- Mrs. LL's softball team won a playoff game last night to stay alive in the double elimination tournament. She was distraught later when she learned two players will miss the next game because they are going to a school dance instead. Meeting Boys greater than Softball.

- Hey, I'm a dog lover and I was sickened over the little dog who died after being burned in Dallas. But for a bunch of people to show up in opposition to a potential bond reduction for the teenager accused of the crime is a little over the top. Dead people don't get that kind of support.
- One of the strangest arguments that the kid is guilty was heard on The Fan yesterday: If he isn't guilty then why did he turn himself in? Uh, because there was a warrant. You can either turn yourself in on your terms or you can wait to be picked up.
- The blog at the Texas Monthly failed to realize that the Wise County Messenger's crime blotter has turned into a bit.
- I thought Black Hawk Down was about one helicopter crash and the story of how a couple of guys were rescued. Good grief, I couldn't have been more wrong. I've gotten to the end of Day One and we've got a cluster going on!
- I think the best part of the shocking Time magazine cover is the kid's eyes. There's just something funny about him staring at the camera.
- The guy on trial in Wise County for a multitude of crimes chose the judge instead of a jury to assess punishment. He received the maximum. Whenever you have a crime where a jury would probably deliberate around the high end of the punishment range, you don't want to let the judge decide: He or she will always choose the higher number.
- But the defendant and the deputy who escorted him out of the courthouse look alike.
- I saw a TV commercial for the Texas Railroad Commissioner who promises to "stand up against Obama." I didn't know he was threatening her.
- I thought the days of "credit default swaps" (which I tried to explain here) were over but news broke last night that JPMorgan has been hit with a $2 billion loss because of them over the last two weeks.
- Hey, even I'll admit the media's reporting that Mitt Romney might have harassed a gay guy while in prep school was completely unfair. The guys is 65 years old. I don't care what he did in high school.

Referencing the crime blotter: Kristen Tribe at the WCM is so over the top (in a bad way) in most of her writings. She's not half as good as she thinks she is (people who know her tell me she thinks too highly of herself), and this latest whining column of hers is just a ploy for attention.

She, like the majority of people from Texas, the USA and the World have not been brainwashed (like you have) into thinking sex freaks should be granted a marriage license so it will make them feel normal. My brother was in Somalia during the time frame of "Black Hawk Down". He said the movie was close to real, but it doesn't quite do the madness on the ground justice. He was in the group that went in to get the downed flyers. Crowds throwing rocks, people firing from buildings, our guys in unarmored vehicles shooting back while under orders to shoot no civilians. He said it was pretty hard to tell who was and who wasn't a civilian.

Ah yes, Christi Craddick for RR Commissioner, inexplicably attacking Obama.
Funny story about those "small-government" Republicans: When her daddy Tom was Speaker, he was (rightfully) covered under the health insurance plan for state employees, as was Christi since she was his dependent. But the plan only allowed you to carry a dependent until they turned 25. (Just like Obamacare!) Well, little Christi didn't have her own health insurance when she turned 25, so daddy sponsored and got a bill passed that would allow children of state employees to continue on state health insurance so long as they paid the premium.
So essentially, non-state-employees could be on the state health insurance (and filing claims which presumably would drive up overall plan costs) and all they paid was the premium the state paid for health insurance -- which was much lower than what an individual would pay because it was a group rate. I was working at the state agency that administered the state health insurance, and this became known as "the Christi Craddick rule." Because of the adverse affect this would have on the plan, we were instructed not to advise anyone that it existed, and only answer questions about it if asked. Essentially, it became a "secret" perk for those who knew to ask for it.
Because, you know, the first Republican Speaker in 100 years was fighting for smaller government unless it meant having to take his baby daughter off the state's health insurance. Why should she have to find her own and pay individual rates like the little people?
I'm thinking the only way Obama attacked Christi is by not offering a comprehensive enough universal healthcare plan...

I heard about the Mitt Romney attack piece by the Washington Post on Hannity last night (let the jokes begin - I'll ignore them). When he printed it out it was 11 pages! Then he played excerpts from Obama's autobiography where he talked about drinking and doing drugs in high school. Of course, you'll never hear that anywhere but on Hannity's show. Not a peep from the mainstream media. Here's a question for you liberals: Do you consider that fair reporting? Is that bias not as obvious as the nose on your face?

BlackHawk Down is a great read. Glad you are moving through it. If at the end you only remember a few things from it, remember Shugart and Gordon. There are many to brave deeds we need to remember from that day. But never forget the story of those two soldiers.

On the Democrat side, the pictures behind the candidate illustrated people in distress and poverty. The Republican candidate reflected upon prosperity in the pics behind him.

I had forgotten the sweetheart insurance deal Ms. Craddick, thanks to Papa, received from the People of Texas. Surprised it didn't get more play in the press at the time. That was also about the same time that Tom slid through legislation on Cap Rock Energy, which his daughter worked for as a lobbyist, that gave them a protected higher rate not under review by the PUC. Real backroom politics stuff. Just keeping it all in the family, I guess.

Meanwhile Obama's economy goes deeper into the mess, he's managed the miracle of damping support from black voters, and the investigations are heating up on the various scandals in his administration. Obama's going to need Elvis to keep Americans from seeing all of that.

As for Obama's economy, just recall that this congress has been ham-strung with Republican use of procedural rules in the Senate that stop anything that might actually improve the economy. Recall that Sen Mitch McConnell (R) has stated that defeating Obama is job No. 1 - NOT improving the economy.
