Random Wednesday Morning Thoughts

  • It's that annual UCLA "undie run" and thank goodness someone brought a camera to document the type of activity that offends me.
  • A couple of week's ago I wrote I was skeptical of a sexual assault claim made by a woman in Keller. While I was on vacation, apparently the police released a statement that it "may not have happened." But I can't find a link to it.
  • T. Boone Pickens comes across as a snake oil salesman.
  • Man, there is lots of Texas Tech hype this football preseason. I'll believe when I see it.
  • The television series Black Gold really isn't that good. But I'm glad I don't work on an oil rig. I'd be killed within 48 hours.
  • I don't understand anyone who eats in a restaurant by themselves but doesn't bring along something to read. Just staring off into to space seems weird to me.
  • They sell Viagra over the counter in the Mexican airport. Does that explain the high number of illegal immigrants?
  • I only drink skim milk. Even with cereal.
  • I've hyped the iPhone for five months now. I'm not backing off. Two weeks ago Apple added applications/programs to its iTunes store (most of them for free.) Man, good stuff.
  • During my cave exploring in Mexico, four 18 to 19 year olds were placed in my group of 8 to go with the guide. One of the kids kept referring to "when I was in Switzerland." Was it wrong to hate him for that?
  • Finished watching Coming To America last night. Kinda funny but, dare I say, overrated?
  • Man, there's a church on every corner in Wise County. So much so, you can find one that's "perfect" for you. Which seems backwards.
  • I'm still can't get used to a McDonalds being in Bridgeport.
  • I've not had a Big Mac since, at least, 1990.
  • Once again, I am a meteorological expert by accurately declaring Hurricane Dolly to be no big deal.
  • Argyle football player whom I feel sorry for if the allegations are not true. (And his family had $35,000 laying around to post as a cash bond.)
  • There's a quote that has always stuck with me from the old Moonlighting show when the characters played by Bruce Willis and Cybill Shepherd were being shot at. Shepherd, fearing death, asks Willis if he is religious. He replies, as bullets go flying by, "No, but if you know one that's big on forgiveness with a short initiation period, I might be interested."
  • Remember when everyone freaked when Magic Johnson announced he got The HIV? That was in 1991.
  • I haven't been to the Wise County Reunion since 1993. And I was only there then to park cars. I'm still getting the dust out of my eyes.
  • Stolen from bagofnothing.com: A satellite view of the high tone subdivision that the Jonas Brothers are moving into.
  • How is it that even the poorest of the poor in America are still fat? (Heard that on Generation Kill last night.)
  • Funny report from the Reunion last night: "I've never seen so much spitting in my life."
  • The Cowboys open up training camp on Friday. Man, there is no bigger beating than the press coverage of it over the next four weeks. "Patrick Crayton made an outstanding leaping grab over Terrence Newman during 7 on 7 drills." Yawn.
  • As I prepared to leave Mexico by getting in line to get my boarding pass, I couldn't find some danged postcard size customs form I was supposed to hang on to. At that point, the attendant said I couldn't get in line and "had to go see Immigration." All the life force was sucked out of me as I was pretty sure I'd be in Mexico for another week. But I walked down to the office, there was no line, they handed me another card to fill out, she stamped it, and I was on my way.

I feel sorry for the Argyle football players parents. But, I have a feeling the allegations are true since witnesses saw him screwing the unconscious girl in the bed of a pick-up. He has screwed up his entire life over screwing. Surely there was a willing conscious girl somewhere at that party.

dang BG.. to many dudes, not nuff muff..!!!

How does the witness know the fifteen year old was passed out? Oh, I guess it's because she wasn't texting...

Boone Pickens may be a snake oil salesman, but the tonic he is peddling nowadays is wind and other alternative power. And lots of folks will be lining up to get a bottle of that. Considering his success with previous projects, and the current view of foreign (and domestic) petroleum producers, I would call that a pretty good potion to have in the medicine cabinet.
And if snake means Dinosaur; and if oil means oil, then yes, I would also call him a snake oil salesman

Isn't there a city ordinance in Decatur that mandates that every time a new church is formed...a new fast food restaurant and a new law office must be opened in thirty days....

Texas Tech is overhyped, they had almost all the same players last year and look what they did last year?? they lost their best Defensive player, Joe Garcia and the WR Armedoa (not sure of the spelling) but they wont do shit this year. they are picked to be 2nd in the Big 12 south, wont happen!!!

i'm going out on a limb and predicting TTECH will be good. baylor will be bad. UT will be good. A$M will be mediocre.

8:18 what success?? Mesa Petro. Inc went bankrupt back in 80's, it was a publicly traded company headed by Pickens..which so did many independant oil producers, T-BONE is smart though and I'm happy to see someone him working toward energy independence..but just so you know Mr Pickens is not considered by his peers to be a great success as an oilman. In fact this wind thing has been around for several yrs now, where was he 6 or 8 yrs ago when wind energy was still in it's infancy? He's a johnny come lately, just out raising a shit load of $$$$..As usual BG is right..T-BONE has been a snake oil man all his life..watch the $$$..

