Random Thursday Morning Thoughts

  • Looking at the tornado damage under the light of the next day was just jaw dropping. I'll repeat what everyone else says: It's a miracle no one died.
  • When a first responder declines to be called a hero and instead says, "I was just doing my job", I always tend to agree.
  • The Star-Telegram has a story of a man being released early from probation. That hardly ever happens in Wise County. In fact, I refuse to be hired on those cases since I think the chances of success are basically non-existent.
  • Yep, the Frisco girl kidnapped-and-taken-to-Oklahoma story has faded into oblivion.
  • Mrs. LL, who is still kind of new to softball, beaned the Third Grader In The House last night while playing catch in the back yard. Said Third Grader acted like she had been hit by a sniper. Good times.
  • Motorcycle death in Richardson last night.
  • The Rangers today unveil the statue of the guy who died when he fell over the railing last year. I just don't understand that.
  • Every year the Augusta National Golf Club comes under criticism about its discriminatory practices in selecting its members. And every year they bring out some boob who absolutely butchers a press conference because he simply can't say, "We are a private organization in America and, just like you have the absolute right to decide who enters your home, we have the right to choose our members."
  • American Airlines still has 63 planes out with hail damage and 323 flights have been cancelled for today. What a headache.
  • Description of Mrs. LL trying to catch fly balls: Get underneath it, hold glove out, do a crazy dance where her feet look like fast moving pistons, and then get out of the way while laugh-screaming. (In all fairness, she got the hang of it shortly thereafter.)
  • President Obama's statement that the Supreme Court overturning a law "passed by a strong majority of a democratically elected Congress" would be "an unprecedented, extraordinary step" was reckless and can't be defended. I tried to parse it in such a way that it makes sense but couldn't do it. (That being said, the federal judge on the 5th Circuit who took umbrage to the remark is a nutcase.)
  • For me, I think we are in the middle of the best three weather days of the year. I wish Texas was like this year round.
  • Hey, Liberally Lean Tourney Winners, I'm getting the prize selections of winners 1-3 and then I'll move on to 4-6. I have not pocketed the prizes and fled to Costa Rica. Considered it, yes. Done it, no.

Barry, the Masters can't say that because it would put CBS in an awkward position relative to the advertisers and viewers.

Not inviting the CEO of IBM is going to be a mistake if they want to maintain the tournament.

You can't scream freedom and privacy and then turn around and promote yourself as the host of the premier tourney in the world.

Jobless claims at lowest level in 4 years; economy adding jobs compared to losing over 500K per month 4 years ago, oil production up, manufacturing up, Obama has extended lower income tax rates and cut payroll taxes, Obama is proposing a cut in corporate tax from 35 to 28 percent, Dow above 13K.

Stop the Socialism!

You boys just don't understand. It's tradition. Plus those people don't blend in. Honey, pass me a julep.

LL: You accept cases based on the odds of winning?
What happened to based on need/justice/everyone deserves the best defense/etc.?
Oh, maybe it never was really that way. Silly me.

First responders are heroes. Not because of one daring act, but because they dedicate their lives to helping others.

"Yep, the Frisco girl kidnapped-and-taken-to-Oklahoma story has faded into oblivion."

Yeah, kidnapping and rapes of white women by black men is so common its not really news worthy. The poor little girl probably has AIDS/HIV now after being raped by the black animal. Just like the rape of the eleven year old hispanic girl by the eighteen black thugs in Cleveland, Texas last year has been ignored by the main stream media. The last I heard about it, the black animals were blaming the gang rape on the little girl.

Filthy niggers.

Now, let's be fair, folks--did you notice that Barry CRITICIZED Obama? That's Barry's BS meter at work.

BG - Please ban Big (Hate) Tex from commenting on your blog. The venom that he/she/it spews is sickening.

Obama tried to strong arm the SCOTUS, and the blowback was swift and severe. What was more interesting was watching Jay Carney try to convince the world that what Obama said was not what Obama said. However, Obama got what he wanted -- his mainstream media water carriers like Maureen Dowd reinforced his misinformation, so that Obama supporters can now blame someone besides him and congressional Democrats for Obamacare's failure. (Wanna bet we hear a version of "I gave y'all healthcare and the Supreme Court took it away!")

Pretty sure Big Tex's comments are satire, no?

"The Rangers today unveil the statue of the guy who died when he fell ..." Seems like they found a way to avoid a big fat, ugly lawsuite?

Huh. Bush would never do such a thing, right wordkyle? I mean, in the interest of the "good for the goose" complaint you've been parroting the last couple of days...

http://theusconstitution.org/text-history/432

That meshes nicely with Bush's flip flop on gay marriage that you so heavily denied.

Oh yeah--Reagan did the same thing:

http://mediamatters.org/research/201001290019

And remind me again, what does every right-winger say about the Right to Privacy? That it doesn't exist because it's not in the Constitution, even though the Supreme Court says it does?

