Random Monday Morning Thoughts

  • The female found along 183 in a bathing suit on Saturday night is one weird story
  • The Glenn Beck rally at the Lincoln Memorial was surprisingly free of crazy rhetoric. (I think the heat he took for scheduling on the anniversary of Martin Luther King's speech made him have more of a tone of inclusiveness.)
  • Ate at the Sushi place off Western Center Boulevard across from the BSNF headquarters on Friday. (There's another one down the street closer to I-35). Verdict: Not bad but the service was very wheels off.
  • And the Emmy's last night was surprisingly funny. (And you would have loved the opening number if you are a Glee fan.)
  • But, sheesh, there are a lot of TV shows out there.
  • I'm now in possession of the dumbest dog alive.
  • The pastor of the First Baptist Church of Dallas says Islam promotes pedophilia? Well, that should reduce tension.
  • MzChief tweaked my banner. Thanks.
  • Southlake lost to Copperas Cove on Saturday. But a 346 round trip for a high school football game?
  • That was easy money: The Bengals signed Antonio Bryant during the off season and gave him a $7 million signing bonus. Then the cut him over the weekend.
  • There are rumors that the TCU/Oregan State game at Cowboys Stadium is having trouble selling tickets. Under 30,000? Based upon the number of radio commercials, it sounds like it.

But now the Al Sharpton protest at the high school football stadium that was only half filled had all the crazy rhetoric you could handle.

TCU/OS game- that's because the tickets are outrageous! $150!! Really?? $35 for the nose bleed section. I'm their biggest fan but come on. You'll see it much better on TV. I guess they think just because they made it to a BCS bowl finally that gives them the right to charge more for tickets. Ridiculous!

Don't know how I missed the original Comment Publishing Guidelines, but I think they're kinda funny...that and having a tab for them now. Why funny? Because you seem so conflicted amidst your own rules....lol And yeah, Jar can take care of himself. X's 800.

the reason they're charging more for tickets is because of the venue, not the teams or their accomplishments last year. You can thank/blame Jerry for the outrageous prices

I believe you are referring to BNSF (Burlington Northern Santa Fe) - not BSNF

What the heck do the Bengals think Antonio Bryant ever did, or might do, to deserve a $7 mil bonus? Cray-zee! Sounds like something the aforementioned Jerry would do (or the {thankfully} former Rangers owner) to sign a spare

You really showed your ignorance with this one. Do you really have that little of a clue about Beck? Or did you just print this to get comment?

If the former, might be a good idea for you to have a watch sometime, see what he is about. Cause you do not know.

Someone needs to start over on that banner. Those rough edges look awful. It's been copied and pasted too many times.

The Baptists have always been on a permanent Jihad against everything. They can't evern get along with themselves.
Where you have two Baptists you will have a church. Where you have three Baptists you will have two churches.

MzChief has some graphics skills. Your old banner was a mess.

Jerry's got some Jonestown Coliseum debt to retire. That's why he's servicing the ticket buying masses.

Moffat County High School in Craig, CO used be in the same conference as Montezuma-Cortez High School. That's a 350 mile one-way trip for a high school football game.

Nice selection on the FSU cheerleader.

Wouldn't the more Occam's razor-ish explanation be that the Left-initiated "heat" on Glen Beck was misguided at best, and politically motivated at worst?

That Beck thing has to be frustrating for Liberals. All those Conservatives gathered and nothing for Libs to hang their hate on.

Is DISD heading in the right direction or am I disorientated?

10:41 is correct. Not only can Baptists not get along with each other, but they feel they and they alone have all the answers. They're 100% right; if you don't believe it...ask one. CONTRARY to true Christian principles of love and tolerance of ALL people, many Baptists espouse the "belief" that only those who share their limited view of deity will get into their limited idea of heaven. I shudder to listen to the small-minded rhetoric they and other churches like them spout in the name of religion.

I'm not sure I would dog pile the Baptist on this one.

Several of the West Texas schools have long drives for district games. That is why you see so many of the schools in Far West Texas owning their own charter buses.

Glen Beck is a Mormon. I think it's hilarious that all these "Christians" are such big fans of his, but wait until they figure out what the Mormons believe. Add that on top of the fact that the Saudi Prince that owns a huge piece of FOX news is funneling money to the building of the NY mosque and I bet they are going crazy trying to figure out how not to contradict themselves!!

Anonymous said...

9:53, charging more because of the venue is right. But the venue should result in a lowering of ticket prices, frankly. Going on campus to a TCU or SMU or UNT game is so much better than a half empty, cold, not very collegiate type of environment.

