Random Monday Morning Thoughts

You might have to do a double take on this one. That is a picture of the aftermath of a gunfight that took place on highway 380 outside right outside the Wise County Sheriff's Office. And, yes, that is the Denver Post. We went national. Here's our Sheriff's press release on the incident.  It appears that the gunman had killed a pizza guy in Colorado, took his stuff to impersonate him, and then went to the home door of the Colorado Director of Prisons and killed him when he opened the door. He then drove to Texas, shot a Montague County deputy after a traffic stop, and then it all came to a head in Decatur. Wild.

    • Credit to Messenger Editor Austin Jackson for getting up in the middle of the night and snapping some fantastic photos.
  • Some kind of shooting happened outside of Arlington Lamar this morning which caused the school to go into lockdown. Update: The district says the shooting occurred outside of the school facility where two students were injured and are receiving medical care

  • Trump, out of nowhere, said he would be arrested on Tuesday because the Stormy Daniels payoff case,  and he immediately tried to rile up his crazy base for another insurrection.
    (From Saturday morning)
(Not real but an impressive fake)

    • All of this hubbud fires up his nutty base, but he continues to be a major problem for the normal Republicans.  Time and time again they have the chance to get rid of him but they have refused to do so: The "grab em by" moment, the first impeachment over Ukraine, after getting beat by Biden, January 6th and all that preceded it including the tampering in Georgia and the fake electors plot, the second impeachment, the "termination" of the Constitution post, the taking and hiding of documents at Mar-a-largo, and many more.)
    • But remember kids, you too can become a victim if you have sex with a porn star while your third wife is pregnant and then buy her silence with $130,000 during a presidential campaign with campaign funds. None of us are safe.

    • Wise County's rep is a really, really strange guy. He is not a normal Republican in any sense of the word.

  • A candlelight vigil on Saturday night in Dallas, in front of a store where a 19 year old was murdered the day before, erupted into its own violent scene. "Police said a white Chrysler was passing by the vigil and someone inside opened fire. People at the vigil returned fire at the car before it drove off. [OH, MY!] Four people were shot and taken to hospitals. Police said they were in stable condition. One of the victims is the mother of the teenager who was shot and killed Friday."

  • Another sentence last week from the Trump Insurrection. Not enough.

  • Putin visited Mariupol. one of his crime scenes, over the weekend.

  • The Liberally Lean leaderboard.

  • TCU lost last night as did as Baylor. But pretend you are gambler and have bet for or against TCU who was -4.5  underdog. TCU trailed by 6 with 7/10ths of a second left and were throwing the ball in at the other end of the floor. There's no time for anything to happen assuming that they were even going to make an effort, right? Video.

  • This Tarrant County DA investigator gets a full page photo as he complains about the lack of laws for the crime of Munchausen syndrome by proxy. The best I can tell from the story, the D.A.'s office in 11 out of 11 for the prosecution of those very unusual crimes.

It's Friday - Let's Get Out of Here

Random Friday Morning Thoughts

Spoiler alert: The Bridgeport hospital did not stay open.

  • It's St. Patrick's day. And it is still the greatest newscast of all time.

  • Compare and contrast these two stories coming out on the same day in Wichita Falls about a high profile capital murder case that just wrapped up.
    • Story One: Taxpayer's paid a bunch to convict defendant who had huge financial resources.

    • Story two:

  • 14 and 45

  • Fox News is still peddling this silliness to its evening audience.

  • Respect For the Second Amendment Act? Are we going to have to bow down before it now? How about the kids in Uvalde saying a pledge of allegiance to it?  Hey, a law that forces us to have respect for any subject is baloney.

  • This is kind of a weird thing to do. He couldn't sell it at a listing of $8.5 million so he is going the auction route with a starting bid of $2.5 million.  Then again, who can argue with a man who ran RadioShack. The story says he retired in 2015 which, I determined, is the same year the company declared bankruptcy. (The property is in the Tanglewood area near TCU.)

  • Trump is going very 1930s Germany by releasing a dark video where he said Russia is not our greatest threat but that America ("ourselves") is as he blamed the border (Hispanics), collapse of the "nuclear family" (guess who), "rogue" big cities (name your minority) and those who would make us a "Godless nation worshiping at the alter of race, gender, and environment." It's all coded language.

  • You don't hear much about it, but the federal seditious conspiracy trial in D.C. against the Proud Boys is now completing week ten. And the prosecution hasn't rested yet.
  • I keep coming back to the highlighted portion of this story.  But here's the video of the aggressive monkey and, I promise you, it's worth watching just to hear the country guy say, "What's a monkey doing in Oklahoma!!!"

  • Finally an unflattering article on Troy Aikman. I bet he's a royal prima donna. Not to mention not having a lick of a sense of humor.

  • Liberally Lean Tourney Day 1.

  • Time which has passed since the Wise County Sheriff's Office, despite having a full male DNA profile, has failed to solve the murder of Lauren Whitener in her home at Lake Bridgeport: 3 years, 256 days.

Random Thursday Morning Thoughts

That was from my week in Destin in 2013. I think I'd be a good travel blogger for the common man.

  • Final chance to sign up for the Liberally Lean Pick-Em Tourney. Games begin this morning.

  • Footage has been released this morning of the Russian plane dumping fuel on an American drone before clipping it.

  • From the Liberally Lean Weather Center: (1) The best chance of storms today in Wise County is around 3:00 p.m. but this will be hit and miss. (2) What is for certain is the cold front hitting at 5:30 with temperatures dipping to 36 degrees tomorrow morning with a high of 51 on Friday.
  • The installation of underground fiber cables in Bridgeport has been like a bull in a china shop.

  • This guy who was booked in yesterday at the Wise County Jail has some all-time aliases.

  • Trump leads DeSantis in a brand new Quinnipiac poll of Republicans for their choice in the primaries:

  • Here we go again at Fort Hood with yet another death. The army is being tight lipped about the investigation.

  • Fort Worth Weekly is pulling no punches in a juicy story about a seedy relationship inside the far right wing cell phone company Patriot Mobile which is really a PAC.

  • This story came out last night. Heck, the whole team was almost there.

  • "The son of former NHL player and interim Philadelphia Flyers GM Daniel Briere is accused of pushing an unoccupied wheelchair down the stairs at a bar in a disturbing surveillance video." The video really does show what a jerk move this was. He's a hockey star in his own right at Mercyhurst College.

  • It was very satisfying when this guy from Longview got tazed. Few people have ever deserved it more than him. Video. (Language warning.)

  • Your reminder that on 9/4/19 I predicted Zeke Elliott would be cut this off seasonThe fill-in hosts on the Ticket this morning said he probably "had two or three more years left." You know, I'm not sure he'll get any job at all.  Here are the all-time Cowboys rushing leaders:

    • G = Games played in. Att = Rushing attempts. AV=Some confusing analytical "value" rating.
  • Very random legal stuff about tort reform: A $50,000,000 punitive damage award in Georgia was reduced by the Georgia Supreme Court to $250,000 yesterday. If you are anti-tort reform, it could be a pretty good case to use as an example.
