Holy crap. When I worked for the city, I remember Sgt. White. He had an OU rug in his office. This is so sad.
chasing a person for traffic violations is a waste of time...now a waste of life...an officers life...its a tragedy. This rule must get changed....absolutely a posturing move that can be handled differently.Craig in H-Town
It was a hit and run.........not a traffic citation
Sgt. White was an excellent officer and representative of the badge. His loss is tragic and I only hope that our condolences and sincerest regrets can offer comfort to his family and fellow officers. We have lost one of our family. Please bow your heads and say a prayer in his honor. James StaintonWise County Attorney
Yep, why don't we just have the police sit on their duffs in the offices and never even be on the road! Think of the lives saved! WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE? They were chasing a HIT and RUN driver...who they already "knew" ... evidently they had very good cause to try and catch this guy...and the guy evidently DID NOT want to be caught because he chose to ram this officer's car... most likely thinking he would kill himself and take and officer with him. You people who say this "no chase" stuff will be the first ones to say "what the hell good do the police do?" when someone in your family is victim of a hit and run....if the police don't chase and catch the perp!
The suspect has been charged with capital murder. Fox 4 reported the dash cams on the cruisers in pursuit showed the suspect could have avoided Sgt. White.
Seemoore:Read a little, it was initially a hit and run in Decatur against a civilian, then a police chase leading to a car stolen and he intentionally hit the back of a parked police car at pursuit speeds.Yeah, lets just let him go smoke his dope innocently behind YOUR barn.RIP Officer White
Officer White was a wonderful demostration of what an office to aholds the law is. At the same time he was real down to earth and cool as ever, he will be truly missed by everyone here in Bridgeport becuase of the wonderful work he did. I'll remember him laughing at me because I didn't run after a guy that had stolen some items from our store, he said if I was you I dont think I would have ran either considering, you had on the wrong shoes. He pointed to my boots and he fell out laughing, it is that laid back attitude that he had that will be truly missed, my condolences go out to his wife and children I will keep them in prayer.
I can only imagine the pain Sgt. White's wife and family are going through. Being the wife of a police officer is hard, I know because I am one. There is always that fear of the knock on the door. I pray that Sgt. White's wife knows that he is a hero and that no one will ever forget this brave, brave man. May the Lord watch over them and keep them safe
thoughts of love to his family. they must be devastated right now.
Sgt. White, I'll dearly miss you. Thank you for your service to our community. I am proud to have served with you. May you rest in peace. A brother officer
My thoughts and prayers not only go out to Sgt. Whites family but also to those in his department. I am a police dispatcher and know the heartache that those who worked with him are going through...TammyB
I am so sad. This is horrible.
Godspeed SGT. White
Thanks for sharing your story about the boots and his wonderful personality. I think it is important to attach those happy thoughts and special memories to him in this time instead of only remembering his sacrifice. God be with him, his family, and the community in this time of mourning. May we continue to celebrate a life well lived.
Did anyone see where the star-telegram put the story this morning or how small Officer White's picture was? Section B, page 4. Contaact them at "firstname.lastname@example.org"
Sgt. White was one of those people that made you enjoy coming to work. He loved his job and tried to make sure everyone else there did too. I doubt there's an officer at Bridgeport that doesn't remember hearing his laughter up and down the hallways. He will be sorely missed and his absence will leave a gaping hole. Rest in peace White.
My prayer's go out to officer White's family. I say when you see an officer or anybody in the inforcement tell them Thank you and you appreciate what they do. You don't have to wait untill they help you or a family member to tell them. I say for today and over the weekend drive with your head lights on for the White Family and his fellow officers for the support and prayer's.
I would like to say thanks to the Decatur Police Department & the Wise County Sheriff's Office for partoling in Bridgeport last night to give the Bridgeport Police Department Family a chance to be together and sort through this terrible tragedy.
In the midst of this tragedy, whereare the liberal whiners that want criminal drugs legalized? For York, they must have been legalized for him a long time as a known user and he somehow managed to evade the law. Now his evasion comes to an end with the killing of a police officer. Justice delayed is not justice at all. He should have been rotting in prison long ago.
srgt white was a nice guy who by his choosen profession to protect the community he lived in as a police officer. on apr 2 2009 he was killed making sure that other drivers on the road were out of the way of the chase and out of harms way. every one owes this mans family a thank you for the sacrifice that they made. srgt white will be missed and died a tragic death but died a hero.
Pehaps the city could name thier new recreation center with Officer White in mind?
My prayers go out to Sgt. White's family, but I will also be praying for Steven York's children. They also are loser's in this. They will always be remembers as the kids of the man that killed Officer White. So many lives are now destroyed.
My point is this...I understand it was a hit and run....the community knows him, where he lives, where he hangs out etc..etc...There is no perfect law....this guy was crazy to run from the very ones who protect us....but this happens more frequently than not....it places INNOCENT people in danger. ..Dont complain to me...i am not against everyone here, just stating my opinion...I am certain the police and/or community could have gone right up to him and raided his hang-out/house--- wherever within 48 hours. This will limit the INNOCENT lives affected. Be nice. I am on your side...and I may be wrong...but so may you. This great police officer lost his life, left a child and wife behind doing his job, but avoidable....lets explore the possible improvements needed...By the way, why is everyone anonymous?
Oh sure 9:51---And don't forget to trust that he will be on perfect behavior for the 48 hours ... whatever... when you think the cops should approach him at home. Surely you would never mentally qualify to be a cop.
so many of you missing the point....thanks for the debate though....
York choose to be living piece of crap and made his own decision to ram and kill a POLICE OFFICER!!!! I will be in Huntsville in 20 years when he gets the needle. What a work of art. Some of you people are morons, just complete morons. He made his own decision to ram Sgt. White's patrol vehicle and he should have a picture posted in his cell which he can't remove, so he can see it everyday. He probably doesn't give a shit because he will appeal it over and over again until his death by lethal injection. He chose, he acted, he carried out his actions to his fullest attent. If he was a real man he would deny his appeals and go straight to the front of the line for his stupidity and carelessness. I honestly hope he rots to death on DEATH ROW, eats S*** and dies while his farts become puff of winds instead of noise. RIP Sgt. White.
My prayers and thoughts are with Sgt White's family and friends. My prayers are also with his fellow police officers who serve everyday to keep us safe. May God be with yall during this difficult time.
