Random Monday Morning Thoughts

  • Universal shotgun sound. Had to use.
  • I wonder how many of the "protesters" in the town hall meetings already have private insurance. And I wonder how many of the older protesters that have Medicare understand they they are taking advantage of a government health plan.
  • Elvis made 31 movies and you never see one of them on TV.
  • I mentioned last week that Giant's QB Eli Manning had a new contract with $35 million guaranteed. I had forgotten that Detroit's first round draft pick Matthew Stafford, who has never thrown a pass in the NFL, received guaranteed money of $41 million.
  • And for those fans of the bikini clad girls, this is how the same Matthew Stafford celebrated this summer.
  • Justice Sotomayor was confirmed by the Senate on Saturday but 31 Republican senators voted against her. Bush spent 8 years bending over backwards to include the Hispanics and now the GOP runs them off in less than a year.
  • Note to my Hispanic Texas friends: Remember when you next go to vote that Texas Republican Senators Cornyn and Hutchison voted against Sotomayor
  • When Sotomayor was sworn in on Saturday by Justice Roberts, Roberts read the oath of office to her. He must have learned from his screw up when he swore in President Obama.
  • A horrible auto accident involving a police chase in California over the weekend that you may not have heard about.
  • College football note (and I'm so happy it's nearly arrived): UNT will go to Alabama on September 18th. Ugh.
  • There's a "Rocky's Bar" in the Comfort Suites in Bridgeport that has live acts? (See August 27th date). Edit: LINK FIXED.
  • I had a dream that I was giving a closing argument and jurors were twittering -- and I was getting killed.
  • Comments on Denton book-in twitpic. http://twitpic.com/d8ksk
  • I'm sure you've seen the Texas Ranger Josh Hamilton bar pics by now. Wow. When that man falls off the wagon, he really falls off the wagon. (Here is the amazing Sports Illustrated article from last year chronicling his wheels off life.)

By the way Barry you were right about the Rangers the just took 2 out of 3 from the Angels and are in the lead for the wild card but your right they are going to fail

Barry,

You are a narrow minded idiot. Just because someone voted against Sotomayor you assume it was because she was Hispanic. Maybe they didn't like her liberal views or any of her views for that matter. Everything has to be about race. Blacks driving down the road with guns in plain view are only pulled over because they were black.

Anonymous said...

Why do you assume that all hispanics wanted Sotomayor to be confirmed? Do you think every white guy should be given a promotion or an appointment just because he is white like you? A lot of hispanics probably want someone appointed who will uphold the constitution no matter what race that person happens to be. This is why racism will never die. Why would you even bring up her race? Is she qualified or isn't she? Race=nothing to do with it.

Anonymous said...

Liberals are amazingly stupid creatures.

BG, do you ever think before you type?

How about the way Dems treated Daniel Estrada and Alberto Gonzales?

Why would you expect Repubs to vote for a racist like Sotomayor? Why did Dems vote for her?

Plus you are a piece of work judging Hamilton. He is ten times the person you are.

Anonymous said...

And to all of my Hispanic friends - which party demonized and continues to demonize the first Hispanic US Attorney General.

But that's not racist because Democrats do it.

"I wonder how many of the "protesters" in the town hall meetings already have private insurance."

I'm guessing that many of them have private insurance and they want to keep it that way.....How horrible of them!!!

WOW!
Barry's RACIST belief and comments about Hispanics' willingness to vote for candidates based on the race of the candidate and the republicans who "spent 8 years bending over backwards to include the Hispanics" but voted against a LIBERAL, RACIST, ACTIVIST judge, who happens to believe that a "wise Latina woman" makes better decisions than white men, are among the most divisively racist comments EVER made by ANYONE on Barry's blog.

It seems as though Barry has taken a double dose of the Loony Leftist Liberal Kool-aide and has joined the ranks of the Elitist Liberals.

Kudos to the Senators who voted their conscience rather than voted for someone based on the race of the candidate in an attempt to pander to members of a racial minority.

8:43, the republicians voted against her because she was nominated by a Democrat. Not because of her views or her record. It has been reported that her record is very similar to the Justice that she is replacing. Not a change in the makeup of the court. GET A GRIP!!!

mzchief said...

Thank Heaven Justice Roberts "learned from his screw up when he swore in President Obama." What a pity ALL people do not learn from their prior screw ups so as to avoid trudging through their screwed up life repeating the same mistakes.

Hey Barry, if people like Sotomayor had of been on the 5th Circuit when Cheryl Hopwood protested discrimination against white applicants to law school you probably would be driving a rock truck. You might have went to a private college but if the white applicants to state universities had of been turned down then they would have applied at Baylor, or wherever you went, and given you competition for the limited number of slots. Would that have been ok with you?

Go ahead and be a racist and tell your Hispanic friends about our Senators and I will tell our young white voters, who may want to be firefighters or may want to go to law school, about what their chances will be with that bitch on the bench.

Since you are childless and the end of your elete gene pool I guess it doesn't matter to you.

Anonymous said...

barry, your comment is typical. Sotomayor's confirmation is about nothing but race. kplain and simple.
simple minded people have simple minded leaders.
i hope you never think of yourself as anywhere near intelligent. cause your not.

I agree completely. Do all white people have to vote for all minorities to keep from being labled a racist? Wouldn't voting for someone strictly on the color of their skin be racist? She made it clear that she would be able to make better choices than white me. That sounds kind of racist and sexist at the same time. Wow. What if a white male would have said he would make better choices than a black woman...

