There was a picture of a crying Texas coed on the internet a few years ago with the caption "but we're Texas!" Looks like you could add the caption to this picture. Longhorn fans think they are entitled to win.
Texas is the ONLY football program to win at least 10 games every season since 2001. Winning is fun, so yea it's fun to be a Longhorn fan. We win a lot & we have a good time going to the games or watching them with friends and family at home.
Because we win a lot, people who are not UT fans, get envious of that and love to see us lose. I understand that. I like to see Alabama lose; I like to see OU lose.
No one's "entitled" to win - that's why we play the games. But if you want to use another word - you would be correct - we do EXPECT to win partly because historically, we do...... uh WIN. And we get used to it. We love it.
That can sometimes be a burden that the football program carries. Mack Brown has spoken of times when we won, but he and the team weren't happy about how much they won by so they wouldn't really celebrate the win. ANd he changed that & said they would be celebrating every win, because, you know, - winning is the goal.
So take this next little piece of information - I'm sure it will make you happy - When we lose, it hurts, REALLY hurts.
We expect to win because the great program at UT has given us that luxury. I greatly appreciate that emotionally and financially. It's fun to be a Longhorn fan. I wouldn't want to trade places with any other program.
Gilbert has 9 turnovers in 4 games. National Title is out of reach, so go ahead and bench him and put in your true freshman and start preparing for the next national title.
Hey Bubba, you said, "It is what it is! No excuses! Never thought this would be an outstanding year...the year of rebuilding (but that's all it will take)!
No excuses? No excuses??!!!!
What is that "the year of rebuilding" comment?
Rebuilding from what? A change of coaching??? no
A poor recruiting class??? no
A change of offensive philosophy??? uh, no
Scandal and loss of scholarships??? not that either.
UT gets beat and the first things you teasips start doing is offering up excuses. First sign of a bunch of losers.
10:08, 3:37 & 12:06 type of comments about UT are laced with bitterness; there's not even a little bit of a sense of humor or fun in them.
Barry's comments about UT (Evil Empire, etc), on the other hand, express his dislike for the Horns with a sense of humor fully in evidence. They are fun to read. It's opponents like BG that put the E in the Entertainment of sports.
It's even funnier listening/reading comments from somebody that got their UT fan tshirt free at wal-mart talk about the UT football program in the first person. I say that because so few of the UT fans 1. ever went there or know where the campus is 2. realize that UT is driving the cost of public undergrad and post-grad education up everyday 3. Take more money from taxpayers for lower percentage directed back to each student 4. has an athletic dept. which profited over $55M last year yet put not a dime back to making education more accessible to students by lowering costs 5.Is the most liberal public university in the state.
Ut is a monster of a financial drain on our educational system as they chomp up money yet deliver very little in terms of actual educational access per dollar. The Tech and A&M systems have been far more accessible in this regard. Not to mention Tech does it with zero money from the PUF. (Permanent University Fund) which only A&M and UT have access to. (Suffice it to say it is worth millions per year to those two schools) UT is a wolf in sheep's clothing. It may feel good to say you "love your horns" but that system is invading your wallet and mine with a bad return in product.
Well, this game showed that the faghorns are overrated once again. How does a team start out at 6 or 7 with a inexperienced quarterback? Well, t.u. is always overrated, in every sport. I'd like to know how many posters on this site actually went to t.u. I bet none, maybe one. I actually went to A&M so I can be a fan. All others are poseurs. Poseurs can't comment or claim to be fans. You never set foot on the campus, much less graduated from high school. So trade your ugly burnt orange t-shirts in for some Wise County high school t-shirts.
Hey Roy Williams, why did you show off the longhorn hand sign when u scored the touchdowns? You aren't at t.u. anymore. This is the Dallas Cowboys. Grow up and stop living in the past.
You're misinformed 8:19 - Between my spouse & I we have 5 generations of our family that graduated from UT. It was very good return on our money. Have you not noticed that UT is in the elite status of Universities in the South?
Plus, the McCombs Graduate School Of Business (PPA program) is among an elite 5 every year, NATIONWIDE. I could look up all the rankings but it would take too much of my time and your mind is already set anyway. Little things like facts would not change your mind.
If you can get in, you would find it a very good return on your money. Is that the problem? YOu can't get in? There are many, many capable students that get turned down every year just because so many apply. It's a good problem for a university to have and one that keeps those that do get in giving extra effort to maintain their place.
3:37 said "A change of offensive philosophy??? uh, no"
Actually, yes, there has been a change in philosophy, well documented actually. When you go from a NCAA-career 70% passer like Colt McCoy to someone a little less, um, accurate (trying to be nice) you have to. The coaches have made it clear that the focus would be more on establishing a running game this year. Having said that, it's not a 22-point difference.
You can say it's rebuilding when you have the most productive QB/WR combination in school history graduate. I think most Horn fans are giving Gilbert the year (for now.)
