Random Wednesday Morning Thoughts




A former Tarrant County judge was beaten to death in Lubbock and there was basically no media coverage of it (that's what I thought was bizarre.)  Here's an update on what happened published a few years later.

  • Northwest ISD became the newest district to ban cell phones. If you want to know the impetus behind this, I suspect its been this New York Times bestseller. It's an insightful look at how kids have moved from Play-based to a Phone-based childhood and the resulting consequences. Folks, we've got a problem. 

  • Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota may be a good VP good pick after all. And he may be the most common-man politician I've ever seen. He and Harris filled out an arena last night in Philadelphia.  


    • A lady on Twitter might be Nostradamus.

  • There was a lot going on in this wacky story and hard to explain.  There is a video of him jumping in a car and striking a lady near the end of all of it. 

  • "The Coast Guard was notified around 7 p.m. Saturday that a 28-foot aluminum vessel with eight people onboard was taking on water near Homer, Alaska." They were there for a wedding, and are from Troy, Texas near Temple.  I can't find why they were on the boat. 

  • This might be the dumbest lawsuit ever. So Elon Musk is mad at advertisers who don't want to buy space on what's becoming a Nazi website? Welcome to capitalism, pal. And notice he forum shopped to make 100% sure it ends up in the court of radical federal judge Reed O'Conner. 


    • And why in the world would advertisers leave him? Oh, yeah. Flashback: 

  • The Democratic DA in Houston endorsed Ted Cruz. How much will that help? She was the incumbent DA in the Democratic primary last spring and got crushed by getting only 25% of the vote. That's hard to do. 

  • Insurrection update. Baby steps.

  • Power move.


  • Former Dallas Cowboy Duane Thomas has died. I was going to post this yesterday because I saw what looked like to be his daughter's post on Modnay. But I swear yesterday morning, after a search on my part, that there wasn't one media outlet reporting it so I questioned whether it was true. His passing is making the mainstream news this morning. 

    • And if you want to understand how crazy the Duane Thomas situation was back in the day, watch this Verne Lundquist segment on WFAA when Verne was anchor. (Pick it up at the 53 second mark.)
  • I just casually keep the Olympics on in the background in the evening, but even I yelled at the screen during the ending of the 1500 meters final. Video.

Random Tuesday Morning Thoughts




The accident somehow gave rise to a civil suit filed in Decatur.  The criminal case was 
disposed of this way:


  • Breaking: We have a running mate decision from Kamala Harris. I'm a little surprised. 

  • The stock market going down was much ado about nothing.  After it, the S&P is still up 9.46% year-to-date and up 14.79% over the last 12 months.

  • Trump and the stock market:

  • The $345,250 Man has reinstated the one Texas Ranger who has been suspended since Uvalde -- suspended with pay by the way. DPS refuses to take any responsibility for that cluster.

  • Carroll ISD, which has been taken over by Patriot Mobile school board members, has named its new superintendent. 

    • Where have we heard of him before? Oh, yeah. He's from the crazy Granbury ISD:

  • No deaths, however.

  • Kind of legal nerdy stuff: They would have made this one a DWI case if it was just a regular Joe. But losing your job for a PI is probably an equivalent punishment. 


  • Insurrection news: 
    • One of these days, all of these people will pay for the Insurrection. I hope.  

    • This nutcase will get his toys back.  Specifically, his helmet and spear. And, legally, he should have them returned to him since the government didn't make forfeiting the property as part of his plea deal. 

      • Sidenote: He pled guilty and was sentenced to a 41 month sentence to the charge "of obstruction of an official proceeding, a charge which has since been largely invalidated by the Supreme Court in the cases of Capitol riot defendants."
  • The Business Second™. UTA has purchased 51 acres in Parker County (barely) to open up a satellite campus. Artist rendering:



  • Sports: It took an a while yesterday, but the silver medalist of the women's 5000 meters was disqualified -- and then reinstated -- in Paris. Here's slow motion video of the disputed contact. The eventual silver winner (Faith Kipyegon of Kenya on the inside) had been disqualified for obstructing Ethiopia’s Gudaf Tsegay (on the left and facing Kipyegon in this photo). 

  • Tim Walz is the first person on a Democratic presidential ticket not to have attended law school since Jimmy Carter in 1980. Good.

Random Monday Morning Thoughts




Jerry sure has dodged a bunch of scandals. 

  • What's weirder?: (1) RFK, Jr. picking up a dead bear cub in rural New York with intent to eat it but then dumping it hours later in Central Park?, or (2) Him creating a video with Roseanne Barr -- of all people -- and releasing it yesterday in order to admit the story before the New Yorker could publish it this week?


    • Holy cow, the New Yorker moments ago released the story, and they have a photo of RFK, Jr. posing with the dead cub at the time. 
    • The story of dead bear cub in Central Park was big news 10 years ago and CNN even covered it along with the New York Times. And you want to know something suspicious? The author of the NYT story at the time is RFK's first cousin: 
  • The false claim that the Algerian boxer, who was born a woman, was actual a trans person was embarrassing for all those making that assertion..  You just knew that two representatives from Wise County would look like bumpkins as they were the first to jump on the dog pile. 




  • Sheesh.

  • Trump had another stellar weekend:
    • He praised Putin. “By the way, I would like to congratulate Vladimir Putin for having made yet another great deal. Did you see the deal we made?”
    • Decided it would be a good idea to trash the very popular Republican Governor of Georgia while in a rally in Atlanta. That's one way to lose a swing state.

    • And he officially backed out of the debate with Kamala Harris on ABC.

  • Remember the plea deal for the 9/11 guys who have been held at Guantanamo Bay for decades without a trial? Well, never mind all of that. 

  • Remember Kyle Rittenhouse not supporting Trump? Never mind that, too.

  • Tarrant County legal stuff regarding a shooting in a parking lot after a Dallas Cowboys game years ago: The guy's first case ended up in a murder conviction but was reversed on appeal due to jury instruction errors. Upon retrial last week, the jury convicted him of the lesser included offense of manslaughter (reckless killing.)  The punishment phase has started and continues today. Prosecutors: Matt Rivers and Peter Gieseking. Defense lawyers: Pam Fernandez and Abe Factor.  The defendant testified in his own defense (smart move).
