Random Wednesday Morning Thoughts

(New photo)
  • Is the killer of the Kaufman County prosecutor going to get away with it? Maybe. I wonder if it was murder-for-hire.
  • It was sleeting this morning for a bit.
  • There was a weird lawsuit filed in Texas by a 16 year old girl who claimed her parents were coercing her into having an abortion against her will. Everyone came to an agreement.
  • Talk show host Mark Davis called her parents "evil" this morning and said the girl should marry her 17 year old boyfriend and "get into church and start listening to God."  He wasn't that religious when at WBAP.
  • Sports: The self-important Jean Jacques Taylor tweeted this weekend: "Romo threw only 83 passes when ahead last year. Tom Brady threw 335 passes when ahead. Wow." He basically called me stupid when I asked him how many more minutes the Patriots were ahead than the Cowboys.
  • Bill O'Reilly had two lawyers on a panel last night who said to have a successful lawsuit against Carnival Cruise the plaintiff would have to prove the company "knew" the engines would fail. That couldn't be further from the truth.
  • On the home page of the Star-Telegram this morning: A photo spread of the Twin Peaks restaurant's "Lingerie Week". Scantily clad women to promote a web site? Who would stoop so low? Oh. Wait.
  • According to the Update, Bridgeport is considering artificial turf for its stadium. That'll cause someone in the comments section to go crazy.

You normally catch flak for re-running a picture of RTGs. Prediction: you'll catch A LOT of flak for re-running today's picture.

Bridgeport Taxpayer for Turf! But on one condition, FIX the Girls Athletic Program first. Ask any parent of the many girls not willing to play next year what THE PROBLEM is. Then do the right thing and fix it. Please

so, counselor, let me get this straight.............one lawyer makes a statement and another lawyer calls him a liar. Is this supposed to make the news?

Haven't you realized that a lawyers job is to tell their lies in a more convincing way than the other lawyer tells his lies?

You commented the other day on the outgoing CEO of bankrupt American Airlines getting a $20 million severance check................ why shouldn't he? Do you think he should be paid based on his performance?

Lawyers get paid no matter what happens so why shouldn't CEOs?

Your chosen profession sets the standard for greed and then you point out the AA CEO?

RTG: Definitely one of the biggest errors you have made! YUCK!!!

First, Repeat Pic!

Second, the Tom Brady/Romo stat is stupid on so many levels.

Just one example: The Patriots pass the ball like other teams run the ball. So most teams with a lead (i.e. The Cowboys) will run clock, but not the Patriots they pass early and late from behind or with a lead. As with all media, trying to make a story where there just is not one!

8:52 Please elaborate. I have heard rumors of issues and several girls not returning but I have yet to understand or hear the reasoning behind it.

15 years ago a coach wasn't a good enough reason to keep you from doing something you loved to do.

Hey Oscar, you idiot, if you have an intruder that is that HOT, you dont shoot them with those kinna bullets. Know what I mean?

Pic 15 on Twin Peaks = ghay!

8:52, unless it's a dirt field, the football field in Bridgeport already has turf. Not artificial turf, but turf nonetheless.

Some of those Twin Peaks babes have lace panties. I dont think I could concentrate on the menu.

Will have to check back frequently to see all the comments coming in 3, 2, 1...regarding turf in Bullport.

Bacon comments twice...is this supposed to make up for his homo support?

As for the cruise line, i'd hold off on those firm projections about what could and couldn't be close to the truth, until i had seen the passengers' tickets. Much like the back of a baseball game ticket that says the spectator assumes the risk of getting whacked in the head by a foul ball, the passengers' cruise tickets probably contain a mediation agreement/waiver to file suit, a liquidated damages clause and a jurisdictional agreement. Most courts will enforce those...UNLESS there is a reason to believe the shipline knew or had reason to know that it couldn't fulfill the contract when it sold the tickets. Like, for instance knowing that the engins would fail or having a good reason to suspect that might be the case. So there might be merit to the opinions of O'Reilly's talking heads.

A conservative group using Roe to forward a cause confuses me. Arguing for the girl is tantamount to arguing against parental notification laws right?

Anonymous said...

Maybe the Carnival lawsuit is not so far fetched. My daughers family was on the Triumph two weeks prior to the breakdown cruise and they had engine trouble on their cruise.

They remained at sea for the same number of days but stopped at Progresso only. The cruise was supposed to stop at Progresso and Cancun but because of the engine problems the ship could not cruise at the normal speed; therfore, one stop was eliminated.

Lets just elect Henson For Mayor and let him do whatever he wants for crying outloud, team makes playoffs without turf anyway and what is this 5 year savings plan? If Henson took a paycut he could have bought turf himself!!!

8:55 #2, You are full of crap. I guess you got sued once and thought it was groundless. And maybe it was, or maybe it wasn't; but as far as you're concerned it's all some lawyer's fault. And of course you had to pay a lawyer too, but I guess you still lost. So that makes all lawyers evil. Has that about got it?

Well, boo hoo. The world isn't perfect, and it isn't the job of lawyers to make it perfect. Nobody can do the impossible.

A world without lawyers would be anarchy.

Try law school yourself. Walk a mile in THEIR shoes. Then if you want to bitch, at least it won't be coming from such profound ignorance of the subject.

