Early random thought: Isn't "superintendent" a weird name for the head of a school district? I'd go with "President", "Chairman", "Chief" or "Supreme Leader."
Well the only people I have ever been around that are more ignorant than WC folks are Hico folks so at least he has experience with the general demographic, this should be interesting. I wish him well but we all know the shelf life is about 2 years!
He is coming from a very small school district located in a very rural area. I bet he supports sports and hopefully he will improve the educational standards at DISD. Hico can't be about spending a lot so he won't be use to having a lot of tax dollars.
If he doesn't last long, he has taken a big step toward a better paying job in a larger school district.
This could be fun! Coming from two small districts where he served both 10+ years, he has worn all the hats. He knows what a curriculum dir is supposed to know and do. He knows what a special ed director is supposed to know and do. He knows what a personnel dir is supposed to know and do. He knows a good campus leader when he sees one.
The two former educators on the board made central office types/campus leaders ever so nervous because they could detect "the spin." Now they have a boss who can detect it even better.
Maybe good days ahead for DISD! Maybe my two sons have a shot at not only playing on/in SLCarroll-like facilities but getting a SLC-like education.
10:04--I'm not 9:40, but I think you totally misunderstood the point! Sounded to me like that person was trying to be positive. No harm intended. Sounded to me like 9:40 has a clue when you read the rest of the comment! Yes, this new sup may make the rest of admin step up and give the tax payers that for which they pay!
9:40 pack your 2 spawn and get your doublwide on down to SLC and take that has been story with ya. I just wish we would go back to BLUE/WHITE B4 all the BS started
SLC doesnt have all this ag-exempted tax base. that is why their school district is better than disd. and yes, their kids turn out better - statistically speaking. and they have a better football team. and turf too.
The point of my previous post was that the Turfers are hell bent to see that we have SLC athletic facilites! Including turf and indoor practice facilities.
My hope is that a new supt who has worn the hats of Special Ed Dir, Personnel Dir, Curriculum Dir, might lead us to copy/equal SLC's academics. (Just this week recognized as one of best HS in the nation for their scores on AP and In't Bac degrees) He just might see thru the spin of principals and central office as they justify their non performance.
Athletics is going to be taken care of regardless of who is Supt. This is Texas. This is Decatur. It will take a special man to move the academic part of this equation
Regarding my double-wide you think I live in. I am not sure it really matters, but double wides aren't allowed in 7-Wires.
He sounds like a nice guy. We should welcome him and his family with open arms. Let us not prejudge this gentleman. Allow his actions to speak for his character.
A go gettter is one that goes and picks up his wife at her job at Wal-Mart after work. 3:51 Ha I have 5 wires around my D-Wide and 250 ft lot and it's paid for! how about yours. DISD school board is a f'ed up deal and I bet you voted for the 2 turf guys. what a bunc of D-bags yall are.
Rod is a great guy who cares about the kids....ALL THE KIDS!!! Why are you setting him up to fail before he has even signed his name to the contract???? No wonder most people need a passport to go back to Wise County. IT's about 10 years behind everything else in the world.......
Why from Hico? Listen, DISD already pays a dam* high salary for the superintendent's position. It chokes me to think what that salary is for one school district of Decatur's size. If you're wanting the board to hire one from a mega district, then be ready to increase the salary to a mega salary to get him to come here. No thank you! I'm just happy they chose a man who has his credentials and DOES have experience as a superintendent already. Good luck to him because he has stepped into a hot box (turf issue) and it isn't going to be a warm welcome for him if the turf issue goes through, especially since it was voted down by taxpayers.
8:18--I would ask you to post specific reasons (coming from Hico doesn't quite cut it!) Rod is not the man for the job, since it seems you know so much!

just glad it wasn't Melinda Reeves!
DAGO; He should be called a czar now according to obama.

Yep I agree with the captain. DISD will be looking again soon for another supt.
New blood = goodness!
Captain Obvious, why don't you take a hike on out of here!
Captain Obvious...........FU
I've been here a loooong time, and we've never had a superintendent last only two years.
I wish him well, and hope you all will give him a chance. He deserves the respect of the community, and I expect he'll earn it.
Master Debater of the school district.

Best Wishes!
Do they have turf in Hico?
Thought so!
This gentleman needs our prayers and support!
He seems like a nice guy.
Hopefully he will be treated with fairness.
What happened to Mrs. Reeves?
What is the over/under on his stay?
he leaves hico and goes to decatur and raises the intelligence level in both towns. amazing
CHICO?
Y'all hired a guy from CHICO??
God have mercy on his soul!
OMG! We have known Rod for years!!!! Nicest man and family you'll ever meet!!!!! I'm so surprised to seethis --had no idea!!!!!!
Wow! A superintendent who has NEVER been a coach! Former ag teacher!!!!

If SLC is so great, why don't you move there. I am tired of people who move here and then try to turn it into like where they came from...lol

11:19 - give it up. Time moves on. You need to also. You are really sweatin /obssessing the small stuff.
that superintendent i think used to play in a rock band and did these windmill type maneuvers on his guitar.

Evidently I don't write clearly!

What the heck is a "go getter?"
It sounds like something a good hound would do!

Why would the board go with this choice? He may be a very nice man, but Hico, come on!!!! The inexperience of the board is starting to show.

HORNETS NEST!
PEOPLE ARE BAILING!
You goofball. It's no hornet's nest. We have the lowest turnover rate ever at the HS.
Defensive!!!!!!
Interesting!!!!!!
Rascals!!!!!!
Dude!
You might want to think it over!
Rod is by far one of the best supts in TX and he will do an incredible job for DISD. I think it's time to give someone a chance to do their job.
