Random Wednesday Morning Thoughts

I can't find out what the selling price was.

  • The Northern Lights were visible from Wise County last night.

  • Gift link.  That's a picture of the alleged victim. At first blush you would think it is a good case, but the Tarrant County DA's office also made the odd decision to charge the victim with resisting arrest, too.

  • TCU is raising tuition. (Gift link.)

  • Big breaking news. The House Oversight Committee just released new emails they received from the Jeffrey Epstein’s estate

  • Who would have thought Fox News' Laura Ingraham would have the best interviews of Trump. (Video)

  • This has to be bad for even the New York Post to run with this story

  • So the Trump Administration is now relying on DoorDash economic reports? (And the Press Secretary even lied about the report and got community noted for it on Twitter.)

  • Just moments ago, the Trump Administration announced new free money.

  • Tech is having a season for all seasons, and they need to pay ESPN royalties forever for this camera work after the interception in the opening moments of the game last Saturday. (Video.)

  • I thought it was pretty cool when I heard that Paradise and Boyd would face each other in the volleyball playoffs (in Chico) for the right to advance in the state playoffs. But I accidentally ended up being enthralled last night by the point by point update from the Messenger.  Boyd won the first two sets and looked to be on their way to a three set sweep. Then Paradise shockingly won the next two sets, and was leading 13-9 in the final set (first one to 15) when Boyd went on a six point run to win 15-13. Good stuff.

Random Tuesday Morning Thoughts

It's the 10 year anniversary of Dez Bryant telling then Cowboys PR Director Rich Dalrymple to, uh, rectify a situation. Video.

  • A surprise restaurant death on the Wise County courthouse square.

  • You knew this was coming.

    • Let's see how that earlier promise for free defense representation works out.

  • Oh, my.

  • The U.S. has now murdered 76 people without a war being declared or a trial being held. Six more people were killed over the weekend.

  • Arrested? It doesn't work that way.  Free speech means society having to tolerate offensive and vile comments.  Video of the incident.

  • Murder prosecutions in Texas against officers for deaths caused while on duty have had a rough week.
    • Austin: They are going to drop the charges in exchange for letting  him teach how to react?

    • San Antonio:  It took the jury less than two hours of deliberations after this "month long" trial.

  • Trumpisms from yesterday:
  • Over the weekend, the conspiracy nutjobs jumped all over a capitol police officer by accusing her of planting a pipe bomb right before their Insurrection on January 6th. Now, the source of it all is walking it back.

    • Here's the original post that linked to a story saying the officer, who they named, was guilty because her "gait" was a "95% match" to the person seen in video surveillance. I hope she sues them into oblivion.

  • Since it the responsibility of almost all of Texas county-wide political candidates to file with either the local Republican or Democratic party,  those party officials should have a constantly update website telling us who has filed to run for office.  But it is pretty rare to see it.

Random Monday Morning Thoughts

An odd note is that Travis County paid her $500,000 to avoid a lawsuit.

  • According to the Wise County Messenger, all the teens were from Canada and in Wise County to attend a motorcycle race.

  • Eight Democrat senators caved and agreed to reopen the government last night based upon a promised vote in the Senate in December to restore ACA subsidies.  It won't pass, and the House wouldn't approve it anyway, but they think they'll be able get the chance to publicly blame Republicans for healthcare premiums going up.

    • Read the room, buddy.

  • While Trump took Air Force One  to Mar-a-Lago on Friday night, his justice department asked the Supreme Court to stop a lower court's order requiring SNAP benefits to be paid to the poor.

  • We have another sports betting scandal. "Prosecutors allege that Luis Ortiz was paid $5,000 for throwing an intentional ball June 15 and Emmanuel Clase given $5,000 for facilitating it. They did it again, according to the indictment, June 27. The payment for each on that pitch was $7,000 apiece."

    • Side note: Federal indictments are apparently including photographs now.

  • Dateline: Tampa, Florida.

  • We have new pardons this morning.  And the fake electors were also included in addition to the list below. And this will only empower more attempts to overturn elections in the future -- attempts which will be successful this time.  It's over.

    • Other Trump pardons  on Friday that you probably didn't even hear about.

  • Other crazy stuff by Trump over the weekend:
    • Trump's wine is now available to sell to the military.
    • Sheesh.

    • Does anyone want to tell him this won't work?

    • Does anyone want to tell him that would increase inflation and increase the debt? (This will never, ever happen.)

    • Trump tweeted out a fake story from a website that literally says, "“Everything on this website is fiction.”

    • On Trump's way back to the airport in Florida yesterday, the trunk on "The Beast" was open. Really.

  • The Business Second™.

  • Bad judge. (Allegedly.)

  • She's hoping (again) that Tarrant County finally turns blue. I'm not saying it will happen, but it could happen this next election if it's ever going to.

  • The NFL played its first game ever in Berlin in the Olympic Stadium first made famous by Hitler.  These side by side photos are really amazing.

  • In west Texas, three coaches flipped for a playoff spot late Friday night at a convenience store. Video.

  • Speaking of, across the state there are three 1-9 teams which made the high school playoffs.
