Random Wednesday Mornign Thoughts

This is a follow-up to a last week's 10-Years-Ago post.  A faithful reader also reminded me that Tracy Smith would pass away three years later. The ME ruled it a suicide

  • The Chief of Police of Colleyville, Michael Miller, is a former Wise County deputy.

  • By this time tomorrow, we will know if they were right:

  • Locally, the Liberally Lean Weather Center tells me that the highs for next Tuesday and Wednesday will only be 72 degrees around here.
  • She was hired simply as PR move during a Mavericks sex harassment scandal, served only as a (relatively out of sight) figurehead, and her job was guaranteed to be eliminated once Mark Cuban sold out. I never got over the fact that when she was hired in 2018 she said she had never even heard of Cuban before he called her.

  • "On October 8, 2024, at about 3:00 p.m., a Dallas Mounted Officer was patrolling at Big Tex Circle inside the State Fair of Texas when his horse was startled. The officer tried to regain control the horse, and in the process a fair patron was injured. The officer was then bucked off the horse. Dallas Fire Rescue transported the fair patron to a local hospital to be treated for injuries."

  • Oh, man. The bee attack happened in North Richland Hills a couple of weeks ago.

  • Random Throw-Up-My-Hands-Bullet-Point: This country isn't smart enough to continue, is it? Seriously.  I've said this before: I used to believe the average person I came in contact with was a thoughtful and rationale human being. But since the advent of social media where I can now see what they believe, I think I'm surrounded by nutcases.

  • There seems to be lots of ways to die on a motorcycle.

  • The Business Second™. For the second day in a row, warehouses!

  • Legal nerdy stuff: More proof that the prosecutor in the "Young Thug" trial in Atlanta has no idea what she is doing.  The trial is in its 140th day.

  • Random photo from Denver Broncos game last weekend.

  • It's Texas/OU week which normally makes me excited, but I fear NIL and the Transfer Portal has now even ruined that for me.

Random Tuesday Morning Thoughts

I had forgotten how we went all Ebola crazy around here.

  • This video was released yesterday. Quick hits: (1) I think there's some medication involved instead of "just alcohol" - he's really out of it, (2) he was treated much better than your average Joe during the traffic stop especially when the arresting officer quickly tells him, "We'll get through this", and  (3) The arrest on video was just for Public Intoxication and not DWI. I'm guessing that the higher ups later said, "There's no way we can get away with just that."

  • That little blurb I had yesterday about the rapid increase of Hurricane Milton turned out to be exactly right. That thing got big in a hurry. But it actually has decreased this morning to a Category 4 while the "eye re-forms."

    • Not mincing words here:
  • "Aircraft registration documents indicate the plane is a 59-year-old Champion 7EC."

  • He was at his own birthday celebration.  Story

  • A  "safety team member" of a church to our north made up a story about a potential threat from a man "wearing a full turban", fired his gun, and then called police so he could be considered a hero.

  • This happened a week ago but only today made its way to the front page of the Wichita Falls paper. But get this: Not only was the trooper off-duty, but he just happened to collide with "an off-duty investigator for the Wichita County District Attorney's Office."

  • Politics:
    • She gets crazier and crazier

    • Trump smiling while posing yesterday as he held a photo of a kidnapped victim during a remembrance ceremony regarding October 7th in Israel.

    • Kamala Harris did a 60 Minutes interview last night but the show's opening explained that Trump had accepted their invitation but then backed out. And they kept the receipts. Today, Harris  is in New York and will be on ABC’s “The View,” SiriusXM’s “The Howard Stern Show” and CBS’s “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.”

  • Not to get all morbid on you, but a better quality of the  video of the judge shooting in Kentucky was released over the weekend.

  • The Business Second™. The return of warehouses as a big one built just last year in western Fort Worth off 820 just got snatched up by Google.

  • Criminal Law exam from Harvard in 1871.  Questions 6 and 7 are wild.

  • They still haven't caught Seth Altman -- the guy who was the subject of the the 5:00 a.m. Blue Alert last week.

Random Monday Morning Thoughts

I was complaining about the heat 10 years ago, too.

  • He didn't need this.

    • Flashback: He's had so much trouble before that he was even a redemption story on HBO's Real Sports as he was coming back from a prison stint

  • Here we go again.  It hit a Category 4 moments ago.

    • This got my attention this morning, but I honestly have no idea if is is true.

  • It is the one year anniversary of Hamas attack on Israel -- which doesn't excuse everything that Israel has done in response.

  • The Dallas Morning News says Wise County is screwed with Andy Hopper set to represent us.

  • Trump went back to Butler, Pennsylvania on Saturday and in between lying about the election, the federal response to Helene, and saying that any member of the audience would get hurt if they admit to voting for Kamala Harris, we were provided with some great images of Elon Musk.

  • Man, there is so much of it that even the local paper ran a front page story trying to fight it.

  • I think these domestic abuse campaigns are nothing more than an excuse for one elected official  to promote another elected official. Here it's the Republican DA promoting the Republican County Judge. That former Tarrant County DA use to do it with "Not In My County" signs.

  • Look out, it's the First Monday in October so they are back in session.

  • The second most amazing thing about Vanderbilt's upset win over Alabama is that seconds after the gun sounded, they played Nick Saban's comments of “The only place that’s not hard to play in the SEC is Vanderbilt.” Video.

  • It is the last day to register to vote in Texas.