Do Buzzards ever say "this just doesn't smell right" and are there things that turn there stomachs?

I have made comments on here several times about poor people being fat. Pickens has a standing offer to John Kerry that if he can prove the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth are lying, then he will give him a million dollars. The money is still on the table and Kerry Ketchup won't go near it.

You would be hard pressed to find someone who is a bigger news hog and observer of pop culture than myself but,I have no idea who on earth the Jonas Brothers are.

I only know they did this or that in some country. They buy big houses. They take underadvantaged retards to Disneyland. They get driven around in gold plated Hummers etc.

Just blurbs.

Once you are down with skim milk-drinking regular is like drinking liquid grease-disgusting

Annual Undie Run - All you young lads trying to impress the ladies, just remember, the summer sausage goes in the front not the back;

T.Boone Pickens and Wind - Need I say more? If it can't be stored and the wind doesn't blow, then what?

The pic of the Valero compound appears old. There are a lot more homes out there than what it shows. Justin Leonard, winner of the British Open, a few years ago lives there as well as a number of other well known folks. I have heard we would all be surprised. They like it because it's secluded, you'll drive right past it if you're not paying attention, and it's close to the airport. I hope to live there one day when I win the Lotto or win a major law suit or find out I have mineral rights to some land some long lost family member left me or write a best selling book on something interesting like why lent clings to your belly-button and how washing machines eat socks.

You can believe that if T Boone is trying to sell it in these commercials, he and a few of his cronies are in it to make a few more billions. They aren't doing it for the country, or any of us, just purely for his (their) own pockets! Remember, this is the guy who wants to buy and own the water aquifers and sell that water to you, that you now get for free.

Lets see, water, then wind, so the next thing should be him trying to buy, control and sell us the sunlight too. Gotta love a thief with BIG gonads!!

Poor people are fatter because it's expensive to eat healthy. Look at any fast food joint: .99 cheeseburgers or $6 salad. What would you do trying to feed a family of 5 or 6?

Anonymous said...

those of us who have known him 30 years or more call him T-BONE PICKENS!!

Jarhead said...

I wish Pickens would STFU. Every time he opens his piehole about $300/bbl oil, the price goes up. Keep your opinions to yourself, jerky.
-----
Texas Tech would be good if everyone just ignored them. They have a bad habit of sucking canal water (just like TCU) when over-hyped. At least they still own TAMU. As long as they keep making A&M their bitches, I'm happy.
-----
It's amazing how dumb those guys are on Black Gold. I'll bet the turnover rate on those rigs is astronomical because they go out and drink their paychecks every week and get fired the next day.
-----
Viagra is very useful as a recreational drug.
-----
Protestants are funny about their churches with all that switching around and stuff. My old next door neighbors went to 3 or 4 different churches in the 3 years we lived in Decatur. Not putting them down. Just an observation.
-----
Cybill Shepherd was hot in The Last Picture Show
-----
I think the term "Full Blown AIDS" is funny. And ironic.
-----
Not only are the poorest of the poor fat, but they also manage to afford cigarettes.
-----
"When I was in Switzerland" is the adolescent form of "As a(n) [insert profession]... I [think], [feel], [know] ~ the way people establish themselves as an "expert" on something before presenting their case. It's a form of insecurity. :)

If I was poor, I would not have 5 or 6 kids for one. I would eat salads made from lettuce that I bought at the store for 99 cents.

poor people are usually poor and overweight because of a lack of education. nuff said!

Poor Argyle Kid.... right place, wrong time.

Anonymous said...

I dont believe overweight people cant afford to eat healthy. I seem to always stand behind a family in the check-out at WalMart where the mom and kids are all HUGE and when you look in the basket, it is filled with cake, candy, chips, cookies, soft drinks and junk food - nothing healthy to be found. Maybe they are not educated on how to eat properly.

Yeah funny thing also about the Catholic Priests shopping around for new congregations for new little boys to molest. I guess it's the same as protestants switching churches but...different.

When one leaves after getting busted and another comes in does it EVER occur to the parishioners to wonder,"Why did this one come here?"

Just an observation.

Anonymous said...

I predict motorcycle deaths to increase in coming years.

Drug and Alcohol usuage will also increase.

Banjo lessons will decrease.

Jarhead said...

I think if you do your research, 10:10, that the incidence of Protestant pastors, or whatever you call them, molesting or sexually abusing women, other men and children is higher than that of Catholic priests accused of doing the same. The Catholic church reports, on average, about 228 cases of sexual abuse every year compared to about 260 annually for Protestant denominations. The Protestant numbers are harder to come by because of the de-centralized nature of the churches.

Get the facts straight before you start popping off. I'll even help you do your research since you're apparently incapable of doing so. Google "protestant sexual abuse" and you'll find several articles talking about the problem of sexual abuse in Protestant congregations that the media simply overlooks. That's not me saying that ~ the articles state it as well.

