So Wrong. So Confusing.

Pic From The State of The Union Last Night

I wonder what the dog was thinking? "I wonder what Barney and Miss Beazley are doing later?" "These people creep me out." "I think I'm better looking than Hillary." "I feel like I'm being used."

Uni-Sex Bathroom

There is a letter to the editor today in the Messenger complaining of a uni-sex bathroom in the new Lowe's in Decatur. Didn't quite understand it. I don't think guys and gals are supposed to be in there at the same time, nor does the thought sound particularly enticing.

Messenger Forum

The Messenger has opened up a public forum on its web site with the first question posed being one of "Should the DHS campus be closed for lunch." So far it looks like they aren't censoring the posts (I can't imagine that being true for too long). And so far it has deteriorated into name calling (there's even one commentor calling another one "gay"). And I have yet to see one hot girl posted.

More State of The Union Speech Excerpts

If the following is true, thats-a-good. It probably has nothing to do with government, but good nonetheless: "In recent years, America has become a more hopeful Nation. Violent crime rates have fallen to their lowest levels since the 1970s. Welfare cases have dropped by more than half over the past decade. Drug use among youth is down 19 percent since 2001. There are fewer abortions in America than at any point in the last three decades, and the number of children born to teenage mothers has been falling for a dozen years in a row."

Incredible

Speaking of the State of the Union, our beloved President, who has in the past admitted there is no connection between Iraq and 9/11 begins his speech tonight with this: "Abroad, our Nation is committed to an historic, long-term goal – we seek the end of tyranny in our world. Some dismiss that goal as misguided idealism. In reality, the future security of America depends on it. On September 11th, 2001, we found that problems originating in a failed and oppressive state seven thousand miles away could bring murder and destruction to our country. Dictatorships shelter terrorists, feed resentment and radicalism, and seek weapons of mass destruction. Democracies replace resentment with hope, respect the rights of their citizens and their neighbors, and join the fight against terror. Every step toward freedom in the world makes our country safer, and so we will act boldly in freedom’s cause. " Absolutely incredible. I don't know how he gets away with it.

I Wonder How Many Fighters Are In The Air?

At the risk of getting my phone tapped without a warrant, this very innocent thought occurred to me: As the State of the Union begins (yawn), at no other time are members of our federal government all in the same place at the same time. All Senators, all Representatives, the President's cabinet, the Supreme Court, the Vice President and the President himself. What chaos it would be if there was a terrorist attack.

Sesquicentennial?

My law partner just showed me a 1956 issue of the Wise County Messenger. This is my favorite tidbit about the old Decatur Baptist College: "The first [football] game that the Decatur Baptist College team played was with Bowie High School. The victor of the game was the Bowie High School with a score of seventy-six to nothing. The Decatur Team was a stout team."

Indiana Jones Has Long Since Died

I've been beaten down recently by ads for Harrison Ford's new movie Firewall. You know the drill, he has this concerned look on his face as he says something corny and then some explosion occurs. I used to think the guy was great, but ever since he uttered "Get off my plane!" in Air Force One, I've tuned out.
