Random Wednesday Morning Thoughts

  • Snow? Incredible.
  • Slidell ISD shut down (per Channel 11)? Double incredible. Edit: Until I drove in that stuff. Several cars in the ditches along 287.
  • I'm hearing word that the Bridgeport robbery yesterday was a complete hoax. Developing.
  • Ugh. 30,000 more troops to Afghanistan? Bad. But getting the heck out of there in a year and a half or so? Good.
  • If you were foolish enough to send in money for Texas Rangers playoff tickets, chances are that you are finally getting a refund this week. And how do the Rangers make it up to you? By giving you for tickets to an exhibition game. That's a joke, right?
  • My first week in January trip to Costa Rica is still a go.
  • The dog pile of Tiger Woods begins (with yet another girl claiming an affair.) Why is it that the public just loves to run anyone out of town on a rail if given the chance?
  • But the taped message of Tiger released this morning is not-a-good.
  • Got word yesterday that a Bridgeport woman died in a crash in Granbury.
  • Doesn't Kay Bailey Hutchison come across and weak and timid these days?
  • They had Christmas Tree Talk on the Ticket yesterday. Things discussed: (1) good real trees cost over $100 (really?), (2) do you remember "flocked" trees, and (3) do you remember the cheap three color rotating floor light that would project green, blue and red onto the tree?
  • I kept hearing "Sweep the knee!" in my head this morning.
  • All of a sudden I'm recording most episodes of The Office that are in syndication. I've never seen 80% of them so it's like, uh, Christmas to me. Pretty funny stuff (and I really like the Indian lady.)

Guess Not... From the messenger

BRIDGEPORT ROBBERY - Bridgeport police are searching for two men who robbed a woman in their city yesterday morning. The victim was driving near the intersection of 13th Street and Brush Avenue when a car pulled up next to her and a man inside motioned that one of her back tires was flat. Once she pulled over and got out to look at the tire, one of the men shoved her back into the car and took her purse. One suspect was wearing a beanie, and one of the men was Hispanic. The victim said the men were in a clean, white, four-door passenger car, possibly a Ford, with a spare tire on the rear passenger axle. The men were last seen heading east on Texas 114 toward Paradise. Anyone with information should contact Wise County Crime Stoppers at (940) 627-8477 or (800) 643-8477. Tips can also be left online at http://www.sheriff.co.wise.tx.us/tip.htm

Everything I have heard from Kay Bailey Hutchison I agree with. Stay out of my health care !

Oh yeah, because The Messenger reports it that sets it into stone...

C'mon, BG, don't make the comment about the Afghanistan "surge" abstract. This is Obama's decision. He owns it. To cover himself politically, Obama will of course attempt to make it Bush's fault, that Obama was somehow forced to make the decision. But how do those people who voted for Obama because of their sentiments toward the war(s) feel about Obama now that he's escalating America's involvement?

Yeah, the whole snow thing caught me off guard. When the news channels say there will be snow I always poo-poo them since it takes like 5 false starts until we ACTUALLY get some. This one was right out of the gate right.

It's bad enough to be the regular guy/girl who gets ambushed by the local do-gooder who "knows" you are straying.

But the media storm is out of control and unfair to pile on and blow up anyone's personal life like what is happening to Tiger.

Society is wrong for spinning their own rules on others, when they aren't in a persons shoes.

Wow, Obama's speech last night was a complete copycat of Bush's speech to drum up support for the Iraqi surge. I'm not a big fan of Bush and what he did, but I really don't understand how folks who hate Bush for what he did can like Obama and support what he is doing. Obama is doing the same things Bush did, except he is outspending Bush by a long ways. I don't get it.

If that message is real, Tiger is toast. The press will be unrelenting. Yes, we like to take our heroes down..........and they all too willingly ablige.

The Book says that is the human condition!

That Indian lady, along with the temp and the HR guy, are writers for the show. Very talented group.

I thought the line was "Sweep the leg?" What movie is playing in your head?

"Aint no party like a Scranton party, cuz a Scranton party don't stop!"

I'm not really that interested in how many ho(l)es Tiger has played. ~rimshot~
But seriously, folks - all the dirt-digging is driven by the tabloid media. I don't want to hear about his personal stuff. Tell me what he did on the course and leave him alone. If he were to live his life out loud, the way Paris Hilton and the Kardashian clan media whores do, then he would be fair game.

My husband & I discussed the whole Tiger Woods situation last night and we both agree: If he had just come clean and told the truth it would have been better for him. The American public as a whole likes a celebrity better who makes a mistake and admits it. We understand that humans aren't perfect and whether Tiger Woods admits it or not, he's human. Saying "I'm wrong" and telling the truth would be the easiest way to make the "scandal" go away. Or at least begin his publicity healing.

