Random Friday Morning Thoughts

  • A true "home invasion" robbery would be terrifying. (There was one last night in Oak Cliff -- and you hear about them more and more.)
  • Sports: Cowboys got killed in a meaningless preseason game, Tiger Woods still great as he leads the PGA Championship, Michael Vick gets a second chance with the Philadelphia Eagles, and the Rangers play a very meaningful series this weekend against the Red Sox as they battle for the wild card. Highlights at 10:00.
  • I strained my back mowing the lawn but it's in a weird place -- mid level, far right. At least I know it's not a disc. Maybe.
  • I went half the day yesterday before I realized the guy that shot himself while driving near Newark and then was hit by a train survived. That'll be a good story to tell his grandkids.
  • Kelly Clarkson photoshopped for Self magazine. I'm guessing she knows where Fred's hamburger joint is (callback reference from yesterday.)
  • My Costa Rica trip for January is still a go but, man, flights there are outrageous. Anyone know any tricks? I've got an email notifier every week for changes in rates but I'm getting a big bag of nothing.
  • The Town Hall screaming sessions are now giving me Tired Head.
  • Things I don't understand: Tarrant County foreclosure postings are up for six month in a row but Perot's Hillwood company just announced that it will build 78 homes in the Heritage division in North Fort Worth.
  • Ticket Fans: The Ed Carter bit may be my favorite.
  • Steve Lamb on WBAP this morning talking about a few players in baseball who have been released this year but are still being paid: "They must have great agents!" Sheesh. Every major league baseball contract is guaranteed. It's not a great agent. It's a great union.

So Barry when are the Rangers going to fade like you predicted last week???????

I don't share your seeming obsession with oversized (usually artificially enhanced) baby feeding globules, but I do kinda like today's pic. What's with the stuck-up gal on the left? It's spring break - South Padre style, baby! SUYT!

Town Hall hysteria does indeed give Tired Head. The only joy in all of this is watching as Sarah Palin further goes down in flames, twittering hysterically to her minions as she crashes and burns. What a bizarre train wreck that woman has turned out to be.

thanks for labeling the topic "sports" so I could skip it. I hate sports. Now, if you could just label "politics" as well, I'd be good to go and save lots of time.

Palin must be in the throes of the change of life - she's acting like it.

I'll bet the thoughtful Republicans wish they'd never stirred her up. She's out of control.

Does Vick going to Philly mean he will take Kevin Kolbs place in the line up?

Who's got a bigger dumper, Jennifer Lopez or Kelly Clarkson?

Gordon Keith = not funny.

What was the score on the Cowboys game?

Palin reminds me of the old saying about the typical, unattainable, attractive woman: No matter how good-looking she may be, there is some guy somewhere who is tired of putting up with her sh%t.

I think that's the collective attitude of many of Palin's early supporters. It was fun at first but now we are simply tired of putting up with her sh&t. Time for her to hit the road and go bug some other constituency.

She certainly has given Texas a run for having the goofiest governor.

Given the overall success of Hillwood's decisions in north Fort Worth over the years, including their residential activities, chances are they are still thinking long term, and making moves accordingly.

Check out Jet Blue rates. I know they don't fly out of Dallas but you may get out cheaper flying to Miami on something like Southwest and then catching a Jet Blue.

I would say that Sarah Palin is as effective as a private citizen as she was as governor when she speaks of Obammy's death panel and the liberal weenies remove it from the health care bill. Run, Sarah, Run.

Barry:

It's not hard to understand about the Perot home building. People are going to want a new home in certain areas and where some of the foreclosures are taking place are in areas where people don't want to live -- which is why they're not buying those homes.

Home invasion of my home would be terrifying and deadly for the invader.

I keep a Ruger.44 revolver and a Beretta 9mm (semi-auto with laser sights) between my mattress and box springs.

I have thought about it often. Could I shoot someone. I don't want to kill anyone. But I will protect my family. Everytime the qustion gets the same answer. Yes. If you break into my house in the middle of the night your gonna see that laser sight on your chest.

