This Is Kind Of Hypnotic

I don't know what the back story is on this because I didn't read it, but the short video is funny. But I'm pretty sure I'm safe in saying that kangaroo could kill the guy if it wanted to.

Random Tuesday Morning Thoughts

  • Fort Worth PD has a new recruiting video where they use Star Wars characters. What are the chances they paid a licensing fee?
  • I know what that missing and now found California jogging mom story reminds me of: Gone Girl
  • I was talking to Lewisville police officer yesterday, and he told me they had removed the Intoxilyzer machine completely from the department. They now simply ask for blood, not breath, after a DWI arrest.  He thought there were two or three other DFW agencies which have done the same thing.
  • I almost got killed this morning by a ten inch thick metal pipe that fell off a trailer in front of me as I was driving down the highway. When I heard the pipe's multiple loud "clinks" as it bounced off the pavement like an onside kick, I knew it could get dicey. It missed me.
  • The popular vote is now in Clinton's favor by 2.6 million. That's a staggering number.
  • We had our first same-sex divorce is the district court in Wise County last week.
  • Al Gore was at Trump Tower yesterday to talk to Trump about climate change?
  • For 4 News had a horrible graphic snafu last night. They meant to say "deed":
  • The 9th Circuit has held that if the cops provoke a violent confrontation, and then deal with you violently, they can be held liable. And now the Supreme Court has agreed to hear that case.
  • Sinkhole in San Antonio yesterday:
  • Disturbing paid ad that showed up on my Twitter timeline. Good, lord.:
  • At least three different Ticket show hosts have awkwardy gone out of their way to mention they have seen Arrival. That's an embedded paid ad. Edit: At 12;22, Jake Kemp on The Ticket, who never goes to movie, reviews a movie he saw yesterday: Arrival.
  • Client to me as she signs a docket sheet in court the other day: "Oh, I'm sorry. I smeared your name." (I had signed it seconds before her.) Very funny court personnel who shall remain nameless: "That's not the first time someone's done that."
  • I feel horribly for Brian Loncar's family but what in the world was he driving a Rolls-Royce? Yeah, you are free to do whatever you want with your money, but what you do with it also tells us a lot about you. (Side note: Wasn't he in a pretty bad wreck in Uptown a few years back when he was driving one? I couldn't find anything on that after a quick look.)
  • That last sentence in the first item in the Update is shocking.

That's Some Serious Flames

They Handle Ice Like Texans

(I don't know who "Cedar Rapids Chiller" is but it's kind of a cool name.

Honorably?

He wants the free press to treat him "honorably"?  You're not king. You're not a czar.

A Reporter Went Into Overtime

The New York Times sent a reporter to Iraan to do a feature story on the football team and everything associated with it.  This weekend, the small bus carrying the cheerleaders and sponsors was involved in a wreck causing one fatality.

The story begins: "IRAAN, Tex. — This is not the story we intended to report, about a fatal bus crash and injured cheerleaders and ecstatic celebration whipsawed into gut-punching tragedy."

Is This The NFL or "Dance Moms"?

Random Monday Morning Thoughts

  • You might want to hold off on that Christmas shopping. Trump may provoke China into nuking us before then.
  • We've got a potential hung jury (a one person holdout) in the Walter Scott case. Incredible. Not only did the cop shoot him in the back which was captured on video, he tried to cover it up by planting evidence.
  • The epitome of a sorry prosecutor is this: Indicting cases you can't prove and then not being ready when it is your chance to prove it. And the case in particular I'm talking about is a 20 year old "cold case" where a guy was indicted for allegedly drowning his wife in a hot tub. Where has it happened?  Notorious Williamson County, Texas. (The county which gave us the Michael Morton disaster continues to embarrass those prosecutors who are honest, decent, and hard working.)
  • Do they teach typing in school? Mrs. LL thinks the answer is "no." Is that true? I find that crazy.
  • And Another - Plano
  • Sarah Palin on Trump's Carrier deal: "Republicans oppose this, remember? Instead, we support competition on a level playing field, remember? Because we know special interest crony capitalism is one big fail.”
  • There are some great and practical legal issues regarding the former NFL player killed in New Orleans in a rage road incident. The shooter was arrested and then released the next day. Can police "unarrest" someone after the fact -- even 24 hours later? Sure. It rarely happens but they can. And just when is someone "charged" with a crime? I have always taken the position its the moment an indictment has been handed down. Until then, a person has simply been the subject of an arrest.
  • Rave of Death: That Oakland fire death count is now up to 36.
  • Many people think there is something fishy about the pastor/naked wife photos/dealership case. I do, too. But in addition to the civil suit, the guy has been criminally charged. I would hope there was an adequate investigation. If there wasn't, we've got a heck of a story on our hands.
  • This Papini kidnapping case (the  jogging mom), however, is still very, very weird.  And conservative radio talk show host Mark Davis agrees.
  • Mrs. LL, due to an eye issue, wore an eye patch all weekend. Kinda hot. Not Kill Bill hot, but pretty hot

  • ESPN floated a rumor on Saturday that Art Briles was being considered for the University of Houston job. UH then issued a press release saying Briles was not being considered. When a school scrambles to tell the public you aren't a candidate, I'm not sure you are going to coach anywhere.
  • We've got a relatively new "smart TV' with Amazon and Netflix video packages. I become paralyzed by the options.
  • Troy Aikman's A Football Life was really, really good. But I can't believe more people aren't talking about the never before seen footage of him being mic'd up during a preseason game and going off on Switzer on the sideline. (Link stolen from BagOfNothing without consent or permission.)
  • RG3's wife went off, and I do mean off, on Twitter

12.02.2016

It's Friday. Let's Get Out Of Here.

