Random Wednesday Morning Thoughts




This wreck shut down southbound 287 in Decatur and traffic had to be routed down 730 to Boyd then back up 114 to Rhome. And, as a result, 730 turned into bumper to bumper traffic for hours (screenshot). 

  • This is weird. It was at 12:30 p.m. at an intersection, and the deputy was in his personal vehicle and not in uniform.


    • And the suspect's escape plan was not well thought out. 

  • This event from 2022 was weird and, after this story, doesn't get any clearer. 


  • It's not major news, but the local network affiliates have been running this story of a party being broken up in Dallas.  "A neighbor recorded the home on Ivanhoe Lane after police arrived near 10:40 p.m. The video shows a seemingly endless stream of people leaving."  And 
    endless stream" is exactly the way to describe it. That was a ton of kids!

  • Remember this about the swing states: The easiest way for Trump to win is Pennsylvania + Georgia + North Carolina (NC not shown but leans heavily to Trump). The easiest way for Harris to win is Pennsylvania + Wisconsin + Michigan. Those combos would guarantee a win for either regardless of what happens in Nevada and Arizona -- assuming we don't have some unexpected safe state for either flip. 

  • I know this Texas Monthly writer is (unsurprisingly) not a a Liberally Lean reader because otherwise he would have reworked that headline. 


    • And you, dear readers, were definitely aware of this:

  • Should have put this in my wrecks bullet point list from a day or so ago.

  • Is there  somewhere I can bet money on the failure of this thing?


  • Legal (and fashion) stuff: Yesterday, Texas Supreme Court Chief Justice Nathan Hecht helped swear in new clerks for this term while wearing ill-fitting and cheap pants.  He makes $204,600 a year, so you'd think he would invest in a couple of suits. 

  • Extremely legal nerdy stuff: A car's search based upon an "inventory search" was invalidated yesterday by a court of appeals. And I think the same could be said of almost every inventory search I see -- although normally the search can be justified by some alternative theory.

Washington's written statement said the resignation was not baseball related and added, “I deeply regret that I’ve let down the Rangers organization and our great fans. Two weeks later he would say it was because of an extra-martial affair.

  • I'm not sure why Dallas PD blurs out the body during the gun fire. Just release two versions so the media will have one for their general broadcast. Video.


  • The bad wrecks in DFW just kept coming yesterday. No fatalities in these, however.
  • The predictions for a big hurricane season have petered out. 

  • Today in "Elon Musk Is A Nutcase":
    • He actually did this yesterday. 

    • He's mad at Brazil, but I'm not exactly sure who he thinks will be seizing government assets for him. 

    • He's doing great. Here's an article published yesterday.

  • Let's tap the brakes here a little bit. 

  • Every year there is a crazy story about Burning Man. 

  • Random article I read yesterday. (Gift link.)

  • The Wise County Messenger reports that Tanner Horner has filed a motion for Change of Venue in his capital murder case of Athena Strand. The next hearing date in court is set for September 16th. There is no trial date.

Random Monday Morning Thoughts




    And as I said then, that's a heck of a picture which was floating around that day. 

  • It's Labor Day, everything is closed, there is no Messenger Update, but here I am because: THWMISB™
  • The death toll from last Wednesday's wreck near Alvord has risen to five after another person passed away at the hospital on Saturday. 

    • And there was a very bad wreck in Anna on Friday killing four.

    • The rest of the country was doing much better. And this bus was headed to Dallas.

  • This is a wonky story that went down at 4:00 a.m. yesterday morning.  "Officers were called to Greenbriar Drive around 4 a.m. on Sunday for a man who was knocking on random doors and trespassing through front and back yards. Neighbors told FOX 4 they were worried because the man was holding a child and the two women he was with were holding large backpacks and appeared to be in a frantic state." But there is no real explanation or description of the movie-like moment where the guy was shot with a child in his arms.
     


  • Six hostages were found dead during another raid in Gaza.


    • Afterwards, protests in Israel erupted, not over Hamas, but over Netanyahu's obsession with killing everyone in Gaza instead of trying to bring the hostages home. 


  • I can't say I was familiar with her fine work, but isn't she interviewing Randolph Duke from Trading Places in this photo they ran with the news of her death?

  • Abilene Christian took the Texas Tech Red Raiders to overtime on Saturday and were rewarded by having their bus hit by a pickup driven by a teenager 


  • Trump:
    • He had a normal Labor Day weekend with his family I see. 

    • Trump attacked the press in his speech on Friday so a guy immediately tried to literally attack the press corp at the event.  Video.


    • And after coming out as pro-life last week, he posted that he was in favor of marijuana legalization this weekend.  He does realize he is a Republican, right?
  • College football lines for this weekend. 

  • Funny video of Ted Cruz on sideline at Aggie game. (And the Cruz curse continues.)
  • DirecTV and Disney (which includes ESPN and ABC) are in a fight causing a blackout. With how easy it is to switch immediately over to a different carrier (i.e. YouTube TV), I don't know how companies like DirecTV win these wars.
