Breaking: This Case Just Resolved

The arrest occurred in September of 2009, but it has just been resolved by a negotiated plea this morning in the district court in Decatur.

Although eligible for probation, the sentence was 6 years in the penitentiary.

Oddly, Bridgeport High still has him listed on its web site. Edit: It looks like it has now been removed but part of it is still available via Google's cached copy.

Is there something in the water? Wasn't a Perrin teacher arrested for "extra credit assignments" with a couple of school boys recently? Man, lot more action in public schools these days. Seems that every student needs to be issued a school handbook, their class schedule, and a case of Trojans at the beginning of the year.

That ought to teach him a lesson.

Dear Teachers/ Coaches:

Don't screw your students. It makes you a child molester.

I've been thinking about enhancing my sex life....I'm going to become a high school teacher!

He was a fine young man that made a TERRIBLE mistake. My heart goes out to all parties involved.

Anonymous said...

He was obviously NOT a FINE man...he was a SICK man (or he wouldnt be in this situation:))!!

I know the victim and the family personally. She will overcome this and do great things in life, guaranteed! My heart goes out to both of the families.

There are many teachers who understand the law, but more importantly, who understand the professional ethics of not "touching" students! Any teacher who has sex with any student has crossed the line of both law and ethics. Those teachers deserve jail time.

3:13, While you were forming your opinon of this fine young man, he was thinking of, and acting on plans to have sex with a student. Wake up, it is people like you that give some young men a sense of hero status. That is, you are great no matter what you do because of who you are. He is not a fine young man, you just think he is, and as made clear today, you are wrong. I suspect that he had been told his whole life that he was a "fine young man" in spite of being average at best.

He will have a nice little vacation in Huntsville...Sleep tight, while it still is......

He taught Video technology? ReallY? Maybe he should have taught a class on Ethics

"Fine young man"???? He is OLDER than the victim. His job means that the kids TRUST him. He is a stupid IDIOT. This happened to me over 40 years ago as a child. The victim never forgets. The pervert was just looking for sexual pleasure at the victim's expense. If he had done this to MY daughter, he would have been castrated before the police got involved. I can guarantee this wasn't his first, nor will she be his last.

Hey, let's not race to judgement on someone else too quickly. I'm just saying he comes from a fantastic family (mother is a local teacher)and that he made a dumb mistake and now he's going to pay for it. He isn't a pervert, he's not an idiot, he isn't a hero, he's not sick, he doesn't deserve to loose his balls either! I pray for healing on both sides of this tragedy!

Ok, I'm sorry.. but it takes TWO to tango.. I was a student of his and he was one of my coaches. Never did he ever do anything in appropriate. I'm not defending him in the least, but what about the "victim"? It's not saying he raped her.. It's saying they had an innapropriate relationship. Who's to say she didn't seduce him? Like i said, not defending him in the least.. but there's two sides to every story!

10:16 thank you for your courage.

I am right there with you.

Whats that saying...Hide your wives hide your kids ?? hide your husbands

he has a lot of family/extended family in the teaching system in bport and if thats how they are raised then the above saying should be the caption above all their photos in the year book :)

10:16, thank you for speaking up. I've been biting my tongue to keep from saying the exact same thing.

Anonymous said...

1:54 that's ridiculous and not the least little bit funny.

According to the law it doesn't matter if he was seduced. The student may share the blame but her part in this is not criminal. I'm pretty sure he knew of the law before he CHOSE to break it. The student made a mistake (kids of that age don't alway use the best judgement) but he committed a crime. He crossed a line that 99% of the teachers would never consider crossing. By doing so he negates the efforts of so many teachers who strive to have a meaningful yet appropriate relationship with their students.

10:16 -- Couldn't have said it better ..................

Can I assume all the people speaking such negative and hateful things lead a life filled without mistakes and perfect family members.
God sees all sin simply as sin, period.
That young man will serve his time but I am sure carry the pain of his mistake for the rest of his life.
Sadly we are all so quick to judge others wrong choices but we only deceive ourselves if we feel we live a perfect life.

1:54 That is the most ignorant thing have ever heard....

Anonymous said...

For all you people saying that the student seduced or is to blame is the most ludicrous thing I have ever heard!! You all are idiots if you truly believe that and clearly you don't know the whole story because trust me if you did you would not be backing up a convicted sexual predator!! Don't you think if it wasn't that bad he would not have agreed to 6 years in prison?!?!? It is because it was that bad yes he is from a great family and he had put them through hell but he made the choice and now he will pay! Hope he gets everything he deserves!

Anonymous said...

THANK YOU 10:16 - And not any of us on this board can claim total perfection of character. Not one.

And somebody in our own family just might be next.

Anonymous said...

3:20 I agree…
Not only will the offender and victim carry the pain of his actions but their families also. So those who actually know them need to encourage them because I am sure all of their lives have been turned upside down during all of this. There are many people who go to prison for a number of things from murder to those who beat their spouses or children, the eyes of the Lord see them all as sin. How can we ask forgiveness if we are not capable of forgiving those around us.

Hey 9:51, he too was a "local teacher". Any adult that preys upon a young person does not deserve an ounce of sympathy until he does his time, gets out and proves that he is a changed man. Maybe when he gets out, some of you that want to vouch for his character can give him a job,let him coach your daughters softball team, take your youth group on an over night trip.........

Anonymous said...

Will he begin his sentence on probation and go to prison if he violates his terms of probation?

Anonymous said...

7:35, that's a great reply to all the ones defending his actions! For those of you who blame the victim? That went out in the 70's. In a previous post, I mentioned earlier that this happened to me. I was SIX years old. Back then those things were "Swept under the rug." As an adult I often wonder how many more poor kids were assaulted by that perv.
Worlow IS a pervert and pedophile. Otherwise he wouldn't be serving 6 years in prision. So go ahead, blame the victim, you idiots.

Anonymous said...

No he is going straight to prison! Huntsville!
8:15pm

Sure are a bunch of idots in Bridgeport. If you blame him, your an idoit. If you blame her, your an idoit.

He had sex with a 17+ yr. old student who was in his class room alot!!!!!!!!!
She had sex with a young man that she cling to way toooo much??????
Teacher/Honor Student, smart people.
I think they both made some bad choices.
He will be the one paying for it the rest of his life.

Anonymous said...

6:38, There is a big difference between 6 yrs. old and 16 (almost 17)yrs. old. It was consensual!! He made a HORRIBLE mistake!! But 6 yrs. in prison is unfair, not justice!!

A 16 year old STUDENT (victim) vs a 30+ year old married MAN (criminal) with children of his own AND a trusted educator of students. Some of these post confuse me. I realize everyone is entitled to their own opinion, after all this is a BLOG. But, there is a reason there is a LAW against such things. IT IS WRONG and only one person broke the law and is a criminal and will now pay for the crime. There is no gray area here, it is black and white.... it is the LAW! You people that seem to think this is some how Okay and that it is in anyway the VICTIMS fault... well, I guess you people need to blame the judicial system and be upset with the laws that are written to help protect our children in this country.
