That's nothing... Friday, I saw 3 Bport poleeze wearing shorts and helmet on bicycles with saddlebags saying "POLICE" on 9th St.
They were in a vacant lot; one on the radar gun, the other 2 writing citations. It struck me as odd that they kept their helmets on while not on their bikes.
I do not have a problem with the enforcement of speed limit laws. NOT exceeding the speed limit is the easiest way to avoid encountering the people hired to enforce the laws.
Speed limit laws are just like drug and DUI laws. Do not speed, drink while driving or do drugs and the laws are fairly unimportant in your life.
At least they are visible to let you know they are watching!! It's the ones that "hide" to catch you that irritate me! When they're right out in the open, I don't have a problem.... they're doing their job.
so is thr a study showing that a sign that tells you how fast your going prevents deaths. if thr was im sure we would have them all of the state. Chief Rex lets get some!!
The city could pick up a little revenue if they stocked that box with ice cream and sold it to the people they stop and write tickets to. They could even do catchy marketing and repaint box to say "Pol-Ice-Cream" and play a jingle like "In The Jail House Now" or "jail House Rock" or maybe "Tom Dooley" when the lid opened.
Need to add to music list for Musician Fisherman "Gallis Pole" by Leadbelly to be played from ice cream/radar box. "Friends, you get some silver? Did you get a little gold? What did you bring me, my dear friends? Keep me from the Gallows Pole. What did you bring me to keep me from the Gallows Pole?"
Brother, I brought you some silver, yeah, I brought a little gold I brought a little of everything To keep you from the gallows pole Yes, I brought you to keep you from the gallows pole.
Hangman, hangman, turn your head awhile I think I see my sister coming, Riding a many mile, mile, mile, mile Sister, I implore you, Take him by the hand Take him to some shady bower Save me from the wrath of this man Please take him, save me from the wrath of this man, man.
If speeding had a more right-wing style of punishment, say execution by gunshot on the spot, people would probably not speed as much. Speeding laws can be made to be obeyed by having a little more "Nazi style enforcement" in their local government law enforcement organizations. Same way with driving in the left passing lane of a divided highway when not really passing. Just a little more strict punishment that a puny fine makes all the difference in the world. Right Jar?
1:42, don't get yo drawers up in a Republican wad. You git your facts straight. That was just a piece of the lyrics, but Leadbelly recorded it way before ZEP band members were ever born. Don't be such a shithead, and YOU get your facts straight before coming out like Newt during a full moon. Man, the stupidity of some that thinks they are right on and know everything but nothing. Do some research before. Leadbelly died in 1949, and I have a cassette tape of him doing "Gallis Pole" from archives. I am right, and you is wrong. You know, you don't have to be so nasty to disagree. I know Zep and Areosmith done songs and stole a little style from Leadbelly, as well as others. You probably have never even heard of Leadbelly "Huddie Ledbetter" from Texas. But he was real, and was in prison for killing a man with his fist in a fight over a woman. He is the one credited with the song "Goodnight Irene" even tho it was kinda just a standard. I posted that info for the Musician Fisherman. I would bet he knew exactly what/who I was referencing to. O, and bite me you AH.
Speed limits are posted to protect lives and limit property damage. There is a direct relationship between speed limits and traffic deaths. Any speed limit is a compromise between getting there quicker and how many people we will let die. Those who speed and complain about enforcement would make a choice of leting more people die so they can get where they are going a little quicker. Seems selfish to take lives in order to hurry to your destination.
2:08, 3:37/1:42 meant that to you. Sub 2:08 instead 1:42 at the first of comment. I Gotta learn to look at the bottom of stupid posts for the real time. Will work on it. But that was my stupid. You still have yours tho.
Wow. A post about a reasonably good idea that helps drivers notice their speed (without getting a ticket) turns into a good old fashion Republican/Right Wing bashing party. What motivation!
Get on the breaking news bear! Homicide in Wichita Falls and Armed Robbery in Sanger. Police make stop and arrest on 287 just South of Decatur. Not sure which particular suspects were arrested? They shut down the South Bound side of 287 to get it done. Nice Work Guys!
3 capital murder suspects were apprehended south of decatur on 287 at 4:45pm by dps and wcso...robbery/murder took place in wichita falls around 3:30 this afternoon
Wow, 3:37 is a little ball of anger, isn't he/she/it?
Half the fun of being right all the time is to just be satisfied with it and not have to prove it. You're going about it the wrong way. You must not be right very often. I am happy that you won this little battle, however. Good for you.
Anyway,
Speeding is okay. Driving in the left lane is not. Unless you're passing.
People constantly call their local police agencies complaining about people speeding. These trailers were donated to Decatur, Bridgeport, and WCSO. They do not issue tickets. They are there to help people be more aware of their speeds.
And now you can know if your speedometer is off by 5 to 10 miles an hour as you always tell the officers who pull you over for speeding.
To anonymous 12:15... The Mayan calender ends on December 21, 2012. There is a segment of the population that believes the end of the Mayan calender signifies the end of the world rather than the Mayans just needed to get a new calender.
The frequent references, on Barry's Blog, to December 21, 2012 is the brilliant humour of one of the anonymous commentors making the point that NONE of the crap that gets thrown down on Barry's Blog matters. I think the 12.21.2012 commentor is also making the point that people really do not need to get excited about everything they hear, especially, the crap they encounter on the Interweb.
6:11..Yes sir/ma'am, mzchief has a fan. I'm sure she has a lot of bloggers that like what she has to say. As far as I'm concerned, she seems to know her "stuff" and I like her no-nonsense approach. As for the commit "I'm sure she's proud"....Nah. I think she just speaks her mind and doesn't give a f*** what you think. I like that.
These are all around the Metro-plex right now. I think it is probably part of some traffic initiative going on. The funny thing is, I have seen probably 20 different ones in the past week or two and I would say 3-5 of them were wrong.
I think some of the later posters may need new glasses. The Mzchief thing is what is called sarcasm. The 11:37 poster said they liked her "commits" instead of liked her "comments".
Mr. Jar, you are dead on on part of your comments to me. You are wrong on other parts. That really was an angry response, and I feel like a shithead for acting as such. I apoligize to all that read it and to the commenter that I was responding to. It was that "Get your facts straight..." comment and some severe alcohol overload that caused such a severe eruption of good sense and good manners. For your information, I am right at least .01% of the time. So there. Hope you had a good Father's day as well, as I hope all Father's should have had. Sincerely, Anonymous Shithead 3:37, trying to do better in the future.

