Maybe Jury's are fed up with the BS of letting people walk and then killing someone. If you get a felony DWI conviction there should be an automatic lisence revoked for a minimum of 10 years after they are released from prison. Oh, but what about taking their family places? Well, daddy or mommy shouldn't have driven drunk and risked the lives of innocent people.
This I would hope had nothing to do with the guys innability to learn the language of the country he lives in and feeds off of. I am going with the thought he was sent to prison for being an intentional idiot and not caring about killing others. And yes, I know he didn't actually kill or injure someone, but would you like to be driving on the same road with him? Ask the Argyle family that was destroyed this past weekend by a now 4 time DWI arrestee.
I think it's great. The jury served society well. Maybe we should be more strict with first time DWI's to send a message. I think if they refused to take the test they should get the max automatically upon conviction.
I agree he deserved jail, but question whether his race played a part in the fact that he received as much time as he did. His lack of being able to speak English probably didn't help his cause either.
I agree 2:24 - some will remember Saginaw as the speed trap of Texas. I'd like to see Wise County have a reputation for tough juries, especially against drunk drivers and child molesters.
I'll bet that family in Argyle wishes the drunk driver who destroyed their lives and killed their mother/wife and sister/daughter had gotten an 8 year sentence with no probation.
Hopefully this trend will continue down into the County Court for 1st and 2nd time offenders for DWI. A firm message needs to be sent. You never know, it could be you, your family, friends or someone else close to you that becomes victim to a drunk driver. Should not matter whether you are 16 or 70, a message needs to be sent. Good job to the men and women who served on the jury.
Hey 2:30, I believe that is the ultimate goal though in reality it is a goal which will never be reached. But better to have tried and failed than to never have tried at all.
Yes, the 2:30 post was an attempt at sarcasm, but I am for trying something else because the current system doesn't work:
require car companies to manufacture every vehicle with a deep lung device so they don't start unless the driver hasn't had any alcohol, and make it a felony to assist someone in starting their vehicle.
He got what he deserved no matter what his color is or what language he speaks, breaking the law is breaking the law.Boy yhat is great put the blame on the car company. Why should everyone have to hassle over a breath alizer because some people are stupid. Even Obama care can't fix stupid.
This is AMERICA an ENGLISH speaking country... if you can't speak our language, NOT OUR PROBLEM! Great Job to the JURY! If he wanted to get drunk and kill themselves, that is on them... but when they get behind the wheel of a car (weapon) and kill innocent victims... he deserves what he got!
Have u seen Jackie Murphree lately? Betty Monroe didn<t kill her but she might as well have. Drinking and driving is illegal. Period. Repeat offenders should get what they deserve.
It didn't help his case that it came out during the punishment phase that he had recently been arrested for Public Intoxication (still intoxicated and getting out into the public--at least not driving a car THAT time)!
As to having an interpreter during the trial, it was a precaution that his "rights" wouldn't get "trampled" by the system--the video shows him understanding English just fine on the road during the events leading up to his arrest. Just avoiding a reason for an appeal.
6:20 said, "Drinking and driving is illegal. Period." However, that is ENTIRELY INCORRECT. It is illegal to drive while intoxicated. If it is demonstrated that the driver was legally intoxicated, convict them. But remember it IS NOT illegal to drive after drinking if the person is not mentally or physically impaired. Let's get this understood.

Don't know all the facts in this DWI case, but in general, I favor no probation for multiple DWI offenders.
I knew it, just because of his race and the fact he couldn't speak English!!!
Maybe people are tired of repeat offenders getting a slap on the wrist. YOU THINK?

Good about no probation. They are overloaded as it is...and good for that jury.
Could it be remotely possible there are Banjo's on other planets?
Are there other planets?

At this rate, pretty soon no one will dare drive drunk.
Can't we talk about fun stuff for a change?

I assume you are saying this is jest, 2:30? Legal action will NEVER stop everyone from drinking and driving.
We're Drugs or Alcohol involved?

3:24, how can "legal action" not prohibit that? If someone is in jail, are they drinking and driving?
11:21 What are you stupid or what he was on trail for a DWI not what race he was.............are you really that stupid well I guess you are.
I thought Mexicans were allowed 3 DUI's .