Why isn't all the Obama loving people talking anymore? Is it the war? Is it health care? Is it the stimulus? Is it the tax cheats he put in office? Is it because his change isn't working for you and there really appears to be no "Hope"? Is it because he's a fraud, an amateur, a good orator or B.S.'er depending how you look at it, is because of global warming being a fraud? Is it because he has no balls? Is it Harry, Nancy, wat-up-dog? Is it the unemployment rate? What's the deal? You people are too silent and it's scaring me. Please for the love of man, make some comments, it's boring out here.

I thought Bush sent us to Iraq based on false intelligence about WMD....and left Afghanastan and soldiers there hanging until Sadam was taken out and never completed the task of 9/11 that was via Pakistan, Afghan....not Iraq.
BO in his many, many speeches said he wanted to get out of Iraq and finish the job in Afghanastan....which seems to me exactly what he is doing.
How do you know he is spending more than Bush, Bush never included the cost of the wars in any budget and we are still looking for millions lost. War is expensive, something the right didn't have a problem with for 8 years but now it is a problem.
The thing I find ironic is how for years the fear of being hit at home again and killing Americans like 9/11 where 3400 were killed was so great that we were willing to spend a trillion dollars without complaints. Yet we have no problem letting Americans die everyday due to the lack of health care, and access to medications. Those bumbs without healthcare deserve to die, but when hit by a bomb they are heroes.

Do you watch "Modern Family"?

Hilarious!

What skilled writers! Every episonde is so fun to watch.

I love watching all the campaign promises die in the dirt like our boys in Afgan. All the campaign rhetoric about ending the war was just that..more big lies to get elected. What do you Bammy lovers think now that he's totally reversed his promises?

As for the school closing...ridiculous. All the folks who act like a tiny bit of snow is some major deal need to move to the equator. What a bunch of whiny-a**es. The roads are WET, people. You should live up north where they really get real snow...10-12 inches.

Yes, some real trees are over $100 but you can get a beautiful real tree in Decatur at the little produce market on 81/287 Bus. across from Hudson's station for under $100. Today they're even flocked!

8:56, it's because they've finally realized they made a BIG mistake.

I though Obama was bringing the troops home this past summer. I wonder what happened to the plan! But did you notice he will bring them home now in time for the elections to start up again? A slap in the face to our military.

The Tiger voicemail is horrible for me to hear. Why is it impossible for famous men to be loyal to their wife? Don't cheat or don't get married. Pick one.

I remember the rotating 3-color light shining on an aluminum tree - I thought it was the coolest!!

9:30: The "bums without health care" as you call them, can go to any emergency room and get care without having to pay for it. So really, they already do have health care. Hence the reason some of us don't want our health care world rocked by a government take-over of a system that is already working just fine for most Americans.

Slidell is Closed!

So What?

Slidell always seems to shut down when we get hit but, still coping- does it get that much worse out there? Maybe all the hilly, gravel roads for a bus to slide off into the ditches.

I remember comments a few months ago about infidelity and the Govenor. I still agree, +90% of men and women remain faithful simply because they are afraid of the consequences of getting caught. My favorite attacks come from the "Christian Reicht" which if my fomer readings and church participation preaches tolerance and forgiveness. But maybe that was only for thyself and not others.

I think The Office is hilarious and the best one yet is the hour long show where Jim and Pam got married.

Along with the writers that double as actors, the man named Creed who plays solitaire all the time, is an original member of the 60's band The Grass Roots.

I think there is an unwritten law that war protesters cannot demonstrate against a Democrat Prez. We never heard an angry word when Clinton sent troops abroad either. They did let LBJ have it though, and Bush. Maybe they just protest when a President from Texas sends troops into harms way.

"Snow? Incredible"

Uh, excuse me, but what is so incredible about snow in December?

Oh, I get it. If you're a mindless liberal Gore-ophyte who has already bought the Chicken Little theory of global warming as gospel, well then I guess you really would find it unbelieveable that snow could ever fall again.

In your minds the fact that George Bush didn't jump up and bow to the global warming gods makes global warming a fact, right?

If the Slidell folk worry about this little flurry, then they really are a bunch of sissies!

Modern Family is the best show on TV. I can't wait for the next episode. It is similar in some ways to The Office, but better, in my opinion.

Amen to 9:11. The uninsured bums already have health care...it's called the Emergency Room. Bunch of deadbeats.

M-M said...

