Random Wednesday Morning Thoughts




Although news of Ravens player Ray Rice assaulting a woman had come out weeks earlier, it was this week that we learned of, and saw - thanks to TMZ,  the actual shocking video of the incident in the elevator and that the NFL actually had possessed the video all along. I didn't think Roger Goodell would survive that scandal. I was wrong. 

  • The debate:
    • Trump gave us what might go down as the weirdest moment in debate history: "In Springfield, they are eating the dogs -- the people that came in. They are eating the cats. They are eating, they are eating pets." And the way he said it made it golden. Video.  When he was fact checked on that hoax, he defended the claim with, "People on television are saying their dogs were eaten."

    • His lack of preparation was on full display last night. He thinks he can just "wing it", and he just can't. She baited him time and time again, and fell for it every time. 
    • The Trump MAGA extremists were mad at the the ABC moderators for fact checking Trump. They could have done it 100 times, but they did it only three times: Dog eating (a lie), that abortions are occurring after birth (a lie), and that he won the election (a lie.)  In full authoritarian mode this morning, he said that ABC "ought to have their license taken away."
    • Other than denying the election results, Trump also refused to condemn the January 6th insurrectionists, refused to say he wants Ukraine to win the war with Russian, defended his call to execute the innocent Central Park Five, and refused to acknowledge his "good people on both sides" Charlottesville comment saying it had been "debunked by Sean Hannity, Lauren Ingraham, Jesse [Waters]." Other that that, he did great. 
    • As to whether he has finally come up with plan to replace Obamacare which he has been promising for years, he said. "I have concepts of a plan."  Video. I may put that on a throw pillow.

    • On denying Kamala's blackness:  "I read where she was not black, that she put out [there]. I'll say that. And then I read that she was black. That's OK. Either one was OK. That's up to her." Video.
  • Taylor Swift activated her army after the debate with an official endorsement of Kamala Harris and signing it as "Childless Cat Lady."

  • Someone had a better night last night: An $800 million lottery ticket was sold in Sugarland, Texas.

Random Tuesday Morning Thoughts




This remains one one of the weirdest cases out of the Wise County Sheriff's Office.

  • A police chase of a stolen daycare van isn't something you see every day. Video.


  • Nice pay check for being forced out of your government job in Wichita Falls.


  • I had a huge question form over my head yesterday when I kept seeing various right wing posts about cats being eaten by immigrants in Ohio.  It didn't take long to track down.   It's another Internet hoax that took on a life of it's own. Most of it appears to have originated from a story last month which had nothing to do with immigrants. 




    • It's painful how they either just knowingly spread lies or are just the most gullible people in the world. But, either way, a claim of immigrants eating cats has a nice racist ring to it that they simply refused to pass up. 


  • Video here.  There is no situation which leads to unnecessary police-citizen escalations than not complying within micro-seconds of a demand from an officer to get out of your car. It was the origin of the Sandra Bland story a few years back.   

  • At 8:00 p.m. tonight. 


  • One of the most sensational cases in America will have to wait a little longer. 

  • It's been a long time coming, but the police raid based upon lies that lead to the death of an innocent couple in Houston is finally going to trail. 


  • A work of art is on the cover of The Atlantic. 

  • Free gift link from the Washington Post about a kid out of Stephenville. You cannot let your kid drop out of school and let him lock himself into his room with unfettered Internet access. It is a recipe for disaster. But they just slapped an 80 year prison sentence on a 15 year old. 


  • I don't really follow Texas high school football that closely, but I like looking at "How The Top 10 Fared" on Saturday morning which lists the results of the games involving the current top ten ranked teams from all the divisions. It looks like the normally pretty accurate writers have misjudged some of the teams in one of the lowest division in Texas:

  • My Longhorn friends have asked me if I have paid attention to the "The Evil Empire" through the first two games. Why, yes, yes I have. If they don't win the National Championship and walk away with the Heisman Trophy then I hereby proclaim the season to be a complete failure. High Orangeblood expectations on the Forty Acres makes for the best college football season.

Random Monday Morning Thoughts




Ten years ago, Tony Romo threw three interceptions in an opening day loss.

  • This was the driver who crashed into a home in White Settlement killing a high school girl.  His blood alcohol concentration was barely over the legal limit (0.085) so his criminal case, while challenging, was certainly not a lost cause.


  • Story.


  • We had an escape and capture with barely any news coverage of it. 


  • When you are too big of a fascist for Dick Cheney, then you have gone full fascist.

     

  • Neo-Nazis were on the Granbury town square this weekend. 

  • The party of "small government" continues to confuse me.

  • Random weird story.


  • Trump craziness over the weekend:
    • On Friday, he decided to oddly rant about, and call attention to,  the E. Jean Carroll verdict where he was found liable for sexually assaulting her. I don't know which was my favorite part: (1) being flanked by his lawyers while he said he was “disappointed in my legal talent to he honest with you” (video), or (2) him telling a story of unnamed woman who said he had sexually assaulted her on a plane -- saying he didn't do it because "she was not the chosen one." (video.)

    • On preparing for concentration camps and rounding up illegal immigrants: "Getting them out will be a bloody story." Video.
    • Weird post.

    • Weird NFL post (and proof he hasn't watched an NFL game in years.) 

    • He spent multiple posts claiming the upcoming election will be stolen and threatening to jail "donors" to Kamala Harris.


    • He made reference to Hannibal Lector again. Video.
  • Ted Cruz showed up to watch the final of the U.S. Open and the American lost. The Ted Cruz Curse continues. 

  • Let her out.  It was a 10 year sentence and she is "eligible" for parole after serving 1/2 of that sentence.

  • Barely makes headlines: A guy open fires from "three different perches" alongside a Kentucky highway on Saturday night and seriously injured five. He's on the run.