My argument doesn't absolve Catholic priests from past abuse, in fact, it sickens me. But ignorant people like 10:10 need to know that it's everyone's problem, not just a Catholic problem like the media would have us believe.

Just an observation.

I once owned a banjo and had to go to the post office. The banjo was in the back seat and I thought it would be safe if I locked the doors. When I came out, much to my surprise the back window was shattered and I looked in to see if my banjo was still there. To my surprise there were two banjos.

As reported in the DMN, when he proof was presented, Pickens welshed on his bet.

Anonymous said...

The proof was unsubstantiated. We are still waiting on Kerry's military records that he promised to release. Vote for me.

I bought the new 3G iphone. It's useless in Wise County (which I knew beforehand) and Tarrant County (which is p*&$ing me off!). All the Crackberryheads in my office give me grief but it is the 2nd best handheld device EVER!
---------
There are no poor people in America. Just ask anyone in Bangladesh, Myanmar, Zimbabwe......

trappedinchico said...

12:14, useless? The 3G is, but you still have data connectivity via EDGE. Yes, its ISDN speed but better than nothing.

When those Crackberry addicts start in on your, just ask them how their web browser is.

Elaine broke up with Puddy once for doing just that on an international flight. In her place, I would've done the same thing.

Selling Viagra over the counter at Mexican airports does not explain the high number of illegal aliens. It explains the high number of short attornies that vacation in Mexico. Vote for me.

Anonymous said...

Is there no one here concerned that a 15 year old was drunk to the point of passing out? That is tragic indeed.

Anonymous said...

It does appear that priests prefer little boys more than their protestant counterparts (whatever you call them). Can we have some Google statistics on this?

Jarhead said...

2:10,

You seem to be obsessed with the "gay" aspect of the sexual abuse. Is there something you're not telling us?

Did your creepy uncle touch you in your "bathing suit area" when you were a little boy?

Here's a doll. Point to where the bad man made you touch him.

I'll leave you with a question: is homosexual sexual abuse worse than heterosexual sexual abuse? Apparently you think so.

Most normal people think that any sexual abuse is deplorable and don't distiguish between abuse of males and females.

Keep thinking those gay thoughts!

They're both bad Jarhead and you're goin to hell.

The only 2 Catholic priests I have any personal knowledge of in this whole wide world I also know they would jack around with teenage boys in our area.

I was an adult before it ever occurred to me what one was doing with Father F. when we dropped him off to do "chores" Here's one you can have as a goof on me-I said once,"If you ever need help let me know. I'm always looking for jobs to make some money." The guy replied,"I don't think you'd be into the kind of work I do there, little dude"

One priest is dead and I have no idea where the other is but,I don't think either was ever outed in their lifetime.

Before you say,"Oh that's just 2 priests..." Probably the most important things in my experience with these priests is not that they were honestly the only 2 I've ever interacted with- but,I know for a fact they screwed little boys, they lived right there in Decatur and were never caught.

The problem is when the abuse comes to light it's swept under the rug over and over and over.

Their's is an unnatural, totally non-Biblical system of "chastity" that is guaranteed to fail. Because well,it' unnatural and totally non-Biblical.

You can't believe these problems are worse in protestant (whatever that means) churches. Human experience, cases that have come to light, the fact that the Catholic Church sweeps these cases under the rug continuously, families hush up victims on their own, people we've all known that have suffered without redress and just common sense shows the problem is worse than we'll ever know in this life.

another great line from moonlighting, bruce & cybill were investigating a car that exploded with a guy they were following in the car..so bruce says "if the car blew the guy to bits, then how come there are no bits of guy anywhere"?? i always thot that was kinna funny, that was a good show..i loved cybill in the diving board scene in last picture show..4STARS all the way!!!

Jarhead said...

Sounds like you've had some bad personal experiences there, slick. So, I guess you should just bury your head in the sand, put your fingers in your ears and say "lalalalalalalalalala" and then you'll feel better.

As for celibacy being "non-biblical" and unnatural, I guess Jesus was not celibate? Yeah, I guess not. He's about the best example of biblical celibacy I can think of...

As far as Catholic sexual abuse cases being swept under the rug, the statistics I guided you to seem to show that the Protestant cases are swept under the rug with the same regularity. You'd see that if you bothered to explore the world outside your little box.

I feel sorry that you seem to have lost your faith in humanity. You come across as a sad, bitter person.

And BTW, don't send your kids to Decatur schools because the laws of probability show that there are probably child molesting teachers there. Hell, read Barry's blog. At least weekly he's got some teacher screwing an underage kid somewhere. And somehow you see fit to overlook that and focus on Catholic priests, just like the mainstream media has done.

I hope someday you can see your way out of your cynicism. The world is really not that bad of a place. The actions of a few don't necessarily define an entire religion. Good luck to you.
