Somebody call Bobby Morgan to get some names......I'm sure he's waddling around there somewhere.

Anonymous said...

If somebody died, Joe Duty's there snapping pics of the grief striken family...

Anonymous said...

This is for anonymous: Sounds like you might be just a little jealous of Joe Duty and Bobby Morgan because secretly you really want to be at those accidents and see those grieving people yourself. And I really hate to burst your bubble, but Joe Duty was not even close to the wreck and so how could he take any pictures????

Anonymous said...

Gosh, if Joe Duty wasn't there HOW will anyone learn how dangerous it is to be reckless while driving? Aren't his grieving-parents-friends-wreck pictures supposed to teach people that they shouldn't put their friends/famlies through that?

The person who caused that wreck must not have ever seen those pictures...

And in yet another incoherent report from the mess..."ANOTHER BAD WRECK - Three vehicles were involved in a serious accident on U. S. 380, about four miles west of the Denton/Wise county line about 6 p.m. Wednesday. An east-bound car on U. S. 380 collided with another vehicle while trying to pass a U-Haul trailer in the west bound lane."

The east bound car was trying to pass a west bound car? No, the vehicle that it hit was trying to pass the trailer. Repeat after me. "The west bound car, while attempting to pass a U Haul trailer, collided with an east bound vehicle."

9:36 Almost as coherent as the writings from Cody Duty as he regales us with tales of his summer in Nebraska. Geez, the boy needs to stick to taking pictures...

Anonymous said...

bobby morgan waddling around? i dont think he does that anymore since losing weight, but its asses like you that im glad he quit writing his stories. and shame on barry for allowing your comment to be posted. maybe you and barry are waddling in the sheets together.

and shame on the messenger for a TERRIBLE write up on the story. it sounds as if noody was at the wreck because i got tired head reading all the story in the update and never see a single name. i guess of joe and baby are not there then the MESS doesnt report on news.

Anonymous said...

if joe or baby were there i think we would had names. what gives mr. eaton? i need a nap after reading through that accident on update. i'm completely lost.
speaking of that nameless write up....why was an eastbound car passing a westbound uhaul?

im just sayin

11:08 Sheesh. You seem to be as thin skinned as Morgan. Okay for you-but I thought reporters were supposed to let criticism from the public roll off their backs.

Morgan is a whiny baby. His writing (NOT his weight loss articles) uses the word "I" more than anything I've ever seen. He manages to turn his "reports" on local players, parents, officals, leagues into preachy rants that are just irritating. Most of his writing should appear on the editorial page. Or better yet, not appear at all.

The Duty's are fine people - all of them. I expect those of you dogging them have never spent time with them, met them, had dinner with them, or just took the time to visit while they're out on assignment.

Cody - you keep the columns coming. Anyone who complains is jealous of your success, and they'll just have to get over it.

Anonymous said...

1:59 Never said the Duty family isn't a nice crew. I admire Jake and Michael tremendously for serving their country, and Bobby is a fine family man. But Cody can't write worth squat. He needs to stick to photography. Or find a really good editor to help him with his articles.

Anonymous said...

This is for anonymous: You must have a terrible life as all you can do is pick on people that you don't really know and or do you know them and just talk about them behind their backs and are their best friends to their face????? If it bothers you so much about pictures of the grieving families then why are you even looking at the pictures and I can bet you anything you are the first one in line to buy a paper!!! The American people want to see the blood and guts and want all the details and that is why they read the paper or get on the blog to get the juicy details of the wrecks or fires.

Get a life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

I don't think Cody was sent to College to write columns, but he was asked to write about his experiences anyways. The columns take up his valuable time when he could be taking pictures, but instead he is writing columns. My advice to you is the next time you see a column by a Duty turn the page or just ignore it. No one twists your arm to read the columns, you just want to slam somebody that you may or may not really know!!!!!!!!!!

you must be the moron from boyd who asked mr. morgan to stop writing his losing battle series.

moron

anon 1:08 - any story that uses the word "i" in it is called an editorial. i have yet to see a sports story that mr. morgan wrote that had an "i" in unless it had a label on it "sports column". mr. morgan is the best sports writer we have been blessed to have. in fact, i just went through all of our football clippings from him covering our boy at bridgeport and none of them said "i" in it. i think you should write your opinion in a a letter to the editor and on be a coward and behind behind a computer screen

as for all the cody duty comments - why in the world is anyone complaining about a college student telling us about his life as an intern? i love it. thank you cody.

as for the duty's - good people and great boys

as for that wreck yesterday - why does the WCM not report names anymore on update? mayne anon 1:08 can get a job there since her knows who do to everyone else's job.

as for this comment - i'm rambling and tired of listening to myself

1:01, I agree with you. Morgan seems to be the "expert" on everthing he writes about and shames anyone who differs in opinion. I also know, for a fact, that he does NOT always report all the facts of a story. He really should be a politician because he is very "one sided." He writes partial facts in order to persuade readers that HIS opinion is right. Not attractive.

Anonymous said...

Nope, not going to turn the page. I'm going to read the column. And If I had an email address for COdy, I'd write him and suggest that he have someone edit his writing. He might learn something. Unless of course, 3:10, he has the attitude you seem to have. Since when is it asking too much that something published in a newspaper be well written. Oh, wait. We are talking about the Messenger here.

Never mind. Cody's a nice boy. And his family is nice, so no one should mention that he doesn't write well.

Anonymous said...

3:07 You are correct. The pictures in the paper of wrecks and grieving families serve to entertain the public. However, the photographer in question has justified his photos of grief by saying that he hopes these photos will cause people to be more careful.

