Random Wednesday Morning Thoughts




Still funny. And I'll be dang if he didn't end up being right about Baylor winning the Big 12. I presume he was also right about said hypothetical hooker. 

  • Oh, man. I crane caught fire this morning in Hudson Yards/Hell's Kitchen area in Manhattan and fell a long way. And a video caught it when it happened. Four injuries reported so far. 

  • The Federal Reserve is expected to announce today yet another interest rate increase. Honestly, I'm not sure I understand it at this point. You can say it has worked to curtail inflation, but wouldn't you start backing off by now? 

  • I was looking at this story to see if genealogical DNA was involved but . . . 


    • . . . the following caught me off guard a bit. Normally police agencies are a little more reserved with their language before someone has been actually convicted. 

  • This is the same scheme which Steve Bannon was convicted of but who was quickly pardoned by Trump before he left office.  They collected millions from people who wanted to donate to privately building The Wall and then pocketed the money. This guy got 63 months yesterday.


  • She should have been reprimanded. She was also unnecessarily dramatic and harsh towards the defense the entire trial. 


  • Things are going great for him.

  • Aggieland is having lots of political problems lately.


  • Oh no! Not at Camp LeJeune!  The Plaintiffs' bar will turn this in to a mass class action tort by week's end. (And by that I mean no offense.)

  • I was curious about whether the headline was really a bit dramatic, but there really was a late evening court stipulation (here) in the defamation trial against Rudy.  The only thing left to determine is damages.


  • My Bridgeport math tells me that averages out to $52.5 million a year.


  • Legal-in-the-weeds stuff: Hunter Biden's law firm might be in trouble for contacting the court and making a misrepresentation. Or not. Here's the judge's order and law firm's response. I think they'll be OK.

Random Tuesday Morning Thoughts




The month long mystery of who killed 6 year old Alanna Gallagher in Saginaw was solved with an arrest, and then we learned of a Decatur connection.

  • That sentence is probably fair.  He'll have to serve at least half of the 12 years before becoming eligible for parole. (Side note: The prosecutor actually asking for the maximum of life in prison from the jury was dumb. No one died. They lost all credibility when they did that.)


  • Israel moves very close to a Netanyahu headed autocracy as it throws aside the concept of having a judiciary being a check and balance.  Pay attention. We could be headed that way here.



    • The leading Israeli newspapers went with a dark front page to represent "democracy going dark."

  • The Justice Department followed through on its warning that it would sue Texas over the floating buoys.  There sure is a lot of time and expense going to be wasted on 1,000 feet of ineffective floating balls that cost at least $1 million in taxpayer money.


  • "Band camp" this time of year in Wise County seems like it would be a beating. You even use pretend instruments in the heat on the pavement to get started.  

  • Not enough.

  • This is a weird story.  From what I can gather from it, the guy is arrested for DWI and a sample of his blood was taken.  Within 24 hours, the officer had left the blood in a breakroom refrigerator where other officers saw it.  Because of that, a supervisor made the decision to immediately kill the case, and have the defendant released from jail.  Trust me, cops don't work that quickly to kill a case just because evidence has been handled questionably.
    The headline is wrong. He was arrested.

  • I could have sworn that within the last year I've seen another video of a Texas Sheriff starring in, and producing and uploading, his own movie as he berates someone as he fires them -- someone who he hired at basically minimum wage. Story.


  • The Dallas Morning News has compiled a list of its most profitable companies in DFW. All those profit numbers are staggeringly high, but Exxon's is eye-popping. You guys remember those high gas prices caused by "inflation"? 

  • Whatever happened to the silly Michael Irvin defamation lawsuit against the Marriott worker?

Random Monday Morning Thoughts





Still one of the most shocking local celebrity deaths ever. 

  • But we had a death closer to home. Former Wise County deputy David Bosecker was shot and killed while responding to a domestic disturbance as a deputy in Eastland County. Awful. 


  • Probably not many of you are following the trial of the Mansfield kid who was just convicted for Attempted Capital Murder in Tarrant County, but here's an under-reportd tidbit.  Self-defense (which the judge didn't allow the jury to consider) was the the defense's trial strategy because of a fight the defendant and the victim got into before the shooting. But look at this: 

  • Texas will lose this. It will be a fitting end to a dumb idea. 


  • The bird symbol has suddenly disappeared from Twitter and replaced with an "X."  The main value of Twitter was it name and symbol recognition. And now Elon Musk as destroyed that, too. 




    • He's had a weird obsession with X. He wanted to rebrand PayPal to "X" before they kicked him out.  

  • Trouble in Aggieland.

  • This went down late Friday. The Supreme Court told Alabama legislature in a big ruling on June 7th that they had to redraw their gerrymandered lines. In response, Alabama just said no.  It's 1960s George Wallace all over again. 

  • Here's a video of a dog released on an unarmed black guy in Ohio with his hands up while a fellow trooper is yelling "Don't release the dog." 


  • I almost find it bizarre that every single person who went to see either movie just raved about how great it was. Not even the slightest bit of criticism by anyone.

    • Well, the above doesn't apply to the Ultra-MAGA Extremists who complain about it being "woke" (ugh.) These people are not well. (Yes, this is real.)
