It's Friday -- Let's Get Out of Here

Random Friday Morning Thoughts

A great social media strategy like this got Willett appointed off the Texas Supreme Court, where he served at the time of the above post, to the federal Fifth Circuit.

  •  A post on Facebook from her mother here.

  • My weird feeling about this trial turned out not to be justified at all. (Put another way, I was wrong.)

  • Gift link

  • Delkus didn't miss on predicting the heavy thunderstorms last night -- he says the models missed it.

  • Overnight, the official Reagan Foundation claimed that Canada was running an ad that was misleading regarding President Reagan's stance on tariffs.

    • Then Trump went nuts calling the ad "FAKE" and then punishing Canada.

    • But if you listen to the ad (1:00 long) and then listen to Reagan's original brief radio address (5:10 long on YouTube), they are exactly the same. There's nothing misleading at all. Reagan hated tariffs and the ad took the literal audio of him saying it. I understand Trump lying - we're used to it - but what's up with the Reagan Foundation? This is all so Orwellian.
  • A couple of months back, Wise County Rep. Ronny Jackson sued California Gov. Gavin Newsom for that state's current attempt to redraw congressional districts. Yesterday, the most friendly Trump judge in America dismissed the case (PDF). (Side note: Jackson did not attend yesterday's ceremony rededicating the Wise County Courthouse.)  The Daily Beast was very blunt:

  • A handy guide, with lots of great graphics, for modern day America. Gift link.

    • And yesterday, Trump told us that "friends of mine" can determine if  he will send those troops onto certain American cities.

  • The corruption never ends. When a reporter asked him about it yesterday, Trump said, "A lot of people say he wasn't guilty of anything . . .  . You don't know much about crypto. You know nothing about nothing, you fake news."

  • Breaking economic news: Inflation rose to 3% last month .

  • Lauren Whitener Clock: 6 years and 112 days.

Random Thursday Morning Thoughts

This video out of Granbury was all over the local news. It would eventually lead to a 15 year prison sentence.

  • Well, this isn't good.

  • Not exactly what you want to see happen to your school district:

  • This is the guy who was on the lam in Kaufman County after missing a court date last year.  I'd keep an eye on this trial which is currently ongoing. I've got a funny feeling about it.

  • We are now randomly killing people on boats in the Pacific Ocean.

  • The New York Times went exploring about how things went so wrong in the Camp Mystic tragedy. Gift link.

  • Someone is trying to throw the dope-smoking DA in West Texas out of office.

  • “What happened in the 2020 election” was that a Democrat was elected president in a free and fair election.  He is telling us that will never happen again, and there's is no question they are working on it.  It's over.

  • As bulldozers leveled the East Wing yesterday, Trump showed off photos of what his new ballroom will look like. It's as gawdy as you would expect.

    • By the way, he had previously said the East Wing wouldn't even be touched because of the construction. Flashback:

  • Trump tells cattle ranchers they don't know how cattle ranching works.

  • Delkus gives you rain predictions:
  • Big breaking sports news. The FBI will hold a press conference at 10:00.   Rozier's arrest involves the allegation of fixing games. The coach's arrest, which is amazingly unrelated,  is for mafia-related poker games.

  • The Business Second™. Even the right wing New York Post couldn't spin this news any other way.

  • Legal stuff: I think the judge might have been unduly harsh on the prosecutor here. Story.

Random Wednesday Morning Thoughts

Hillary appeared at the hearing 10 years ago today.

  •  The re-grand opening of the courthouse is tomorrow and, let me tell you, they are scrambling on trying to get the exterior around the building presentable.

  • Corruption in plain sight. His former defense lawyers who are now in leadership positions of the Justice Department, including Todd Blanche, will decide whether or not to pay him for the meritless claims.  (Gift link.)

    • And there's no secret about it. He admitted it all yesterday after the story came out. Video.

  • It had looked like that only a small portion of the East Wing was going to be destroyed. Nope, the whole East Wing is going down.

  • We've finally found something which will stop a Trump nominee: Admit to being a Nazi.

  • Random Trump quote from yesterday:

  • I'll never get over Trump pardoning all the Insurrectionists.

  • The Technology Second™.

  • "SHERMAN, Texas (KTEN) —  He was set for sentencing today and chose to take a different way out rather than face the music in court," said District Attorney John Kermit Hill . . . .  Tucker shot and killed himself at his attorney's office just minutes before his scheduled appearance."

  • This Houston trial is going on this week.

  • We've had two days of early voting for the Texas constitutional amendments election and 555 people have voted in Wise County.
