Random Thought

It looks like most of us stayed home this morning due to the ice. But many workers were already off today in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Question: Are they bitter that they don't get the benefit of a surprise "don't-go-to-work" day? More importantly, will this strain race relations in Wise County? Sidenote: Channel 8 just teased their noon newscast with: "And if a trip to the zoo was part of your plans for MLK day, we've got some important news you need to hear." (As they showed footage of an ape with the words "Zoo Closed" underneath him). Well . . . there goes my afternoon.

But At Least We Know The Conditions Of The Street

It appears that a baggage worker at DFW airport was run over by one of those big tractors as it pushed a plane away from the gate. He may be dead (or in critical condition). That would appear to be newsworthy but not a single local station has mentioned it. But they sure are talking about it here on some very odd airport workers message board.

Wise County School Closing Link is . . .

. . . here. I've heard Decatur ISD is shut down for tomorrow, but I am not a trusted source of news and information.

Shopgirl

I stumbled across this movie this weekend and absolutely loved it. "As Ray Porter watches Mirabelle walk away he feels a loss. How is it possible, he thinks, to miss a woman whom he kept at a distance so that when she was gone he would not miss her. Only then does he realize that wanting part of her and not all of her had hurt them both and how he cannot justify his actions . . . . "

Ice Storm Diversion

Jake Gyllenhaal , one of the stars of Wise County's favorite movie, Brokeback Mountain, hosted Saturday Night Live last night. He put on a dress and a wig during his monologue for shtick but was was amazing is that the guy can sing. Really sing. And the two cowboys in the audience was a funny bit. YouTube clip here.

This Kid Would . . .

. . . be on Prozac if he were a Baylor fan. (Pic from the National Championship game last Monday.)

Kill Me

Fox 4 News' John Hammarley has reported live from Gainesville three times in the last 70 minutes. Each time they show footage of some twenty-something year old Cracker Barrel employees scraping ice off their car windows. Seriously, they have ice on their windshields.

I'm Confused

If I absolutely don't have to get out on the roads, should I?

Texas Chainsaw Massacre

James Rose of Fox 4 News just reported that he had talked to the Wise County Sheriff and "he's got inmates standing by like a chain gang with chainsaws ready to cut open ways and make roads accessible." That's a funny visual.

Official Weather Statement From Me

When I drove up to the courthouse at 2:00 p.m. (because it was raining), my official car thermometer read 68 degrees. When I drove back a little before 4:00 p.m., it read 41 degrees.

This Isn't Particularly Earthshaking . . .

. . . but Paula Abdul always seems like she's on crack. (This was from yesterday morning.)

Let's Talk Strippers

The Houston Police apparently don't have enough to do so they decided to arrest 11 strippers at a local club for various offenses. You want to see what the girls' book-in photos? Sure you do. The Smoking Gun has them.