I don't buy that. Again, you are correct. And you said it more forcefully than I would, "The American people want to see the blood and guts and want all the details and that is why they read the paper..." And THAT is why the photographer takes the pictures.

Anonymous said...

this blog post is about a bad wreck but all that is being talked about is other people. i expect this from kids, but adults?
geesh

Anonymous said...

I agree, Cody - great columns. Keep them coming.

Anonymous said...

3:45 I've got no dog in this fight, but I sure don't admire Morgan. I remember when he wrote a "column" calling out a volunteer youth coach, embarassing a nice man and hurting his family, and another where he called out a little kid youth football player. Yes, those are opinion pieces, but he takes cheap shots. And in a community this size, even if he doesn't use names, everybody knows exactly who he's talking about.

For a guy whose feelings are so easily hurt, he sure isn't very sensitive to the feelings of others. And I HAVE written letters to the editor about that.

Anonymous said...

That's right, why should anyone expect a mere college student to be able to write well.

Anonymous said...

Well....what I don't understand is how the boss of a newspaper allows an employee to showcase his inabilities (typing, gramatical errors etc...) on a public forum. Seems to me that if you can't spell and express elementary opinions, you shouldn't hold a job that requires you to be professional. Or is this the Wise County standard?

Anonymous said...

anon 6:32.
my daughter has played basketball for robert and i can asure you his feelings do not get hurt. he is a great man just like this youth football coach you brought up. and this youth football coach and his family who all wrote letters to the paper had no problem talking crap about him, therefore they are no better or worse than him when it comes to critisizing people in the paper.
i think all these comments are pure elementary. if you have a problem with robert, call him at the newspaper and be an adult. if you have a problem with joe duty, i bet you can reach him at the same number. and if you wanna trash talk his son, call joe duty.
i don't agree with the accident pictures the paper uses when a child is killed, and when i have a problem with it, i call the paper can complain. i think you should do the same thing and be adult about it - but i bet you're too scared to be identified.
on another subject, i guess since no one died at that accident on 380 the messenger didn't feel the need to tell us who was in the accident. nice work (not).

Anonymous said...

guess what you guys....

there was an accident on 380.

1) everyone i have dealt with at the WCM is great, including joe, cody and robert. they are lucky to have them. based on the letters to the editor in the last three papers, robert has a lot more friends than foes. i'm proud of you, sir.

2) the WCM has the names of the accident people FINALLY on the website. i wonder if they even went to the carange.

3) barry, i love how you now start each day out with a beautiful woman. that, my friend, is my breakfast of champions.

4) what happen to susies nest? now we're down to 9 resale shops.

5) i heard coach enis did not get the job in bowie - anyone know his plans?

the air ambulances to respond were air-evac 55 from mineral wells and life star 4 from decatur part of the air-evac lifeteam network.

Anonymous said...

we should see that the twenty year old driver that murdered the grandma is locked away thank god no one else was injured or killed

Anonymous said...

Susie's Nest guy wants to spend more time with his family.

11:38,

Yeah,OK, he coaches a city league girls b-ball team.

That doesn't explain the misspelled words and the decision to put people down on a public forum. Again, how does the boss of a publicised paper let that happen?

Anonymous said...

I'm glad to see that "Texas Ranger Jim Holland Thursday" made an arrest. Good job, Ranger Thursday.

And I've always been suspicious of people who "coach and train with horses."

Another FINE exmaple of the writing prowess of the folks who write for the Messenger.

Anonymous said...

I've always hated coaching with horses. If they don't agree with a play you call, they'll step on your foot, or leave a big, steaming pile of poop next to you. And training with them, forget it. They can't do anything with weights, but they get all arrogant and mouthy when you start running.

I memeber when I used to train with this horse named Bob. We were at the track and I wanted him to run the bleachers with me. He said "No, I'll fall and break a leg and then you'll shoot me."

don't be such a coward and call 940-627-5987....step up to the plate and call and ask and put on your big boy or girl pants and find out. better yet, stop by 115 south trinity and meet the bosses or mr. morgan and ask them to their faces.
oh wait....

Robert Morgan's writing certainly indicates that he has a "problem" with the female gender. I've noted that many times, but in his article of July 20 this attitude of his is evident. In the SUBLIMINAL MESSAGES article (Sports section) he refers to "the sappy mom" but then there's "the proud father." Another insult is the following quote from the article:

"'No pain, no gain'

I worked twice as hard as you on the family farm back in the day so suck it up because this is where we separate the men from the women."

Men from the WOMEN? Isn't that phrase actually "the men from the boys?"

Writers with such obvious bias should not be writing for the paper of a small community.

hey anon 8:23

read anon 12:41 post and call. be a man...or woman

Anonymous said...

what is wrong with sappy? i'm a sappy mom of 9 kids and i'm proud to be sappy.
robert - you go boy!

Anonymous said...

9:28, I've already complained to them. Just because you read an opinion on here doesn't mean this is the ONLY outlet for such an opinion. sheeeeeesh...how narrow minded are you!

1:43, if you don't see what I was talking about in "sappy vs proud" well, then you can't understand it anyway.

9:27, I'm guessing YOU are Morgan. What's the matter? Can't take constructive criticism? Proves my point about you even more.

my head hurts from reading this

Anonymous said...

wow, 9:52 must be jesus christ. i think we should all just shut up now.

Anonymous said...

Either my eyesight is bad, or your's is. There is no 9:52. ??? And you should capitalize Jesus Christ. Thank you.