Isn't there a city ordinance in Decatur that states:
"If a new Baptist Church opens, both a new law firm and a new fast-food restaurant must open within 90 days."

wordkyle said...

1231 - That Saudi Prince thing has really slanted their coverage of the mosque construction, hasn't it?

And do you really have a problem with Christians who admire someone that raises money to help children of fallen soldiers, and who promotes the principles of honor, integrity, truth, faith, hope and charity?

Glenn Beck is a crook. Preying on old folks' fears that we are gonna wake up in anarchy. What a disgraced piece of garbage this Ftard is.

11:14 - about 10:41's comments. Not all Baptists have the mindsets you mention - just the absolutely radical ones. I hear from them frequently in anti-Obama, anti-Democrat, anti-Muslim forwards. I've gotten expert with the delete button.

Christ had more trouble with the self-righteous Pharisees than other groups of folks.

They lurk in all churches.

You are correct I used a LOT of copy and paste. Since you have such an eye for headers, you go ahead and submit a better one to Barry. Since you are a self-proclaimed graphics guru, please, share your insight as to how I can get the 2002 font face Padaloma, that resembles the DQ font, to load to PhotoShop CS5.

I am certain, a graphics genius, such as yourself, knows how to Google the DQ logo and a WC court house but just so you have the unique images to improve on the header, here you have them.
Speedo Dude
DQ's restrooms & catfish sign.

I look forward to seeing your header contribution to The Blog.

To Arthur...
Thank you. I really do not know much about composing graphics. I just limp around PhotoShop. I did The Blog header while riding the train from Wells, Maine to Montauk, New York. I would have liked to have gotten a sharper edge on the DQ symbol and should have added an extra .30 to the width of the image. It fit perfectly on my blog and I thought I was using the same design template.

233 - The entire content of your comment, including the link, is that you don't like Glen Beck and therefore don't like Beck's sponsor. Neither of these points makes him a "crook." Gold may or may not be a good purchase, but hawking it is not illegal and it's not unethical. Gold is regularly touted as a disaster hedge. (WSJ: "Soaring fiscal deficits favor gold.") In fact, looking at the numbers, the Goldline purchase is a bargain compared to Social Security.

So is Beck really a crook? Or is that just hyperbole you used to attack him?

I would like to work on the logo, but the "Speedo Man" link went to the font. Can you resend bikini dude, please? Also, is there a high resolution photo of the DQ sign? It's already pixelated. The root of the problem is probably not your version of Photoshop, but rather the poor quality of the photos from origination.

Don't you know, HLS is mighty proud of my Interweb, "success."...*LOL*

I am certain your handsome son has brains to spare to do very well at HLS. Believe it or not, the connections he makes will be the most uniquely valuable thing he acquires during his time at HLS.

To anonymous 5:50...
Sorry about the screwed up URL. I reGoogled the image of Speedo Dude for you.

Good luck finding a high resolution image of the DQ logo. This image is the best I could do after resizing it and removing the "Dairy Queen" text.

I watched all of the rally Saturday. It was like a big revival meeting like I attended back when I was a child. The message of restoring faith, hope and charity in our nation while honoring our founding fathers principles is needed because our country is going in the wrong direction.

By restoring honor, we can save our Republic for our children, grandchildren. Over 250 pastors, preists and church leaders joined together at the end representing millions of all faiths. The impact of people of faith united together gives me hope we can overcome any problem we may face.

Harvard Law to Wise County, just another ironic twist of fate in the human drama...the same could be said for the reverse scenario!

10:41, I am Baptist and can agree with your statement that we can't seem to all get along. I've been a member of two different Wise Co. Baptist churches that have both split TWICE. I've seen the "spin off" church of one of them also split twice! And that does make me question my choice of religious denomination. How could it not?

However 11:14, I cannot agree with you. Baptists do not believe we have all the answers. We do try to remain loyal to our faith and we do as the Bible instructs us to do, "witness to others." Now, I don't go overboard and interpret that to mean "beat people over the head until we make them become Christians!"
Frankly, I interpret that to mean "witness" or tell others about Jesus Christ and our belief system of the Baptist faith. Period.
Then, it is up to God to work on their heart and up to them to decide to either join the Christian faith or choose another. GOD GIVES US ALL FREE WILL.
So, don't fault Baptists (Christians) for "witnessing."

I enjoy being a Christian and I am proud to be Christian. But I will never FORCE my beliefs on another.... witness, yes.....

See the difference?

Have a great day!

Is that a picture of Barry wearing a Speedo while he's mowing his lawn?

I would try to make that DQ logo. The ones on the internet are not of good quality (circle stretched a bit with triangles on the sides filled with the red color) You should be able get a really close match. At least, close enough to know what it is, then go from there.
