Random Wednesday Morning Thoughts






The prosecutor dropped the charges "in the interest of justice", and she has since 
been re-elected. She is still on the court. 

  • My Liberally Lean Weather Team woke up to report: A "cold" front moves through this afternoon around 2:30 p.m. It will be hotter at noon than it will be at 5:00 p.m.  And the next few days are an absolute gift for mid-July.

  • Republican National Convention highlights: 
    • Rudy took big a tumble while walking. Video. 

    • Rep. Matt Gaetz confronted former speaker Kevin McCarthy on the convention floor and almost got his butt kicked.  What he did (video) and how he was confronted (video).

    • The gangs all here in quite the photo.  Sarah Huckabee-Sanders, Trump blowing a kiss, the Jewish Space Laser lady in the background, and a giddy VP nominee. 

    • Trump has humiliated them all, but they all showed up and kissed the ring last night.

  • The gal that butchered the National Anthem before the home run derby offered up an explanation.

    • I'm not a conspiracy theory guy, but I want to see Trump's ear. Something definitely happened to it, and I'll take his word for it that a bullet pierced it, but I'm not ruling out that it got hurt on the ground after he ducked. 
  • That looks pretty nasty. 

  • This is one of the dumbest takes of the Dallas Morning News ever.  Expunction in Texas is ridiculoulsly hard to get and almost impossible to meet the prerequistites. 

  • Old school Ticket fans: Mike Rhyner and The Hammer, of the original Hardline, at the All-Star game last night. 

    • The day before. What hand symbol is he making?

  • The Supreme Court stopped a Texas execution yesterday evening 20 minutes before it was set to happen.

Random Tuesday Morning Thoughts




I'm telling you, keep an eye on the University of Colorado.

  • I'm not sure why he showed up last night at the Republican National Convention . . .     

    • You know what I would have done?: Keep him completely out of sight until the night he is to speak.  At his introduction, roll the footage of the assassination attempt with dramatic music and then freeze it at the moment he raises his fist. Cut the lights, start the fog machine, and roll him out. The crowd would go wild.  Remember the 2016 intro?:

    • But there is now a chance of serious infection of the ear because of who his doctor is: 

  • You don't have to post every thought you have.
     

  • Looks like he pled guilty on May 29th with the sentencing hearing occurring yesterday.  He had a long history including previous penitentiary trips.  (Cause no. CR23812)

  • The federal documents case against Trump is now dead because the most Trump friendly federal judge ever making the most Trump friendly ruling ever. 




    • Make no mistake about it: She got the idea from a throw-away, non-binding comment made by Justice Thomas in the Immunity case -- a case he should have recused himself from. 

  • Apparently we had a pretty bad rendition of the national anthem at the Home Run Derby last night in Arlington. Video. 

  • Isn't' the purpose of a book-in photo is to see the guy's face?

  • The widow of the guy killed at the Trump rally refused to take a call from the President. How weird is that?

  • A guy who used to hate Trump is now not only a sycophant but also Trump's new running mate. 


    • I'll say it again: The reason that Trump has to pick a new VP is because his old one refused to be part of a coup to overthrow the government of the United States. That problem has now been fixed.

  • "A 23-year-old woman and her 52-year-old father, both of Green Bay, Wisconsin, were found dead at Canyonlands National Park on the afternoon of Friday, July 12, the National Park Service said in a news release."  That's a 10 mile loop and it looks easy to get lost.



  • Legal stuff: This ruling is complicated, but what got my attention was the comment by the civil defense lawyer who got the case reversed.




  • The Business Second™:  Mr. Gatti's? Big thumbs up. But the last time I went to one was decades ago in Denton.

  • After posting every thought I have every day, I just realized an above bullet point says, "You don't have to post every thought you have."

Random Monday Morning Thoughts




Remember Russia shooting down a commercial airliner over part of the Ukraine they had gained control over?

  • Well, that was a heck of a Saturday.


    • A great series of photos of the bullet flying by which nicked Trump. And the last photo actually shows the bullet piercing the air. Here's the New York Times article about it.


    • They mystery of a 20 year old kid. 



    • I agree with everyone else: How in the world did he get in such a good position to shoot? Two good images:


    • Probably the most talked about video is this one which appears to show a Secret Service sniper looking in the direct of the shooter seconds before the shooting. Trump is the foreground to the right. 

    • The guy in the crowd who died, and his final social media post. 


    • Trump's been pretty lowkey since shooting which is understandable because that would certainly rock you.  But I'm really surprised he has tweeted out a picture of his ear. If it was hit --- he says it was and the photos taken seconds after the incident seem to show it -- I would think he'd be promoting it. 

    • The New York Times had already prepared its big opinion piece on Saturday to reject Trump's bid to become president.  It ran as planned. And there's really no reason why the shooting should have changed that.

    • Lot's of odd God posts in the wake of the shooting -- most of which make no theological sense. 
      • So what about the guy in the audience who was killed?

      • What about Uvalde? Were those kids condemned? 

  • In other news, it's been quite the death spree over the last few days. Following on the heels of Shelley Duvall on Thursday, this weekend we lost Dr. Ruth Westheimer, Richard Simmons, and Shannon Doherty.

  • The Alec Baldwin trial got buried in the news after Saturday's news. On Friday, we had the  shockingly abrupt end to the trial as the the judge dismissed the case with prejudice because the State withheld evidence. Once it became clear this was going to happen, one special prosecutor  - the one who gave the opening statement --  up and quit right after the lunch break! The other decided to took the stand to try to explain her actions (and implicitly throw the cops under the bus.) What a disastrous end to a a case which was never going to be won anyway.

  • I'll say this, Trump being able to stop and play to the crowd just moments after seeing his life pass before his eyes is really something. I think 99.9% of us would been shell-shocked and let the Secret Service rush us to wherever they wanted to take us.
