Random Tuesday Morning Thoughts

  • Old clips of Janis Joplin singing = Power Down.
  • I once slept walked out of a hotel in San Francisco while on vacation as a boy with my family. When I made it back to the hotel room in the middle of the night (I was gone for probably 10 minutes), they were scared to open the door because I was banging on it so hard and they had no idea what was going on.
  • I remember realizing where I was when I tried to open a newspaper rack in the hotel parking lot.
  • Greatest. Photoshop. Ever. (Thanks, Keith.) And everyone tells me that's the worst picture of me they've ever seen.
  • Vacation thought: I might drive across the South by myself. Stopping often to see stuff that guide books tell me I should see. Hole in the wall restaurants. Small towns. Louisiana. Alabama. Mississippi. And then into Florida down to the Keys (which would probably turn a pleasant trip into a long one).
  • But with my luck I'd probably end up tied to a tree ala Deliverance.
  • The stem cell debate broke out yesterday which caused the abortion debate to break out which, in turn, caused the "every life is precious" comments to flow. Except those uttering "every life is precious" will later say that a life, who can't find work and seeks government assistance, is a leach on society.
  • Shannon Tweed is 52 today.
  • Two things that would be horrible to experience: The church shooting and the child being run over in a driveway. And both have made the news in the last couple of days.
  • Brit Brit in a bikini. (And, yes, I saw the concert video that was all over the Internets yesterday.)
  • Channel 8 now runs a brief spot during its newscasts which simply says, "It's 10:00 o'clock. Do you know where your children are?" That was a mainstay of the channel back when I was growing up. It's amazing how it still applies all these years later.
  • Criminal charges against teenagers in Plano who faked the kidnapping in a parking lot? Not a chance. There is no applicable law. But I'm sure the Texas Legislature will immediately spring into action to remedy this problem that we've never heard of before this weekend.
  • Description of new Dallas Cowboys luxury suite: "The suite was filled with Brazilian granite, Canadian marble, leather-clad walls and walnut trim. The front of the bar was wrapped in crocodile leather and stocked with Woodford Reserve bourbon, PatrĂ³n Silver tequila and other premium liquor" Recession?
  • The use of ankle monitors on truant students by a local JP has made the Messenger and today the Star Telegram. But I noticed this sentence: "No students have been sanctioned with the monitor yet . . . ." Edit: Good grief. I just hear about this on WBAP.
  • In other news, local officials are considering freezing the bodies of probation violators. No probationers have been sanctioned with the freezing device yet.
  • And another (hot kindergarten teacher.)

Talk About Obsessed With Brit

I thought I was hallucinating last night. I'm watching Georgia and Alabama and the game is in overtime. For college football fans, this is big. Huge. The world hangs in the balance. And then, in this nationally televised game, out of no where (and I mean really out of no where) came this bizarre exchange: Patrick: I've got an important question. Blackledge:"Go ahead." Patrick: "What's Britney doing with her life?" Blackledge: "Who?" Patrick: "Britney." Blackledge: "Britney who?" Patrick: "Britney Spears. What's she doing with her career?" Blackledge: "Why do we care at this point? Is she here?"

Random Tuesday Morning Thoughts

  • Coronavirus American death toll: 6. People killed in tornadoes last night in Tennessee: 9. Edit: 22 dead.
  • Oh, come on.
  • Wise County, here are your voting locations today. Side note: I'm not sure why the person in charge of the official Wise County website didn't want to type out "Early Voting" and "Election Day" instead of using "EV" and "ED." And we all know "LAT notice" means the notice of the "Location" of "Automatic Tabulating" equipment testing. Spoiler alert: It was back in January.
  • Spot the problems. (It's been deleted.)
  • Flashback to Texas Republican primary voting in 2016. (Voter turnout was 19.92% by the way.)
  • Wise County was pretty much in line with the state as Cruz received 5,514 votes to Trump's 3,488. But turnout was 30.05%. (All county results are broken down here.)
  • Brit Hume posted a screenshot off his laptop early this morning and forgot about an open browser tab. The tweet was up for about two hours before he deleted it.
    . . . which leads to . . .

  • Dateline Austin. This is why we can't have nice things.
  • When the President of the United States wants to be petty early in the morning but can't spell.
  • AT&T TV launched nationwide this week. It's really kind of confusing. It's a streaming package but you need a box instead of just a "Smart TV". And it comes with a long-term contract that jumps to $93 after the first year. And if it basically sounds like DirecTV without the dish, it is. The plan is for it to replace DirecTV. Here's the C|Net article.
  • What are we going to do without those Bloomberg ads? Today is the last day.

All Britney, All The Time

Brit performed at the House of Blues last night. Jerky video here. But the big news is that pics of her covering her yahootys with nothing but flowers are all over the celebrity web sites today. Since I'm offended by such smut, I refuse to link to them (although you see more skin in a bra commercial), but you could probably find them if you looked for thesuperficial.com or wwtdd.com. But I know you won't.

Brit?

I'm want my picture taken by Allure magazine because I want to look 1,000% better than I do in real life. This isn't an old pic, it's in the new issue.

Speaking Of Brit

As another blog noted, why was Britney wearing a Rogers Healy Realtor t-shirt yesterday? That guy's agency is based in Dallas and he currently lists a whopping seven homes for sale. Seven? Sue Ann Denton, send her a shirt. This is a marketing opportunity of biblical proportions.

Brit Better Step It Up

Or I'll replace her as the Official Chick of Liberally Lean.

We got standards around here.

Britney Taking You Into The Weekend

"Hey, Brit, you know you'll always be the number one Liberally Lean girl"

"But I think Wordkyle may have a crush on you"

"And Rage, too"

This Picture Is Everywhere

And everyone tells me it's a picture of Britney from the filming of her new video which, oddly, will debut on 20/20 this Friday. But I've pretty much downloaded every picture of Brit since she went crazy a couple of years ago. She's on my desktop wallpaper, the cover pic on my iPhone, and on my Christmas cards. I even hold up the picture of her shaving her head during my DWI closing arguments to try deflect criticism away from my innocent client and to cause a question mark to form over the prosecutor's head. But, to paraphrase Lloyd Bentsen, "I know Britney. Britney was a friend of mine. You, girl in the picture, do not look like Britney."
