Random Monday Morning Thoughts




Jerry sure has dodged a bunch of scandals. 

  • What's weirder?: (1) RFK, Jr. picking up a dead bear cub in rural New York with intent to eat it but then dumping it hours later in Central Park?, or (2) Him creating a video with Roseanne Barr -- of all people -- and releasing it yesterday in order to admit the story before the New Yorker could publish it this week?


    • Holy cow, the New Yorker moments ago released the story, and they have a photo of RFK, Jr. posing with the dead cub at the time. 
    • The story of dead bear cub in Central Park was big news 10 years ago and CNN even covered it along with the New York Times. And you want to know something suspicious? The author of the NYT story at the time is RFK's first cousin: 
  • The false claim that the Algerian boxer, who was born a woman, was actual a trans person was embarrassing for all those making that assertion..  You just knew that two representatives from Wise County would look like bumpkins as they were the first to jump on the dog pile. 




  • Sheesh.

  • Trump had another stellar weekend:
    • He praised Putin. “By the way, I would like to congratulate Vladimir Putin for having made yet another great deal. Did you see the deal we made?”
    • Decided it would be a good idea to trash the very popular Republican Governor of Georgia while in a rally in Atlanta. That's one way to lose a swing state.

    • And he officially backed out of the debate with Kamala Harris on ABC.

  • Remember the plea deal for the 9/11 guys who have been held at Guantanamo Bay for decades without a trial? Well, never mind all of that. 

  • Remember Kyle Rittenhouse not supporting Trump? Never mind that, too.

  • Tarrant County legal stuff regarding a shooting in a parking lot after a Dallas Cowboys game years ago: The guy's first case ended up in a murder conviction but was reversed on appeal due to jury instruction errors. Upon retrial last week, the jury convicted him of the lesser included offense of manslaughter (reckless killing.)  The punishment phase has started and continues today. Prosecutors: Matt Rivers and Peter Gieseking. Defense lawyers: Pam Fernandez and Abe Factor.  The defendant testified in his own defense (smart move).


  • Sports quick hits: 
    • Cool time lapsed photo of the 100 meter final yesterday.

    • That was quick. 


    • Why is Troy Aikman wearing red glass while inside and doing an ESPN interview?

    • Simone Biles spoiler alert for the balance beam this morning. 
  • The Business Second™. If you think Kamala Harris has anything to do with the stock marker pulling back Friday and this morning  - which is long overdue, you're delusional.

Random Friday Morning Thoughts




I'm not finding that any criminal case was ever filed in court against the guy. His bond was "released" on 12/17/15 which would happen if a decision was made to decline the case for prosecution or if no-billed by the grand jury. 

  • Gold.





  • Oh, my! Simone Biles from the top rope!

  • Bad lawyer. "The Texas attorney who was arrested on charges of attempting to buy the unborn children of Tarrant County inmates led an adoption agency whose accreditation for international services was canceled in 2019. Jody Hall, 68 — a Texas-based family and immigration attorney — was booked into" jail on a Tarrant County warrant.

  • Legally, this is pretty wild. The trial judge who just finished presiding over the case decided (PDF) that he shouldn't have let an expert witness on damages testify and decided that the jury's award was calculated because they relied soley on his testimony.  (Here's a great thread explaining it.)

  • This story dropped a few moments ago by the Washington Post. It's pretty wild.

  • MAGA darling Kyle Rittenhouse announces his presidential choice and it is not Trump.


  • My love of newspaper front pages takes another body blow.


  • The Business Second™. This confused because I figured Austin was booming. But it looks like Southwest is cutting into their business.

  • Time which has passed since the Wise County Sheriff's Office, despite having a full male DNA profile, has failed to solve the murder of Lauren Whitener in her home at Lake Bridgeport: 5 years and 28 days.

Random Thursday Morning Thoughts




This was nutty because a McDonald's in College Station was sued for wrongful death after a couple was attacked by third parties in its parking lot. But the woman (and maybe even the man) weren't killed there. Instead they were pronounced dead after a wreck that occurred while a friend was driving them to the hospital. The case was settled three years later for an undisclosed amount while on appeal.  

  • So Trump thought it would be a good idea to appear before a convention of black journalists?

    • It started off with a bang after a long initial question. Video.



    • The big news is that for some reason he decided to go with the "She ain't black" campaign platform. It took him 10 whole days to get there. Keep playing that card and see how it works out for you. Video.

    • He actually said that illegal immigrants were taking "black jobs" Again! And there of all places! Video.
    • He said he would pardon those who were convicted of beating peace officers on January 6th.  He's a full blown Insurrectionist.  This stuff drives me off a cliff more than anything else. 

    • So after it was over, how he think he did?

    • Kamala'a response: "The American people deserve better."

  • After decades in prison at Guantanamo without a trial, this guy finally pleads guilty. He avoids the death penalty with a life without parole deal. 


  • We've got a couple of people out of a Russian jail this morning. And this might be more than just these two -- possibly a "massive" prisoner swap is going on.

     

  • More fallout at Gateway church.

  • This occurred at the currency printing plant off of 287. She was a "disgruntled employee." 


  • High schools in Keller ISD generally let seniors paint their parking spots. They'll let this one stay. And there's really no reason they shouldn't. It would be a dicey constitutional proposition to limit anything a kid does based upon its content. Plus, this isn't even remotely objectionable.


  • Random weirdness: A post by Skip Bayless last night.

  • Olympic photo of the day. Turkey sent a 51 year old guy with no specialized lenses, eye cover or ear protection, and he got the silver medal

  • The Wise County jail has about 50 people more than normal this morning. It might be housing inmates from other counties for a fee.
