be federally indicted for a string of bank robberies around this time, but I don't see anything about a bank in Rhome being part of their charges.

  • Stephen Wren, long-time Decatur lawyer and former County Court at Law judge, passed away on Saturday. 

  • The Jeff Bezo owned Washington Post decided not to make an endorsement this year -- of all years -- in the presidential race. "Democracy Dies In Darkness" indeed.

    • Compare and Contrast the New York Times yesterday:

  • That Blue Alert guy was arrested on Friday afternoon. 

  • Another day. Another horrible wreck. "Fort Worth Police say a Ford Focus carrying a father, mother and their two children was traveling in the wrong direction on Loop 820 when it crashed into another vehicle. "


  • No injuries.

  • There were some lies spread on Friday of a Wise County voter having their vote "changed." This didn't happen. Don't embarrass yourself by spreading this lie or believing it.  Oh, and don't do this:


  • Holding a rally at Madison Square Garden, the home of a famous 1939 Nazi rally, and having a speaker insult minorities (video), is certainly a bold closing campaign strategy to persuade those who are "undecided." 



    • Ken Paxton, of course, was there.

    • A Sarah Palin sighting along with the Jewish Space Laser lady.

    • Trump lawyer, who was able to get him convicted of 34 felonies, came out on stage and danced to the podium. Video.

    • Totally normal. 

  • Trevon Diggs, somehow knew about a negative tweet during the game from WFAA's Mile Leslie, and confronts him on the way to the dressing room after the game.  Video.

  • Stunt drving on the campus of the Evil Empire on Saturday night.

  • The kicker for Texas Tech sported a handmade Trump T-shirt for the cameras on Saturday. Video. Tech then lost to TCU.
  • Someone going through the transcript of the Robert Roberson "shaken baby case" found this weird tidbit. While the jury was sequestered during the punishment phase to decide life or death, the judge joked about seeing a dirty movie with them. 

  • This seems like a big deal not getting enough attention: The Fifth Circuit, on Friday evening, ruled that mail in ballots received after election day cannot be counted.

Random Friday Morning Thoughts




And the defense attorneys were right: He was released on parole six days later. Still a genius move that caught the D.A. completely off guard . (Here's a very deep dive on the case from Slate.)

  • Regarding Cowboys' kicker Brandon Aubrey who is sitting on a jury in criminal trial in Tarrant County, one faithful reader pointed out that one of the defense lawyers, Robert Keating, graduated from Decatur High School in 1988.
    • Side note: In looking at other parts of the Tarrant County "trial board", I saw three not guilty verdicts this week. One of them in a murder case. 

  • If I ever get convicted of anything, I hope Netflix does a documentary so I can ultimately be set free. 

  • The Wall Street Journal has a revelation which should come as no surprise at all.

  • The amount of money that DPS troopers have been paid as overtime as part of this is insane. 

  • Israel continues its random bombings.


  • Our Wise County Judge, J.D. Clark, has released a new single today.  (Spotify link.)

    • Last night. It's such a strange strategy to bad mouth America.

    • Just incredible. (From the Turning Point rally two days ago.)

  • Kamala Harris rallies: Beyonce today. Springsteen last night.

     



  •  Rupert Murdoch's paper endorses Trump today. No surprise.

  • The "very private" Dak Prescott continues to beat me down. He has a photographer at his engagement proposal, splashes it on Instagram last week, and now gives interviews about it. All while earning $60 million a year as a season collapses around him.


  • If you are a high school football fan, you won't believe the ending of an overtime game last night at The Star. Video.
  • Time which has passed since the Wise County Sheriff's Office, despite having a full male DNA profile, has failed to solve the murder of Lauren Whitener in her home at Lake Bridgeport: 5 years and 112 days.
