Going Polling

I really like the poll on the side. I need to do that more often. And, with 70% of the precincts reporting, it looks like Huckabee in a landslide. I'm mad because I didn't save the results of the very same poll I put up about six months ago, and I'll swear Huckabee didn't finish with even 5% of the vote. Admittedly, I didn't know who he was either back then. (As a sidenote, I search this little blog for "poll results" and came up with quite a few that are here. It's a pretty entertaining look back.)

Poll Results

But I'll admit that we might have some over-voting going on. The results are about as valid as the final recount in Florida in 2000.

Poll Closed

Huckabee in a landslide of biblical proportions. [Rimshot.] He'll probably come in third or fourth in New Hampshire (since a Southern Baptist ex-preacher doesn't stand a chance up there), but I think he's in good shape the rest of the way.

(And, by the way, the graphics for the poll results are awful - one thing that Google, who hosts this blog, does poorly.)

Poll Results

What do you think of the Reunion? - Top Notch. Wouldn't Miss It..................11% - Not Bad. Go Every Now and Then ...... 14% - Overrated.................................................34% - Hate It. Would Never Go Back................8% - Never Been...............................................30% Total votes cast: 216 And man, that is the ugliest looking poll in the world. But we'll follow it up with a reader suggestion who was curious about the demographics of The Blog.

Random Friday Morning Thoughts

- "Federal authorities on Thursday broke up a Tarrant County-based Asian drug ring that imported thousands of pounds of high-potency marijuana into North Texas from Canada in the last three years, according to U.S. Attorney Richard Roper's office."A three year investigation over pot? I'm more concerned about our high tax bills than people getting high on pot.
- I saw two new girls in a Sonic commercial this morning that I've never seen before. Not sure what I think about that.
- I keep remembering to take a picture of a weird billboard outside of Rhome that's a repetition of dog with a crazy background. Have no idea what it is for.
- I was always a huge "Sex And The City" fan. And Channel 8's Gary Gogill calls the new movie "The greatest chick flick of all time."
- I'm halfway through "There Will Be Blood." Loved the phrase "blow gold all over this place" in reference to the potential oil well.
- Finished "The Great Gatsby" yesterday. Can I rename it "The Pretty Good Gatsby"?
- I think my next book will be the one written by Pat Tillman's mom. That guy, although a patriot, was probably a knuckledhead but I'm more interested in the government cover up in connection with his "friendly fire" death. Edit: And by "knucklehead" I mean if he is anything like his brother who threw down some F Bombs at the funeral and showed up in a T-shirt.
- There's always a White Envoy around the courthouse square. Saw it yesterday with significant rear-end damage. I was frustrated that I didn't have anyway of finding out what happened.
- The NFL commissioner met with Pacman Jones over the weekend about his reinstatement. Do you think the suit wearing, button-downed commissioner ever referred to him as "Pacman"?
- Fox 4 carried a police chase live at 6:30 p.m. yesterday. I'd watch a 24 hour police chase channel if there were one.
- Worst boyfriend ever?
- Worst sucker punch ever?
- Listened to a little bit of Jeff Bolton on KLIF this morning. I now know what all the right wing nut cases are listening to in the morning.
- A commenter noted that Harvey Korman has died. Maybe I'm not paying attention, but its not getting much media attention this morning. A lot of old TV is bad TV, but any skit involving Harvey Korman and Tim Conway, with Korman always unable to control his laughter, was worth watching. Edit: Youtube clip of a skit of the two.
- Vincent
Bugliosi, the Charles Manson prosecutor, has recently authored "The Prosecution Of George W. Bush For Murder". He was on the Mark Davis show yesterday pn WBAP, and I thought they were going to come to blows. (If you could come to blows over a telephone wire.)
- Got sucked into some college softball playoffs last night on ESPN. I still enjoy the huge smiles that break out on the girls faces whenever a crucial hit is made.
- Added Craig's List to the Wise County home page a couple of days ago. Some great stuff on there and some freaky stuff on there.
- If you could time travel, would you go forward or backwards? No question for me: I'd be a disciple of Jesus for two years.
- Even I'm surprised by the poll results for the Random Thoughts. Sometimes I can fire these off in a crazed stream of consciousness. Other times I struggle like a drunk Joe Namath.

