Senior Citizens Whack Kid With Golf Ball Retriever -- Now With Video

NWF - Two 71-year-old men have been arrested and charged with child abuse after they were accused of striking a teenager with metal golf ball retrievers. Ronald E. Richardson and Donald E. Nieto were arrested after a video of them striking the 15-year-old was shown to law enforcement by the father of the teenager, according to the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office arrest reports. The incident, which took place early Saturday afternoon at Shalimar Pointe Country Club, began after a group of four teenagers blew an air horn at golfers teeing off at the ninth hole, the report stated. According to Richardson, he and Nieto went to approach the teenagers, but they ran off. The 15-year-old eventually returned because he had left his jacket behind. When he did, the two men “responded by striking (the teenager) with the golf ball finder to keep him from being able to pick up his jacket,” the report stated. Richardson said he hit the teen three or four times on “his back side area … and maybe on his arm.

These two events should cancel each other out, right? The old "airhorn during the backswing" trick has some solid comedy merit. Heck, the use of an airhorn in any practical joke normally makes it a pretty good practical joke. But if you're going to do it to a couple of 71 year olds, you know there's a chance they are going to play whack-a-mole with you if they catch you. It's a basic risk/reward analysis.

When I first read the story, I thought the kid had left the jacket and came back for it like an hour later -- all the while the golfers were hiding in some nearby bushes. That would've been awesome.

Kids deserved it, then these grandpas should've kicked their parents' ass for raising stupids kids....just saying.

I bet they don't jack with the old men anymore. The most screwed up part of this story is that the dad went to the cops. He should have told then they got what they deserved. If you play with fire sometimes you get burned.

That just gave me an idea. Put a taser on the end of a golf ball retriever.

It appears that the golfers used their retrievers to scoop up the kid's jacket - right after the horn incident. The kid came back and was poked with the retrievers - justifiably. My question - who was filming this whole process from in the trees? Stupid kids and dumb golfers. The parent should do some whacking of those kids, too.

Stupid little jerks! They needed their butts whipped. Parents-quit babying your rotten children!

So the father of one of the kids is okay with his innocent little darling pulling a prank like this on senior citizens? If my dad had found out I did that, they would have had to arrest HIM - for killing me!
If you're old enough and smart enough to pull off a prank like this, then you should have to suffer the consequences if you get caught. A few whacks from a stick seems like a pretty mild punishment. It's not like they beat him with their fists

Whack-a-mole reference - GOLD! And where was Spaulding during all of this frivolity?

Disrespectful kids. That's what our educational system is turning out these days.

Dad?

Thats how Ticer got rid of the Police Chief in Runaway Bay

Now if the kids had caused one of the old men to have a heart attack then what would have happened? I'm sure the video would have disappeared altogether.

12:51, are you remotely serious? Our EDUCATIONAL system is putting out disrespectful kids? Talk about missing the boat. Can you think...try really, really hard...of where the burden of raising respectful young people should otherwise be placed?

I don't think that this has anything to do with the educational system, but with bad parenting and not having the kids take responsibility for their actions.

If my kids brought this video to me, honestly, I would probably get a chuckle out of the prank. But I would have LMAO at them getting beat. And told them they got what they deserved. No way would I have reported it to the police.

12:51 you need your ass whipped with a ball retriever. Educators have been some hamstrung by lawyers and lawsuits that they can't lay a hand on kids. Thats one reason nearly all campuses have a cop on duty these days. I was in a local high school a couple of years ago. I was talking with the principal who saw a young man out in the halls when he should have been in class, When she told him to go to class he told her to F off. She grabbed her radio and asked the officer to come take care of it.
You realy show your ignorance when you blame the schools. Parents are responsible for their kids behavior.

I think we have a break in the case of the Runaway Bay golf mugger.

I see people in the YouTube comments saying it was just a prank and he didn't deserve to get beaten. That's the point, when you screw with someone you don't know what they will do. Will they just yell at you or will they pull out a gun? Unless they have video of blowing the air horn at a group of college football linemen while they are golfing I'll assume they knew there was some risk of retaliation and specifically picked on an elderly group.

I'm really bummed about the sheriff's office though. They should have told the father,"Thank you for bringing this to our attention we will go arrest these men right away. But first we are going to need to know the names of all the minors that were involved in the prank so that we can charge them and your son for disorderly conduct and trespassing". Instead we have the justice system tied up by some elderly people who just wanted to be left alone while they played golf.

Also, the teen had a video that showed him harassing elderly people, screwing up the prank by leaving his jacket, and then getting his ass handed to him by a couple of guys 50 years his senior. I would have erased that as soon as I could out of sheer embarrassment. The last thing I would want to do would be to show it to anyone, let alone my father.

Little basturds got what they deserved. I doubt they were even hurt. The father was wrong to defend his kid. In truth though, the seniors could have laughed it off just to show the kids how to take the high road.

When the school system is constantly telling kids that their parents are wrong about everything, then yest, I put a large point of the blame on the school system. They teach kids that they deserve a trophy just for showing up, that a D is just as good as and A if you try hard, etc... Who else would be to blame?

Those telescopic ball retrievers are flimsy as can be. They barely hold the weight of a golf ball when extended over 12 feet. The old guys broke their retrievers over the kid's body, and likely lost their ball to boot. The kid caused them to kick the ball into the brush.

Seems to me that the geezers suffered greater harm than the kid.

While I think it's a stupid case, and the boys got no worse than they deserved, I think that the easiest way to "go through the motions" and fix this case would be to submit it to grand jury, and let them no-bill it.

3:40pm, You have no clue regarding today's public education. Schools do not put out disrespectful kids. Crappy parents do. And we have plenty.

I agree re:the dad of the 15 Y.O. What a puss. My dad never had a problem disciplining me for the stupid things I did regularly at that age.

Ball retrievers? Hilarious! Best thing you've ever posted!!! One could barely kill a cockroach with a ball retriever!
That boy is lucky they didn't use their 3 woods.
The smirk on that golfer's face on the right is priceless. I know they ain't never buying a drink at the gold club again. The clubhouse heroes!

In the old days your neighbors took you to your parents house by the ears and then you were in trouble again. Now they call it child abuse...
The prank and their reaction, PRICELESS.
If the father was smart he'd sale it to golf retriever maker's...

All of you who are in support of the golfers must have never pulled a teenage prank.

Second, if you pay attention, he was on the other side of the fence on PRIVATE residential property. There are no laws that prevent me or you from blowing an air horn in our yard in the middle of the day.

The golfers were in the wrong.

Everybody carries a gun... act like it!

9:46 -

You're damn right we pulled pranks - every one of us. And I'm betting every one of us got caught at some point. But going to our daddy crying that we got hit with a ball retriever by a 70 year old man isn't exactly "manning up", and makes you a big ol' pussy.

BTW, the golfers were right. I only hope I get the opportunity to lay a few licks on some smartass kid when I'm that age!

I'm a fairly liberal guy... But that kid got what he deserved. Maybe if his daddy did the right thing, he would have been doing something more useful than bothering a couple of geezers.