Thought those were piranha puppies for a second.
There is the problem of having to eventually leave.
You've got to think things through. Part 1.
Part 2.
There's a right way to do a U-Turn and this is not it.

Celebrating Brit's Birthday With The Announcement Of Lifetime Movie

Lifetime is set to dramatized Britney Spears’ story — without the singer’s blessing, mind you – and Entertainment Tonight was on the set, dishing out a first look at the TV movie biopic, Britney. Australian actress Natasha Bassett talked with ET about playing Spears. “I have a huge amount of respect for Britney and for her career. I listened to her music so much growing up. I have videos of me as a tween practicing her songs in the mirror with a hairbrush in my hand.” She added, “I’ve watched every video I can. Every interview I can. I just immersed myself into Britneyland.”

The only tragedy was that I was not called in as a consultant. I'd tell them right away we need to find a new lead actress.

Random Friday Morning Thoughts

  • The juicy story of the morning is the DFW pastor suing a car dealership because (1) pastor takes nude photos of wife at home, (2) they go to buy a car, (3) he gives the phone to a salesman because of a financing document he has on the phone, (4) the salesman allegedly goes through the guys photos and finds the nude ones and sends them to a buddy, (5) the buddy uploads them to a swingers site. Man, that's a lot to process. Oh, I forgot to mention that the salesman has the very biblically based name of Matthew Luke Thomas.
  • One of the weirdest thing is that they hired Gloria Allred has their attorney. She's only about one time publicity press conferences and then you never hear anything about the case again. If it is money I was after, I wouldn't hire her.
  • And is the chance of getting money really worth the publicity? There's nothing wrong with taking naked photos of your wife, but I'm not sure I would want to admit I'm dumb enough to keep them on my phone.
  • Argyle's place kicker makes first team all-district with stats of 32 of 35 PATs and 6 of 8 on field goals. Decatur kicker's stats: 71 or 78 on PATs and 1 for 1 on field goals.
  • Pretty cool: Time elapsed Google earth satellite of the metroplex's growth over the last decade or so.
  • "Manuel", the fictional character who played a waiter on the BBC sitcom Fawlty Towers, has died. I mention it because Fawlty Towers is one of my all time favorite comedy series.
  • So let me get this Carrier deal correct: 1,000 jobs are saved, but Carrier will still send 1,300 jobs to Mexico, get $7 million from the government and free publicity. The CEO of Carrier is the guy who needs to be President, not Trump. (And then Trump tells a Cincinnati crowd that he's proven there will be "consequences" for American companies moving operations out of the country.)
  • Hey, Wordkyle: New unemployment numbers this morning show it has dropped to 4.6%, the lowest since 2007.
  • It's the 35th birthday of Official Liberally Lean Girl, Britney Spears.
  • That's a cute Mercedes commercial of the two kids taken to the movie theater on a snowy night. The boy waits anxiously for his little girlfriend wondering if she will show up. But, in reality, they would have been texting like crazy.

Book In Comedy

This is from the Smoking Gun so it's probably credible (and the story is believable.)  And that headline is clever.

Did Decatur Have Nuclear Reactor Meltdown Or Something?

Random Thursday Morning Thoughts

  • The final Texas numbers are in:
  •
  • A former Parker County district judge now advertises a criminal conviction expunction practice on Fox News. (During the block for local commercials.) Edit: He didn't use the word 'conviction" - not that it matters. Expunctions in Texas are basically impossible after any judicial resolution other than a dismissal or acquittal.
  • I keep hearing from various commentators that Scalia wrote the flag burning Supreme Court opinion. (i.e. Bill O'Reilly last night.) No he didn't.
  • I told Mrs. LL that my cotton dress shirts shrink around the neck as they get older. I'm pretty sure her skepticism was the equivalent, "Are you sure you're not just getting fat?"
  • I'm still trying to verify it, but there might have been a police department in Wise County who forgot about two guys in a holding cell overnight when they should have been taken to the Wise County Jail. And I mean completely forgot about.
  • That three person meal between Romney, Trump and Priebus cost over $700. That before taxes and tip.
  • This Carrier deal is the biggest con. And I fear were in for a ton of them. And when Trump talked about Carrier on the campaign trail, he didn't talk about beating them down with tax breaks to make them stay, he said they needed to suffer "consequences" and "retribution" if they left.
  • Steve Eagar last night about a random story: "He has a rap sheet out of Collin County including theft." First, no one calls it a "rap sheet" anymore. Secondly, if the worst thing on your "rap sheet" is theft, it could hardly be called a "rap sheet."
  • There was some weird small planes flying around 407 and 287 yesterday in Wise County. It was like they were playing with each other. I saw four of them at one time really close to the ground.
  • It's almost hard to remember that the Cowboys play tonight. And the most amazing thing we'll see is the Viking's Terence Newman on the field. He was drafted by the Cowboys in 2003.
  • Texas has enacted by rule, not by legislation, that fetal remains after an abortion must be buried or cremated. I thought those boys in Austin said they were only concerned about women's health with past abortion rules and regulations?
  • Odd point about gold theft in New York. In one of the surveillance camera's footage the faces of other people were digitized out. In the other, they were not.  (There wasn't any reason to alter the faces of other people. They were walking on a public street.)

Gold Flakes? Do You Use Gold Milk?

That was a bold move.
