Yet another reason people are giving up on organized religion. Spiritual abuse followed by multiple instances of sarcastic "God bless you" and "I love you." Just another pastor puffing himself up and trying to prove to his flock that he reigns supreme over his little domain.
Where is Christ in this? Where is the witness for the gospel? Where is the building of relationships and affecting lives? Nowhere. It's 100% "look at me, I'm the head man in charge here and you'll OBEY ME."
And before you Bible-thumpers retort about Jesus clearing the moneychangers out of the temple with a whip, stop. Christ was symbolically showing that the old system of animal sacrifice was gone - he was cleansing the temple of an animals-for-money system that was no longer necessary because he became the ultimate sacrifice. He wasn't just really pissed off and gonna clean things up.
"Gos bless you." (At least while in the womb, but not again until we need you to fight our BS wars, and as soon as you take the uniform off we'll go back to ignoring you.)
Wow! I have been attending church regularly for years and NEVER seen anyone do something like this! Yes, it's easy to group all churches and preachers together - but please know that just as there are "good people" and "bad people" in this world, the same is true about preachers.
11:46, You bet he's a republican? I bet he's a jerk. Both parties have jerks. I bet you are a lockstep democrat with no capacity to think consciously about issues, but only decide what you think after your party of choice has informed you of the "correct" answer. Locksteppers both republican and democrat are dangerous, and more to the point, kinda dumb. BTW, going to church is a waste of time and money.
I go to church all of the time and couldn't stand to be around a pastor this pompous!
Remember in high school some of the kids were talking in church during the sermon. The pastor made a quick remark and even fit it into the sermon. It took a second to realize that he was discipling the kids.
At least he did not call this man out and continue to call him out like this idiot!
To 11:11 AM--I sure can't condone that behavior, either. However, Jesus was driving the moneychangers out because they were conducting their business in the area of the Temple known as the Court of the Gentiles, and it had become an area of commerce, not prayer, and it was the only area that Gentiles were allowed into. Yes, He WAS going to become the ultimate sacrifice, but that hadn't happened yet, and his actions fulfilled the prophecy that the Messiah would have "zeal" for the House of the Lord. His primary purpose was to create the proper worshipful atmosphere for ALL areas of the Temple, NOT point that animal sacrifices were going to be unnecessary in the near future.
Appears that if we had more preachers like him and the old days kids wouldn't be killing each other and it would be a better place. Why would some rude ass want to talk during the sermon anyway?
11:11 am said it very eloquently. The hyprocisy in that man standing in the pulpit is disgusting - YES, no wonder folks turn away from organized religion. This preacher's old time style is likely what has caused "modern" day religious institutions to give up on denominational labels and go just as crazy with "entertainment centers".
We still have both kinds. I don't want anything to do with either kind. Give me a church that preaches the love of Jesus Christ in a worshipful manner.
So much for demonstrating tolerance, patience and lovingkindness...
I can understand how he feels, but mature Christians should have the divine power to not react on the basis of feelings, but act in a Christ-like manner, no matter the circumstance.
I must remember that I cannot cast the first stone! I am responsible for my own actions, as Brother Smith is for his.
Pride was the greatest downfall of the religious leaders in Christ's day. It looks like pride and condemnation is still alive and well in the heart of most Americans...

Why in the world do people go and subject themselves to jagoffs like this old man?