Bridgeport ISD might as well go ahead and build a new stadium if their going to pay that much. Roll it all into one and include the fix for the girls athletics

Bridgeport High School's census should be decreasing due to many families moving their kids because of "Henson World".

Did some fact checking, something a few of you may want to think about doing from time to time.

Brady for the 2012 Regular Season:

637 pass attempts
401 pass completions
4827 yards
34 TDs
8 Int

Romo for the 2012 Regular Season:

648 pass attempts
425 pass completions
4903 yards
28 TDs
18 Int

And this little nugget, if you take the top rushing performance for NE/Dal for each game and average it for the season, NE's best performance averaged 85 yds/game and Dal was 56 yds/game.

So the "passing" team rushed for more yards/game than the "rushing" team.

In looking at the regular season records(and without spending the time to figure out the details of each game), it is fairly obvious that NE was ahead in many games for great lengths of time, and had several blow out wins where Brady racked up some big numbers.

I hate to say it Bu, but I think your HSO was relevant.

And just my opinion here, but I don't think QB, TE(except age) and WR1 are the issues with the Dallas O. I think the O-line is not a good good, we can't seem to keep a RB healthy and our WR2/WR3 seldom produce.

On defense, there were a lot or injuries last year, which makes it really hard to evaluate how good or bad they are. Based on numbers alone, they were in the middle third of the league, which to me, says the good teams will beat you and the bad teams won't.

I'm really looking forward to another 8-8(+/-) season for the 'Boys.

RTG: One on the left-uh...no.
one on the right is OK, kind of cute. Seen better BG, but they beat the heck out of the first pic!

Anonymous said...

Henson world is great...you are just jealous because your kids can't play - tell them to work harder and be a better athlete! Girls problem is the coaching...fix that and you will have girls back in the program!

Anonymous said...

RTG on the right is a recent repeat as well. She's beautiful, but that tummy is just weird.

Don't waste the money on the turf! It is not necessary! But he will probably get it. Like when the voters voted against them getting the laptops for the high school (which is a waste of money too), but then the board went ahead and bought them anyway with their reserve funds. The people speak by voting and the board doesn't give a damn.

I realize the kids arent the main issue when it comes to deciding on artificial turf. But ask the football players what they prefer to play on and a majority will say natural turf.
Sure its fun for them to play on artificial turf every once in a while, but it is a lot hotter and the injuries seem to increase.
Even the latest and greatest field turf isnt as good as grass.
Hopefully bridgeport wont fall into the trap of "trying to keep up with the Jones'" and just keep the field they have. The coaches always keep the field in good shape. And if they get tired of doing that, the district could hire a fulltime agronomist or turf specialist and still spend less than paying for an artificial turf surface.

Put on demand web cams in the boys locker room and I'll be all for the artificial turf proposal at BP!

Why on earth would you take kids to Twin Peaks? I'm not what anyone would consider socially conservative, but use some freaking common sense. Just because they serve food does not mean it's OK to take your kids there.

If we are going to have playing fields, they should all be turf. Water is too precious to be used in that manner.

Bridgeport look at DISD they wanted Turf and it cost a few of the school board members a job! Vote carefully

Anonymous said...

Rhome got a paid fire department, now Bridgeport needs turf! F Decatur...let them eat grass!

Bridgeport is an unacceptable district when it comes to education, but they will spend hundreds of thousands of dollars for turf? I wonder where their priorities are?

I've learned three things...
1) Henson haters show up anonymous on this blog about every 6 years.
2) Henson haters frequent a liberal blog.
3) they don't bad mouth him because he's a good coach....they do it because their son sucks.

Henson haters, make a valid point or post your name.

Decatur replaced school board members due to many things other then turf

Anonymous said...

We will get turf before those fools from Decatur

Anonymous said...

Pool resources. Build a kick-a$$ stadium on the Big Sandy and share the thing. It won't sit empty half of football season and it would clear up some land for both districts to use for other things...like school buildings.

Anonymous said...

Decatur needs some changes before support will be given

Hey 6:23 You son sucks My son was a starter under the Henson Era And I still think he blows!!

Anonymous said...

6:23pm,

Sure. I'll make one. Colin Jones final game as a Bull should have been a victory. He was a man among boys on the field that day. Instead, Coach Henson got a case of the clevers and went to someone else for a 2 pt conv. EVERYONE in the bowl that day knew who should have the rock on that play.

BTW, the Bulls would have also won if ANY STUDENT in the program could have learned to kick PATs. You would think that would be something one would make sure happened. He didn't. And it was an apostrophe on the most tragic loss for the Bulls. Ever.

If you really want to kiss his ass that much, fine. Methinks you don't have a dog in the fight, just like to go to games on Fridays at Bull Memorial. Go watch a middle school or JV game. Watch the coaches. Compare them to other schools. Or, I suggest you go watch a track meet. Or even better, go try watching a Bridgeport team at a cross-country meet. Or best of all? Go have a daughter and put her through Bridgeport Athletics.

Bridgeport ISD and Decatur ISD should consolidate (maybe along with some others as well); build a big 5A campus out just east of Big Sandy, to complement the Weatherford College campus on the west side; and call the mascot the Wise Owls.

So I have spoken. So let it be done.