I hang out at a discussion board where they think Palin is the second coming and will be the next President. Those people are scary.

72 year old man hits 4 would be robbers (armed) with a shotgun blast, killing two, sending the other two to the hospital. NYPD's reaction, checking to see if the shotgun was legally registered. There's your liberal government in action.

I wonder if the 9mm the robbers wielded was legally registered?

It's nice to be able to watch "meaningful" Ranger games in August.

Barry,

Just did a Costa Rica trip and found going out of Austin (stop in Hou Bush)on Continental was half of what it costs to go AA out of DFW.

You might want to price out of an airport other than DFW as they all gouge on Central and South America routes.

almost all home invasion robberies are committed by blacks, and all across the us where there are large black populations you will see huge numbers of home invasions..wtf, why does the government and many others insist on integration of races? it seems un-natural, i believe if the lord intended for races to mix it would happen naturally...same way with gods other creatures, ie, birds of a feather flock together and so on.

Why don't you just fly there under your own power you firey fairy.

All the liberals stick together on labeling Sarah Palin a "nut-job". Here's the truth, the Liberals and the equally Liberal news media are scared sh$tless of her and want her to go away, she won't, so they label her an idiot. Bottom line, let Obama, Pisslosi, Reid and the rest continue to pull the crap they're pulling and you'll hear more and more of her. And besides, who's the idiots? Sarah Palin is probably making a lot more money than those who are making fun of her. Speaking of saying stupid things, Nancy Pisslosi is talking about old people at the Town Halls wearing swastika's and being non-american and mobsters. Now who's an idiot? You people who are behind all this wonderful crap Obama is doing are going to get screwed with the rest of us and you can't even see it coming. For God sake people, get some balls. I know you liberals have a hard time admitting your wrong, but if you can't see this you need more help than Sarah Palin ever thought.

Anonymous said...

Any news on the person in Decatur who was shot yesterday?

Anonymous said...

Hey dumbass are you talking about Nancy Pelosi!

There is no GOD only dumb rednecks

Anonymous said...

Hey 1:50 or dumbass however you prefer. Yea I spelled it Piss-losi because she pisses on everything she gets her hands on. I know how to spell her name correctly you moron. IT WAS A STATEMENT THROUGH SPELLING, dah!!

Good heavens, 1:25, take your Ritalin or leave the playground.

Reporting on Palin is like reporting on a bloody car wreck: People just have to stop and stare. It is less about the media being "liberal" and more about viewers' fascination with seeing misfortune and carnage. That woman's last remaining rubber band is stretched tight and about to snap, and that's not the media's fault. They'll just be there to record the next magnificent, jaw-dropping explosion when she becomes even more unhinged.

Most of us sane, thoughtful conservatives are aghast that this woman has become the face of the GOP. She has no depth, no gravitas, no meaningful experience, and certainly no temperment for statesmanship or diplomacy. She is petty and polarizing, divisive and delusional. If she is the best we can do, we deserve to be on the sidelines. Pfft.

Anonymous said...

I tend to agree with 1:25. If there's anything left resembling America when Obama's done with us, Palin just might be the one to take the reins and get us back on track. New blood, younger, female...I'd vote for her.

Anonymous said...

Good Lord 2:17(Longer comment)the Ritalin comment sounds like a liberal comeback but that's O.K., all of us are going to be so "bat-ass" crazy when Obama finishes we'll all need Ritalin. But see that's the problem with the Republican party right now, they're whipped into "settling-down" and taking their Ritalin when the majority needs to stand up for the voters and grow some nuts instead of taking it like a beat dog. Being Politically Correct, as the Republicans are attempting to do, is like Multi Tasking, neither is impressive and you can see where it's gotten us.

Anonymous said...

