Random Wednesday Morning Thoughts




The marriage between Courtney Stodden and Doug Hutchison officially lasted from May 20, 2011 until March 2020 -- although they separated in 2017. 

  • The Department of Justice filed its response to Trump's request for a "special master" to inspect the documents taken from Mar-a-Lago. Not only does this get worse for Trump, we've now got a photo of some of the items recovered -- all of which are clearly marked. 
    There are people in prison for far less

    He was trying to hide them

    They lied about previously turning them all over

  • The last leader of the Soviet Union, Mikhail Gorbachev, has died.  A whole lot has changed.

  • There was a crazy police chase with bullets flying which ended up at crash at 377 and Loop 820 in Haltom City. But I did notice how it all got started because I've been talking about this for years: "Police said they received an alert from their Flock license plate cameras that they detected the stolen car."

  • Fort Worth ISD decided on a new superintendent last night. I find it a little strange that she just started at Midland ISD in February of 2021 and 30 days ago signed a new three year contract with them which was to pay her $310,000 annually. (Midland ISD posted the contract online.)

  • Compare and contrast:
    • President Biden was spot on yesterday.

    • Meanwhile, Trump was on an unhinged social media storm and riling up the nutty Q-Anon crowd by reposting them. Yep, he's now expressly recruiting the QAnon crowd in plain sight. He does everything in plain sight. 

    • And the Q-Anon crowd took notice.   

  • Hey, WCSO Information Services: Your publicly available PDF of the jail roster hasn't been updated in 24 hours. 
  • Hide your children!

  • Bridgeport has installed wind guards at its stadium which looks really nice. But I think "Bridgeport Sissies" in big lettering directly behind the home bench might cause some confusion for the uninitiated visitor crowd. (I'm on record of being a big fan of the girls' nickname by the way.)

  • If you work for Travis County, you'll get at least $20 an hour. 

  • This is really old news but it's showing up again. One of the former prosecutors says that the outgoing DA has a personal beef with her. I think she might be right. It is very un-Sharen Wilson like to go against a prosecutor and side with a man who will forever be convicted of capital murder. 

  • I've got friends in Abilene and this case is the talk of the town. A murder of a real estate agent occurred in 2016. The arrest of his brother-in-law wasn't made until 2020. It's all circumstantial.

Random Tuesday Morning Thoughts




Yet another case lost to our poor memories  -- at least mine. Kevin Safford received 4 years probation and $5,000 fine.  I don't think he ever appealed. 

  • I don't want to call myself a legal genius, but what should I wear to the inevitable Hall of Fame call I'm going to get?

  • The Rhome mayor walked out of a council meeting late last week and then the cops had to escort out audience members. "Josh wants to be mayor real bad, so I'm gonna let him." The video is cued up here. 

    • Side note: That's officer Rex Richie who can be seen acting calmly in the video. I incorrectly referred to him last week as "former Rhome police officer" when mentioning the Royce Wood criminal case where Richie was shot in the leg. I was thinking of Brody Brown who was with Richie at the time of the shooting. My bad. 
  • An arrest of a lawyer in Archer County led to a mistrial in Montague County:


    • Side note: Did the DA up there change her name from Casey Polhemus to Casey Hall? I missed that. Marriage? Divorce? 
  • Last night, the Southlake Carroll ISD board (brought to you by Patriot Mobile) clearly violated state law when they rejected donated signs. The statute says the school "must display" them.

     

  • We had some fun couples at the U.S. Open last night to watch Serena Williams farewell tour.

  • A new poll of past Trump voters. Nuts. And I bet an equal number of Trump voters now support the January 6th Insurrection:

  • Speaking of, we finally had a decent prison sentence of a Trump Insurrectionists yesterday.

  • You can't complain when people you don't like also exercise their Texas right to open carry scary looking weapons. 

  • I meant to post this yesterday. Why does Ted Cruz have to be such a miserable human being? Video. 

  • A new Gallup poll shows support of labor unions has risen to 71%. That's up 23 points since 2010. That's amazing. And a big deal.

Random Monday Morning Thoughts




I still think about how weird Clint Eastwood and the empty chair bit was at the Republican Convention. 

  • That was a wild Sunday:
    • A drive by shooting in North Forth Worth (very close to Saginaw) left two kids dead and baby hurt. The house wasn't far off the what we refer to as the Saginaw Cutoff.


    • I-35 northbound near downtown Fort Worth was shutdown a short time later because of police chase and the police shooting of a man. A female in the car was also killed but police say she was killed by that man. (This video taken by someone who was able to pass way too close to the car -- by going 10 mph in the adjacent express lane -- is pretty crazy.)

      Somehow there are two people already dead in this car.

    • And it didn't involve a crime, but about the same time we had a dramatic shot of an 18 wheeler burning in Roanoke on 114.

  • On Saturday, there was a wrong way driver on 360 in Arlington in the middle of the afternoon.  After watching the video of it happen, tell me how there were only "two calls" about it to police. 


  • If this headline of a cheerleader at Prosper High School being injured seems familiar . . . 

    • . . . it should because the exact same thing happened one year ago. The girl in the wheelchair below, who showed up for the prayer vigil this weekend, was paralyzed in 2021 because of a cheerleading accident while a student at the same school. Anyone think there might be a problem here?

  • Houston did their part for crime early on Sunday when a guy who had been evicted set fire to his complex and then shot three dead as they fled. Two other people were hit but survived.


  • The redacted Trump affidavit was released on Friday. It told us some things but not much. He may never get indicted for anything, being he's flying close to the sun on this one. 


  • We've got a new crazy Herschel Walker quote. This one is mind-blowingly confusing.

  • The President made headlines on Friday for using the semi F word.


    • The again, summarily removing duly elected officials is a little semi-fascist. 

       

    • As is Lindsay Graham urging riots when his leader breaks the law and authorities consider holding him responsible. From yesterday: 

  • Random football nugget from the first weekend of college football, and Nebraska's loss of the biggest game of the weekend. 

  • Decatur's season did not start of well.

  • Why exactly are we preparing to go back to the moon? (The unmanned launch this morning will circle the Earth a bunch of times and return in 42 days. But that launch has been delayed and the window closes at 9:33 a.m. CST. Edit: It's been called off. )