Maybe they've become "tired of showing up at wrecks and having to tell families someone's dead" obsessed.

My first thoughts took me to a character on Reno 911!
What that picture taken with your new 3G S iPhone or your original one?

Happy Fathers' Day everybody!
BG, why have you not posted pictures from the juneteenth parade that was at the courthouse friday but you managed to work in a hot girl picture?
i'm jus sayin.....
I heard that Rex already has a speed trailer. Bridgeport, Decatur and the county each have one donated by crime stoppers.
My radar detector LAUGHS at the Poll-eese
How much did that little toy cost the taxpayers?
Decatur does in fact have a speed trailer, its pretty sweet. Usually on Hale st. During week
what is this with the December 12, (or 21), 2012??
End of the world? Please somebody tell me, cuz I got a lot of living to do if that's gonna happen.
Clark, It was taken with a Moto-Q. Camera is not one of it's better functions.
Personally, I kinda like the speed monitor. They were working the bicycle gig on 9th while this was out on 16th.
Correct, 8:10. And...Rex also has a nifty bicycle patrol. I saw him in his spandex shorts and rocket racer helmet on the square yesterday.

That Radar is right on. Way to go BPD. It's informative and a deterrent to speeding. VERY good move. Congrats.

the good news is after 12-21-12 we won't have to put up with mz anymore.
Thank you mzchief for clearing that up for me!
Keep up the good work! I love reading your commits on this blog!
Mzchief has a fan that loves to read her commits. I'm sure she's proud.

If I were a Dung beatle, I would roll up Bridgeport.
Mzchief saves me from making a lot of posts. Most of the time, she is dead solid perfect.
If you don't realize that, might check the mirror for errors.

10:09 Good try but, I can't recall any deaths happening in a neighborhood side street. Placing it on 101 or 380 would suit your excuse better.

10:35, so if you're not aware of something, does that mean it didn't happen? I ate dinner last night; but maybe I didn't since you're not aware of it.