But 2:38, no one in the GOP seems to be playing to the majority of conservatives; rather, it is the far-right fringe that is getting all the attention and that's what dooms the Republican Party today. KBH's feigned concern for gun rights as her reason for voting against Sotomayor is a prime example. That she is more concerned with the NRA than the soon-to-be majority Hispanic population in Texas is amazing. Does she really think the NRA will mobilize voters against her in favor of Perry? The NRA has lots of money, but they're not going to waste it on that fight. In one fell swoop, I suspect she drove off hordes of Hispanic voters which might otherwise help the GOP return to greatness. Meanwhile, the party is typified by goons like Limbaugh, Hannity, Beck and Palin. This Eisenhower Republican weeps for the party.

"...no depth, no gravitas, no meaningful experience, and certainly no temperment for statesmanship or diplomacy.... petty and polarizing, divisive and delusional..."

I am so tired of hearing about Obama...

Anonymous said...

3:33 and others: "all the attention" is placed on "the far-right fringe" and on statements made by conservatives taken out-of-context by liberals in the media who's agenda is to make Republicans/conservatives/whoever-they-want-to-look-bad, to look bad. The party is "typified by goons" by those persons for a reason. Limbaugh, Hannity, Levin, et al, emphasize comments taken out of context by those they wish to portray in a bad light also, therefore one has to work hard to boil it down to information on which a valid position may be based. Many liberals today cut off discussion immediately if the topic raised for discussion was reported on Fox News - how very convenient.

Good grief dude where are you finding all the ugly chicks?

My old lady looks better than them!

What we really need is Wordkyle's take on Palin.

Oh WORDY, where are you?

Research please, and with the websites that we can follow.

HURRY!!

wordkyle said...

Palin wins,
Obama loses.

You're welcome.

As a woman Sarah embrasses me like being white did when I accidently drove thru Boyd during a clan rally! Surely they can't share any of my genes. I hang my head low every time I hear KKK or Palin mentioned. Please don't judge me on their words or actions.

Anonymous said...

Looks like a lot of Conohotlinks has had a Limbaughtomy.

Anonymous said...

Tell us why we should trust your research sources Wordkyle?

wordkyle said...

You shouldn't. You should take the time to do your own research and educate yourself.

Anonymous said...

Good answer Wordkyle.

That is exactly what I do. Educating myself is taking a hard look at all sides, not just the ones that appeal to me personally or politically.

wordkyle said...

203 - You've tried that word a couple of times now. You should probably be aware that in biology/medicine, the suffix -otomy indicates an incision or division. You are in essence accusing people of having separated themselves from Limbaugh, which I think is different from what you intended. Just trying to help.

wordkyle said...

Congratulations. See? We're not so different after all.

Where are the decent Republicans, the everyday man on the street who would say.........hey, forget policies.....enough is enough with the lies and hate!!!

wordkyle said...

840 - Politicians tell so many lies, it's hard to know where to start, but let's try this one for starters:

Barack Obama, 2009: “I have not said that I was a single payer supporter.” (@:49)
Barack Obama, 2003: "I happen to be a proponent of a single payer universal health care plan.” (@1:00)

Proponent and supporter are different words, although they are synonyms. Did Obama lie or tell the truth?

Anonymous said...

8:40 - we think lies and hate are going on now with the R's.

Just wait for the Perry/Hutchison slugfest.

This may split the Texas Republican Party.

Go Kay!

Anonymous said...

Wordkyle
Unfortunately, you answered my question.....you can't.

Anonymous said...

Wordkyle, let's go for fairness. Give us some examples of Republican politicians lying or telling the truth, via your research.

We wait.

wordkyle said...

628 - Wait, what?

132 - Republicans "lying or telling the truth" -- hmmm, that's a tough one...

wordkyle said...

628 - I was in a rush with my earlier response, so I wanted to come back to you. As a decent (for the most part) Republican (for the most part) I sought to call attention to one of the lies that we've been told. Was the lie I pointed out inconvenient for you?

Barry,
Keep an eye on "airfare only" on www.atusa.com (Adventure Tours). We've gone to Costa Rica 3 times that way and gotten very good deals on airfare only. The flights are Saturday to Saturday, though.
