Random Tuesday Morning Thoughts




I posted this pic along with this quote from an AP story: "The Texas Education Agency reports Hispanic students this school year account for 50.2 percent of the state’s 4.9 million children enrolled in public schools, including pre-kindergarten and early childhood education."

I was curious what that number was today. Turns out, the percentage is now up to only 52.7% of 5.5 million children in school. That's surprising to me. 

  • Ten dead in a mass shooting in Boulder, Colorado. That's the second mass shooting in a week. Yes, America is getting back to normal. 

    • Here's the most shocking video of the incident which was posted to Twitter within minutes of it happening. 

    • QAnon showed up in the replies on Twitter immediately after the above video was posted. I'm telling you, these guys are all around you. 


    • Police were being ridiculously tight-lipped after the shooting. Everyone is speculating that this guy in handcuffs was the shooter but the cops wouldn't come out an say it. No word if he was motivated by "low blood sugar" or if he was just having "a bad day." 

    • Colorado is an open carry state. 
    • CNN is reporting that the weapon was an "AR-15 style."  So the guy just legally walked into the grocery store carrying it for all to see. 
    • The crazy Colorado congressman offered her thoughts and prayers.

  • Crazy lawyer Sidney Powell has filed a Motion to Dismiss the defamation lawsuit filed by Dominion because, she says, no reasonable person thought her election fraud claims were a statement of fact. Really. She is saying you would have to be a moron to believe The Big Lie. (That's actually the Tucker Carlson defense.) 


  • I've found my favorite Insurrectionist. She was committing treason and adultery unbeknownst to her husband cop. Well, at least he didn't know about the adultery part. 

  • Meteorologist promoted a reader submitted "Kitler" photo and was then forced to apologize. Come on, that's funny.  

  • "Unaccompanied alien children" have, for years, been treated with unique care under U.S. law. I wouldn't go so far as to call it a loophole, but it's easier to stay in the country as a minor than an adult.  This isn't a new problem. 

  • Whoever is running Sen. Cornyn's Twitter account must hate him. "Humane treatment" is a bad thing?

  • Do you ever get the feeling that there's something going on that we don't know about? Here is a random bill I noticed which was just filed in the Texas legislature: 

  • Inside the board room of Krispy Kreme: "Anyone have an idea to get a person in a store which cost only a few measly pennies so they'll end up spending $10 while they are there, and then trick the entire national media into promoting it for us for free and make us look like we are thanking the public?" 

  • Liberally Lean leaderboard.  With my tricked up scoring system, I would have thought we would have wider margins than what we are seeing. But I think the big difference is that those who picked a handful of upsets are doing better than those with more correct picks but used favorites. From here on out the scoring gets pretty much back to normal. But you were rewarded for boldness in the first two rounds. 

  • Wise County Justice of the Peace Kim Redman's office is always incredibly responsive.

Random Monday Morning Thoughts





I posted this ten years ago simply because of the hypocrisy of a big time "drug prosecutor" in Las Vegas being arrested for dope.  I looked for an update, found one, and, man, it's a shocker. He lost his $118,000 a year job, and then received nine months jail sentence for only $40 worth of cocaine. He appealed the sentence but then fled to Mexico and taunted authorities with Facebook posts. He later returned to serve his sentence and was released after four months. He then killed himself.  

The War on Drugs continues. 

  • Be careful partying in Dallas:
    • A woman is dead in Uptown over night. She may have jumped on a car during "disturbance" and fell off. A white Camaro didn't stop.  

    • Early Saturday, a lady was killed at Pryme Bar which is on Technology Boulevard off I-35 (and near Cowboys Red River.) 


  • The White House fired five people for past marijuana use. That's dumb. 

  • Cops in Colorado pulled over a Chicago Cubs minor league pitcher driving a BMW on Wednesday before finding 21 pounds of suspected methamphetamine and 1.2 pounds of suspected oxycodone in his car.

  • Random FBI thought: It takes you this long to identify someone and you still can't do it?  

  • I ended up being in downtown Decatur on Friday evening. It was packed to the gills. (I'm not sure what "to the gills" actually means.) 
  • Hot court opinion that every criminal defense practitioner holds but is too scared to utter:

  • A prosecutor in Pennsylvania who made at least $125,435 a year has been demoted for having a side-hustle as a DoorDash delivery guy. Side note: What's up with these salaries for prosecutors?

  • I've spent a lot of time focusing on Frisco being a hotbed of White Christian Nationalism and now The Washington Post gives it a front page story this morning. Eighteen people from Collin County were charged in the Trump Insurrection of January 6th. 



  • Who at TxDOT greenlighted this ad campaign?

  • Random golf shot from the Honda Classic on Friday. Video. 

  • Here are the Liberally Lean Pick 'Em standings.  Some guy or girl named "Loyal ilk of BSG" (no relation) is in first place.

Random Friday Morning Thoughts




This referred to the death of Kasey McKenzie, 23, of Granbury in the parking lot of the Dallas strip club, Spearmint Rhino. Eric Brent Crutchfield, in a jacked up truck, simply didn't see her and ran over her.  He was on felony probation at the time of a steroids charge, and it was revoked which resulted in a 10 year sentence. (He received a 3 year sentence on the strip club case which ran concurrently.) McKenzie's family would eventually sue the club and win $10.5 million from a jury. Her Facebook page is still up. 

  • I'm finding this "10 years ago" bit to be pretty interesting. 
  • Well, marijuana has finally killed someone.  In all seriousness, this 26 year old guy was in jail for weed. We put a man in a cage for being in possession of a plant. And now he's dead. 


  • A Texas Republican talks about the joys of lynching yesterday. Video.

  • A new NFL TV deal was announced yesterday, and it is for $10.7 billion a year.  Yet owners have a self-imposed salary cap for the players.

  • Here's the video. It's pretty funny. 

  • Fort Worth police say this picture was left in a tip jar with "HELP HE has abducted me" written on the back.  It could just be a hoax by "friends" or enemies. Maybe not. But there are some weird replies to the post.

  • I thought the talk of "Who is going to replace Rush Limbaugh" was silly. Radio stations paid to air Rush's syndicated show. To just think that the show's owner could put someone else in as a host and radio stations would continue to shell out the same amount of cash for it was never going to happen.  Now Cumulus stations are proving this to be true as they have have given Don Bongino his own show and broadcasting it in the slots they use to pay Rush for. 

  • I got my Bill Gates Computer Chip Injection yesterday.

    • I think I'm now picking up HBO Max when I dream.
    • Seriously, the whole experience was really surreal. It just finally hits you hard that we are trying to vaccinate the entire U.S. population against a virus which has certainly killed someone you know. Sitting in a sea of cars, it had a very sci-fi/dystopian feel to it all. 
    • But the whole process couldn't have been smoother or easier.
  • I've said this before, and I've got more evidence to support it: Germania Insurance is fantastic to deal with.  Allstate, not so much. 
  • Very random Cowboys sports point: Only Noah Brown remains on the team from the 2017 draft. Never heard of him? He was actually on field for 228 plays last year. And the Cowboys just gave him a new one year contract.  Edit: A faithful reader corrects me and points out that Jourdan Lewis is still on the team.