9:00 AM It came out in the news last week. Obama has set an all time record of spending in one year and his complete year isn't up yet. $3.5 trillion. Bush spent too much also, but this is ridiculously more.

Anonymous said...

10:48 call Slidell what you want, but we are enjoying the day off!

Emergency room treatment will not work for things like sore throat, cold, need prescriptions for blood pressure meds refilled. And besides that, if you have no money and go to emergency room, can't get aid, they will turn it over to collection. Not as near cut and dried as you make it sound. You have been listening to too much Marc Levin. That is the tuba he is always blowing about anybody can get health care at emergency rooms. There are still consequences that have to be dealt with. Otherwise, we could all drop our health insurance and just go to emergency rooms for any reason.

Anonymous said...

I think all of you judgmental "no insurance haters" should go to church and talk to your preacher and ask if the way you are treating and judging your neighbors is the Biblical thing to do...just because a large percentage of the population has no health insurance DOES NOT make them bums! Get off of your self-righteous high horses and just worry about yourselves. I am sure your lives have plenty of b.s. that could be scrutinized and hung out to dry. You know what they say - karma is a b*tch! Thank you karma!

And yes I have health insurance...just sick and tired of the hateful people out there judging so many people they know NOTHING about...

Never opposed Bush's war in Afgan.
Totally opposed it in Iraq, and it looks even sillier in hindsight.

I do support giving Karzi benchmarks to meet and if he doesn't meet them, then I will support pulling out......we gave him a chance.

The Islamic nuts much like the Right Wing nuts aren't going away. The best we can do is play good defense.

Re: health care reform....I can't understand supporting the status quo........it clearly isn't working except for those fortunate to have employer provided and that group is dwindling fast.

If I were not on Medicare today, my premiums would be three times what my housepayement was back in the days I had one of those.

I totally get the insurance co wanting 47 million new customers (subsidized by govt)not having to cover pre existing conditions and being able to limit their exposure to x per year. It is called greed.

128 - American healthcare Clearly isn't working? Not perfect, maybe, but survival rates for cancer are pretty high. Anyone needing critical care can get it relatively quickly (within minutes or hours, not months.) Most Americans who choose to have medical insurance can get it. Most of those who truly can't afford it are eligible for existing government assistance.

There are all sorts of incremental adjustments that Congress could make to control insurance costs -- allowing us to shop across state lines for insurance, or limiting attorney's fees in medical lawsuits, for example -- without completely overhauling the system. (By the way, neither of those common sense suggestions is included in the 4,000 pages of Democrat legislation.) The federal government could even start by eliminating $500 billion in Medicare fraud and waste -- before passing ANY legislation.

12:56 You don't know what you're talking about. I work at the hospital and our ER is frequently filled with the deadbeats who have nothing more serious than a sore throat, cold, etc. who just want free medical care, or perhaps a prescription to feed their drug habit. These folks take time from those who truly need our care and can pay for it. Sure, we try to collect on everyone, but I can assure you that owing a debt means nothing to the kind of people who run up bills and can't pay them. They have no integrity and no remorse for living off the backs of those of us who do work.

Anonymous said...

2:18

I thought you said you were a nurse, not a psychologist. You act like just because you have treated people with no insurance that they are all alike. How dare you!

How many times have you taken home meds or supplies from the ER without paying for them? Don't say you don't do it, cuz all medical staff does! Who is paying for that? Don't put yourself up high on a pedestal, because one day you will fall off...

Kyle
thanks for pointing out something I've wondered about since the start of this reform measure. If there is so much waste/fraud that can be eliminated, and that's where most of the money is going to come from, why not start cutting out the waste and fraud from the get-go? It doesn't take reform, or a bill from Congress to accomplish that

Anonymous said...

2:18 I totally agree with you. If I were you I would want to look up Mr. Welby's information and tell all those loosers who come to the ER to go see him for free medical care since he's so worried about them.

Accident Tuesday claimed life of Bridgeport woman

The woman who died late Tuesday morning at the scene of a two-vehicle accident on Glen Rose Highway at Umphress Court, approximately 5 miles south of Granbury, has been identified as Mary Woodard Smith, 46, of Bridgeport, according to a DPS trooper's report. She was driving a southbound 1998 Chevrolet S10 pickup that collided with a northbound 2002 International truck driven by Reginald Lee Welty, 50, of Alvarado, according to the DPS report. Welty was transported by ambulance to an area hospital and was listed in stable condition with a head injury, the DPS report said. The report stated that Smith's vehicle "veered into the northbound lane and collided with the front left of (Welty's truck)."