Finally, and this isn't addressed to 3:37 but to yet another nameless poster, 8:19: I am sick and *&$(#( tired of this crap about how you have to go to a school to be a fan. Since when?!?! When I graduated high school, I wanted nothing more than to fly fighter jets (I'm in that impressionable Top Gun generation.) Unfortunately for me, UT has no flight program comparable to the Air Force Academy, so I chose that route instead. I still root for Air Force, but my heart has always and will always bleed orange. I went to school in Decatur, but my kids will most likely graduate from Paradise. I guess this means I will never be able to cheer for my kids in whatever sports they choose to play. I guess I can stop rooting for the Cowboys too because I've never lived in Dallas, Irving, or Arlington.
Between the spouse & I, we have 5 generations of UT grads in our immediate family, including both of us.
But who cares if you don't go to a school that you support with your time, energy, & money? Why does that make such a difference? I've always thought that was rather a snobby approach.
I have die-hard friends that never went to UT because they could not afford it then, but in the last 15 years at least, they go to EVERY single football game, including all the away games That's a fan.
Diplomas are NOT checked at the door.
And 10:40 - why does it bug you so much that Roy Williams is proud of where he came from? Most of us that came through UT remember it fondly and remain loyal.
Once again - so much bitterness on this post against UT. As I asked before (6:52), where's your sense of play? This is entertainment you know. Get over your bitterness and have some fun. Quit letting UT have such control over you that your spirit appears shriveled and negative.
My team loss BIG to an underdog this weekend and it appears I am in better spirits than you are. THe only team that can make me sad as you guys is my own team when they lose. But then again, I don't think I am as sad as you guys now.
10:38.... whats it matter if someone didnt go to school at UT? cant someone still be a fan even if they didnt go to school there?? are you a fan of any Pro sports?? u didnt play for that team so why are you a fan?
Well played 10;47. You may well be one of the few brash fans that went to UT. It is odd that you talk about them in the first person, but whatever.
You avoided my points 2,3 ,4 & 5. UT is the most liberal university on the public dime here in our state. And for those friends of yours that are fans but couldn't afford to go to UT, shouldn't some of hte $55M profit from athletics go back to helping exactly those people get educated?
For every tax dollar that UT takes in, a lower percentage of it goes to class room instruction or lab instruction than for A&M, Tech, North Texas, Houston, or Sam Houston. They pawn off more govt expansion jobs for multicultural centers etc.. that have extremely low student participation, yet they pushed very hard for degreulation of tuition. Now they are far and away more expensive than 5 years ago, with the rest of our public universities being forced to charge more as well.
I know about the good ratings on schools at our universities throughout this state. I was recruited by scholarship incentives to attend many of them. I was even accepted to UT... but I chose not to go there.
I just find it ironic that somany people will blindly trust and throw money at a university that will never give them a chance, or help make education more affordable/accessible.
You mean Texas recruited badly when choosing the Gilbert kid? Uh no, highly rated QB, top recruit, just like Texas gets at all positions every year.
The only thing that remains the same at ut is the whining and excuses and assumed entitlement and shear disbelief that the mighty shorthorns can actually get beat by the inferior teams of the world. But you can, and you did, and you will again.
And we all just sit around and chuckle at your arrogance. Go Soooners! Go Huskers! Let's all relish the comments coming from a soon-to-be 3-3 shorthorn record.
College sports is a very competitive sport..to think a team could "never" lose and be hated on so badly when they do, it is utterly ridiculous! When a team loses great junior and senior players to the NFL, of course there is a rebuilding process...no excuse..it's a fact!
I have been a Longhorn fan since as far back as I can remember. I have probably over 20 longhorn tshirts, a pair of longhorn houseshoes, a longhorn robe, a longhorn flag, a longhorn gnome, Longhorn Christmas tree ornaments, and on and on...People like you will never change my mind of what team is in my heart. Nobody will ever tell me who I have the right to root for in sports.
At least the Longhorn fans' comments on this post are honest. All of you on this post who are negative and hateful, I don't see what team you are claiming...are you scared?
3:37 - O Who?
Oh yea - I got a new tshirt last weekend in Austin and this is what the back says:
TEXAS LONGHORNS = Always Been! ou = Has Been A&M = NEVER BEEN!!!!!!!!!
8:56 - You went to high school right? Let's say your high school was Decatur HS; when Decatur HS played Bridgeport HS, did you not call Decatur HS YOUR team? Did you not say for example - "We just scored.... We won (or lost) the game......."
How is that different from me speaking of the team that plays for the school I attended for 4 years, graduated from, and have been a fan of all my life in the first person?
It's odd to me that you find that odd.
And BTW, PUF was created in order to create " a university of the first class" in Texas, ie - UT.

Big sale on burnt orange at Wal-Mart and Cracker Barrell!!!
10:08 - I disagree. Here's why -

I love how quiet it was in the 4th quarter at whatever their stadium is called.
Nothing more satisfying than seeing loud-mouthed Longhorn fans silenced. They rival Tech fans for sheer classlessness.
Gilbert has 9 turnovers in 4 games. National Title is out of reach, so go ahead and bench him and put in your true freshman and start preparing for the next national title.

Best comment seen to date.
Winning programs draw much envy from those who don't.
Their envy is only second to their feeling of inferiority.
