A 4-year-old boy was critically injured when he was run over by a lawn mower in an accident about noon Friday in New Fairview. Sheriff’s Office Investigator Josh Reynolds said the boy was walking behind a riding mower as his grandfather cut the grass. When he turned the mower, he didn’t see the boy, running over him. When paramedics arrived, the child was conscious but trapped under the mower from the chest down. He was flown to Cook Children’s Hospital in Fort Worth with lacerations to his stomach and left leg. Paramedics said his injuries are not life-threatening.
YOWZAThe post before this one? We've Got A Dead KidWierd
The lawnmower was still on the boy when paramedics arrived??? I would think the first thing you would do is get that thing off of him. A riding lawnmower is not that heavy. Maybe it was a small tractor?
1:22 -thanks for continuing with that stereotype. Happened to me as a kid...sorta. Before I lived here. Cousin, brother, and I were goofing around on the riding mower. Cousin hits the brake suddenly and I take a tumble. When I get up off the sidewalk I got tire tracks on my shirt.Okay, that could have easily happened here, but it was in Harris County - Houston. Hope the kid's okay
The Messerupper Update said in the first line that the boy was "critically" injured and in the last line said his injuries are not life threatening. Which is it. Do they not understand the meaning of critically injured? What a joke of a "Newspaper".
When I was a little girl I was riding on the back of my dad's riding mower and jumped off and he didn't realize it and he backed up over me. All I got what was a small cut on my leg. Can't see how this could be that bad and why they couldn't get the mower off the kid. ????
Injuries non-life threatening? That is a miracle.
This story is going to get very popular. I predict GMA and the whole late night talk show works.People just love a good "kid run over by a lawnmower" story. I know I do.Back in the day a guy got rid of a litter of kittens by burying them with only their heads sticking out, then mowing them. That one was hot on the circuit too. Back then.
3:46 and 2:45 you are both idiots. Are you both able to walk and chew gum at the same time? Read the news 8 story. His leg was amputated so obviously it was that bad. And did you ever think that a full size riding law mower with a kid tangled up in the blades might be a bit heavy for one old man to lift. Not to mention if he is caught up in the blade and you move it you could cause further damage. Why not do what you can for the kid and wait until the professionals arrive who can better assess his needs and remove him safely and treat him. I bet you are both dumb enough to remove an impaled object in some bodies chest too. Idiots. How about you don't go around making stupid comments without having any knowledge of the situation, how it occurred, or what it takes to rescue and treat that type of patient.
BTW I have seen those types of accidents where I live and sometimes it is a simple injury and sometimes it is tragic. To think that because your situation turned out ok everyone's should and that it is inconceivable for it to happen any other way is the height of ignorance. "Well Bob down the street had a heart attack and he lived so I just don't understand how Jim died from his. Just doesn't make sense."
in this accident the mower might have been doing more good on top of the kid then if it was taken off any idiot knows that you never remove things that are impaled in the body until the paramedics arrive. this is a simple case of stupid people not following safe mowing practices first there is only one seat therefore only one operator no passengers as it states in the owners manual
Simmer down there, Consilium. Not everyone possesses your remarkable intellect. Please, by all means, continue to enlighten us with your wisdom.
Why thank you 3:03. I appreciate your sarcastic words of encouragement. I generally try to limit my comments on this blog realizing that my beliefs and train of thought are vastly different from those like the two I mentioned earlier. Sometimes the ignorance expounded as fact here is too much and I feel the need to point it out.
I am so sorry for the little 2 year old getting hurt...it is horrible. The grandfather is very very wrong to allow the child to be anywhere around when he is cutting grass. I will not allow my dog to be in the yard or on the porch while my hubby is mowing. Rocks can be thrown out of the mower, not to mention what happened to the little boy.
I'd give him a hand, but what he really needs is a leg.