Anonymous said...

Wow !!! Who peed on everybodies wheaties this morning? Let's get a polarized non-discussion going!

Anonymous said...

So, the last time Bush was up for reelection, did you happen to mention to all your Hispanic friends how he was bending over backwards to include them in the GOP?
You are racial profiling when you mention to Hispanics the senators' votes. Why didn't you just say "Hey EVERYBODY (or liberals), remember when you next go to vote..."?

No mention of Vicente Padilla getting his walking papers from the Rangers? This time it's for good. The other players know that, because none of them had anything good to say about him. I said before that the crazy quotient in the clubhouse would plummet as soon as they got rid of him. He was a bad, bad influence and example. Brush 'em back off the plate - yes...hit batters on purpose - NO!

I hope King Obama is learning something from the tone of the townhall meetings!

OMG BARRY!!!!

"Note to my Hispanic Texas friends: Remember when you next go to vote that Texas Republican Senators Cornyn and Hutchison voted against Sotomayor"

Did you ever come to think that maybe they didnt vote for her because they did not like her sexist, racist, liberal ways and not because she is Hispanic!!!

Do all liberal weenies have to play the race card?

I cant believe that YOU just wrote that.

Anonymous said...

I agree that Obama chose our new supreme court justice because of her race, and she certainly believes herself superior due to her gender and race...that is why she is intellectually inferior to the others on the court. One day hopefully this country will get weary of the liberal garbage and set it out on the curb. Unfortunately, I believe we may well be too far gone.

"Protesters" in quotes, really? Suddenly the Republican Party has become that organized? Really?

Hispanics should vote against Republicans because they voted agsinst another Hispanic? Mexican-American Texans have more in common with a Puerto Rican-American from the Bronx than they do the Anglos they work with and live with?

Maybe Hispanics should remember that Democrats killed the nomination of Miguel Estrada in 2001 because he was Latino.

PS - You guys don't underestimate BG's intelligence. He knows exactly what he's doing and saying. (Tip of the hat, counselor.)

Most of the town hall attendants have medical insurance just like you Barry. They aren't interested in a government that cannot keep up with itself trying to concern itself with 300 million people's health. I certainly do not want the government in my life any more that it already is...in fact I would like it much less.

And still not a peep from you about Obama's secret deal with drug manufacturers to protect their profits if they support his healthcare plan?

Yep, I do. I wouldn't say he doesn't believe it. I don't think he'd say it if he didn't, but I also think he knows exactly what buttons to push to get a rise out of his readers, and he enjoys every irate remark, and the more extreme the remark the more justified he feels in his opinion.

And as for Hutchinson voting against Sotamayor, she may regret that when smiling at the Texas Hispanic community in her race against Rick Perry.

Take a breath guys! It is sorta hard to to defend Alberto......regardless of his skin color.

KBH probably would have voted for the Wise Latino woman if she were not in a contest with dodo bird Perry........but you have to keep that Wingnut base. It is politics 101, you have to win the Wingnut primary first to get to the general election.

As far as record. Sotomayor's one case out of 3600 and her probably poor choice of words in a couple of speeches........do not make for a liberal justice.

Those 31 Senators no more voted conscience than I can fly. They made a "now decision." They need the Wingnut base now as early as November, they will worry about that growing Hispanic plurality later.

As far as later, angry White men have only one refuge.......where their whiteness/gender gaurantees employment.............as Baptist Ministers.

Anonymous said...

Betcha when all is said and done, many of the protestors will have been paid for their services in some way.

Wait and see.

My Republican Party will change...it will be more responsive to gays, Latinos, women (real women) because it needs to return to power.

As is, we can only obstruct and delay and look like idiots in the process.

We can do nothing without the power, therefore we must change

To date, we have been damn lucky a charismatic Hispanic politician hasn't united and fired up his people. Had that happened we would be forever out of power.

soz said...

leaving out a word is a grammar error? or a typo? hmmmm, considering i was willing to submit that a misplaced apostrophe could be an honest oversight (and not an indicator of a total moron), i might expect the same treatment. but then, that may, apparently, be giving you too much credit. i would spare you the pressure, but then i, too, would be guilty of rushing to judgement regarding you.

now, if you'd like to make the point that critiquing others' grammar/writing on the comments section of a blog is a little dickish, i'd be happy to agree. i pride myself in my dickishnesh. (it's ironic, trust me.)

RPM et al - Is there anything remotely resembling evidence that the protesters at the meetings are paid by organizers? (A moot point really, since very soon Democrat congressmen will simply stop holding any kind of open meetings.) It appears that Liberal Democrats are lashing out at the public because of their fear that average Americans are mobilizing. Republicans are not the only group shocked and scared by the aggressive Democrat takeover of industry.

12:40 I certainly hope not. Decatur football has been in a meltdown the last two years. Kids quitting left and right and most of the time the reason is the politics involved and particularly the favoritism showed by the coaches.

Saturday night I counted 46 on varsity. There is usually sixty something. I think it reflects on how the program is being run.

Barry: Relative to the hispanic subject, shame on you for race baiting.

I think the issue with Sotomayor is not that she is a minority. I think the issue that she believes her job as a justice is to make law, not interpret existing law.

As an attorney, I would expect you to take issue with her views because it is quite difficult to advocate for the criminally accused (or clients in civil matters) when law is made by judges and justices, leaving statutes and codes as mere suggestions.