AlvordOnline.com

I honestly don't check AlvordOnline.com very often but I ran by it a second ago. And when I did, I just had to look at their "Last Week's Poll Results"  Hmmmm. 50% on both sides. I wonder how many people voted.

Well, at least it's not a bunch of kids reading this silliness.

Random Friday Morning Thoughts

  • I mentioned the other day that I thought SMU coach Larry Brown looks and sounds like he has health problems. Yesterday there was confirmation that he was ill. And I'm not sure there is not more to it.
  • If you got out of your car at 8:01 in Decatur this morning, you got rocked by thunder and lightning and rain which seemed to come out of nowhere.
  • A guy in Fort Worth was held in contempt and jailed yesterday by Judge Wayne Salvant for "taking pictures of the jury."  Man, this is a great First Amendment issue (taking a photo qualifies as "speech".) What if the photos were taken in the hallway? I don't think there is a law against that and how could it be constitutional if there were? It's a public courtroom. I'm allowed to go in and see the jury and even learn their names if I was there for jury selection. But I can never take a juror's picture? What about if I do it next year in a public place? What if I'm a victim's family member and I'm doing it because I'm proud of the jurors?
  • And another issue about that case is that it sounds like the judge demanded that the guy turn over his phone so it could be searched for the photos. We know the police can't do that without a warrant and a judge is no different.
  • Mrs. LL and I will dramatically hand over the TV remote to the other after either of us feels like we've monopolized it for too long or we know the other is wanting to watch something.
  • Had the oddest experience two days ago when I passed a guy while jogging (he was walking) and he was very loudly singing, "Can't you see? Can't you see? What that woman . . . has done to me." Surprisingly, his voice was fantastic. Mrs. LL said that some vocalist practice while walking. I was thinking he just ended a relationship. Perhaps both?
  • Looked up that song which I hadn't heard in a while. It had a 61 second musical intro and lasted 6:05. You don't see that today.
  • The Update has an item today about a 56 old lady (and first time offender) who was given a two year "deferred" sentence and placed on five years probation for simple drug possession. I'm nitpicking but "deferred" is the wrong word. I think you meant to say it was a two year sentence in the State Jail probated and suspended for five years. (But this bullet point is the equivalent of someone pointing out spelling errors on Random Thoughts, and I'd delete it if I hadn't spent so much effort on it.)
  • I love Junior Miller on The Ticket but he says the dumbest things sometimes. Today he cited a Channel 8 "Text Poll" on whether the public supported the Cowboys signing of Greg Hardy. The results were 93% against and 7% for. He was surprised. I was surprised he thought the poll had any credibility. A poll which requires the respondents to take action in order to respond will always end in a result that favors the most emotionally based response. Who was more likely to take the effort to text in? Those for or those against the signing? It would be those who are angry.
  • That Hillary email "scandal" lasted about as long as I thought it would. (Completely irrelevant side note: You've got some serious name recognition when someone can be refer to you by your first name only.)
  • Dale Hansen made national news yesterday for his "Unplugged" segment which is the reason he did it in the first place.  Many agreed with me yesterday with someone on the radio even saying, "How in the world did Dale Hansen become the moral authority for DFW?"
  • A Northwest ISD student was in class this week despite writing a fictional story which was violent and sexual in nature and which included the names of his classmates. Some want him removed.  Isn't this another First Amendment issue?  Can a kid write fiction without any threat of actually acting out on that fiction and be free from punishment by the government? The answer has to be "yes", right?

I'm kind of surprised to learn of the "mature" age of the people that read this silliness on a daily basis. Thanks to all.