Stop lying, wordkyle.

Justice Roberts is going to lead the charge in upholding Obamacare.

The indivudual mandate was touted by the Heritage Foundation for years as the conservatives preferred alternative to single payor. Roberts and other conservatives will see that single payor is politically inevitable if Obamacare is overturned. And politically it is in conservatives' best interest if Obamacare is upheld.

Rage, in your 11:10 comment you are heavily involved in what you have been so derisively critical of others doing on this blog, i.e. changing the subject to avoid addressing the point. Are you saying it's OK for Obama to do it because you allege someone else did it?
Oh, no, I didn't think you would do that.
So what is your point? Are you opposed to the behavior, or are you just opposed to Republicans doing it?

First responders - Disagree
Statue - Agree
Augusta - That's where I am right now. PITA and I don't mean bread or naked supermodels.
American Airlines - Aircraft out of service means it's more difficult for me to get to work and home. Sucks
Mrs. LL catching fly balls - hope you got video, sounds hilarious.
President Obama's statement - Par for the course. Change the change.
Weather - Augusta in the 80's today, 50's for the weekend. Please, no more rain, I don't want to spend another day here.
Liberally Lean Tourney - I put sports on TV. I don't watch sports unless there's a pay check attached. Glad you enjoy it but I really don't care.

I'm pretty sure LL doesn't take those cases because he considers it a waste of client's money because you can't win that kind of case in Wise Co.

Statue for me I'm a hero I went to work today.. And yes my wife prays for me every day. I'm not a first responder but can I please be a hero. Why cant we all be heros? or do we have to die then we become a hero?

11:34--It looks to me like he's just playing wordy's game. And better than wordy does.

Wordy's ignorance has been rubbed in his face all week and all he does is call people trolls. That's pretty chickenshit.

I think I remember a little leaguer that played outfield back in 70's that ran in on every fly ball hit to him with his glove high over his head regardless of where the ball was hit.

Thank you 1:07!

As usual the TRUTH prevails.

1:21 - Oh, Wordy is smart. He has a really good understanding of how to use somebody else's thoughts for his own.

Last three words of your post.......right on!

Anonymous said...

Wow. Wordkyle seems to have the most logical arguments on this website and all you libs think he is dumb. Now I know why we are in the shape we are in as a country. You people have somehow managed to gain control and are destroying us from within. The commies couldn't have planned it better.

12:52,

There are plenty of volunteer fire departments that need people. Feel free to join one. Then maybe you'll get it.

Never mind. If you have had the integrity or fortitude, you would have done it already.

Sorry, go back to your bubble.

Just as the saying goes...no one appreciates a cop or firefighter or medic until they are getting their arse beat, their house is burning down, or need their wounds mended from getting their arse beat. BG I bet the folks in line for these treatments would give you cuts if you asked nicely. Gutless coward paper pusher!

The libs on here do not think WK is dumb, they are scared of him because he is not. When faced with an educated adversary, the immediate defense mechanism for any lib is to shout obscenities, resort to name calling, call you dumb or gay, or straw-man their way out of the original topic. Just look at every response to any post WK makes, libs seems to follow this same pattern of behavior without fail. They are not interested in the facts, they just attempt to shout you down...in their world being loudest and most arrogant trumps all truth.

3:12 and 3:59 - not all of us Democrats on here dislike Wordy's wisdom words - we just don't love him as much as he loves himself and his inability to EVER change the subject.

Is bashing the United States President all he is capable of discussing and bashing?

wordkyle said...

437 - "...as much as he loves himself..." Really? That's an interesting perception you have. Where'd you get it? (And I have bashed lots and lots of Liberal Democrats over the years. Obama just makes a ridiculously easy target of himself.)

Nobody appreciates a truck driver or a farmer until they need a load of rock or something to eat so are they HEROs too.
Yes I did the hero stuff when I was younger. prayin.

Anonymous said...

5:48,

They are very important, but no one hands them a dead baby and begs them to save them. On the worst day of your life, you will not be looking for a farmer or truck driver to restore normalcy to your life.

People in public safety and the military are heroes because they choose to protect their fellow man versus pursuing personal gain.

The days of powerful unions, high pay, and great benefits are long gone. Personnel in the public sector make far less and have far worse benefits than employees of the private sector.

I have met many people in public safety who have BA's, MBA's, and PhD's, who refuse to leave their position to seek employment for higher wages. Their dedication to protecting their fellow man is that strong.

They risk their lives to save people like you and your family because the majority of the population will not. Most people will stand back and watch. It is not a cliche, it is the truth. If it wasn't, we wouldn't need police, fire, or EMS.

That is why they are heroes. If you are an adult and don't understand that, I truly feel sorry for you.

Many people have taken advantage of unemployment that even the dems can't extend it.That would count for a lot of the stats.Probably still not working at a real job.Hell,i'm old wore out and still get offered real employment but never drew unemployment after my first job.
