I like Pit Bulls, as targets.

They should out law everyone last pit bull and make an open season and as 11:42 said use them as target practice

Give every pit bull you see some antifreeze and the problem will eventually be eradicate

I'm just sayin

Don't you first three posters hate Rottweilers too?

Sounds like the mom of that kiddo has a wee bit of a problem. I know I wouldn't leave a 5 month old baby on a couch, unattended, while I went upstairs to take a shower.

Look for rat poison with brodifacoum. If it's not available one with warfarin will suffice. Place a light bulb in a towel and break it up with a hammer. Place a thumbnail size amount of poison in a small ball of hamburger meat with a few small pieces of the glass from the bulb(pin head size will do) and toss over the fence before they kill yours or somebody elses children.

Without parental control, a lot of different breeds of dogs could have done this. Not just rottweilers or pit bulls.

Just saying..........

2:59PM, you need to have your IP traced, visited by the cops and animal shelter people, and given a dose of your own medicine, you horrible arsehole.

I've always heard that poisoners start out with animals, and then advance to humans, because you are really screwed up in the head.

You must be one sick person. I spit upon you and wish evil things come your way.

I can tell you that if you try what 2:59 gives as a "remedy" any you are caught, you will be charged with animal cruelty. (This is a felony). It is not about the breed, more in how they are raised. If people would not train them to fight and be aggressive these problems would not exist. I have been bitten more by small yorkies and other small dogs than large breed dogs.
Killing a few dogs is not going to change the problem, we need to educate owners and weed out stupid people, not the dogs.

what should i do about my weener dog? every time i have a cute chick over he always humps their legs.i don't know what to do, this is really causing problems with my love life..

Anonymous said...

I know nothing about those cases in particular but,I'm willing to bet those dogs weren't raised for fighting nor do they need to be to initiate their aggressive drive.
The difference between them and the Yorkies that makes them particularly dangerous? Hundreds of pounds per square inch of power. Do you think for a minute you'd be defending those breeds if it was one of those that got you in the past? I mean I guess you might if you still had a face and hands but, something tells me no.

Had a pit for 16 years. Never bit anyone and never caused a problem. All seven grandkids play with the dog....pulled on her and rode her like a horse, never had one problem. It is how they are raised and treated at home. Just saying!!!! Sad day for parents of child.

My kids might have been somewhere at some time and found a loaded gun. Thank God they just never found a way to push the trigger.
If you let your children be around a pit bull you are retarded.

Anonymous said...

it's really about the animals temperment, some dogs just don't like kids..adults should always be on guard for this especially with larger dogs.pits do have more aggressive nature than most breeds so extra caution should always be taken when children are subjected to these animals.

It never amazes me that the ignorance of the people who have not had contact with dogs yet speak from the hip about them. Clearly not all pitbulls are bad as not all humans are bad if that were the case we would all be walking around with intentions of harming others and doing bad things night and day, which clearly isn't the case.

Pitbulls only know what they are taught, if they are taught to be agressive or abused they will be corrupt on the same token if they are taught to be be compassionate and loving they will be a lifelong friend and companion. It is about education of owners and not termination of dogs because those who are not responsible enough to walk across the street alone should never be owners of a chia pet let alone a dog. Those who need a tough looking dog to feed their ego need not apply to be the owner of a bully breed however those are typically the ones depicted in the media despite them being the minority of pitbull owners.

The majority of owners are common every day families who have extended their home to the loyal breed which according to www.atts.org (American Temperament Test Society)are ranked at the higher end of the temperament scale (84.3% based on 586 dogs tested through tests including behavior toward strangers, reaction to auditory and visual stiumli and self protective behaviors).

This is a higher percentage of passing than most of your common "household dogs" which include Bichon Frise (79.3%), Cardigan Welsh Corgi (75.4%), Chihuahua (70.3%), Dachshund (Standard Smooth) (70.2%), Mini Schnauzer (78.1%), Pomeranian (75.0%) and even the Toy Poodle (81.6%).

Clearly, figures do speak louder than rants on a message board. Still however if we can't all be convinced that responsible ownership is not the problem and the dogs still must be faulted, then lets discuss other dogs which have been at fault yet not publicized on CNN and local news to depict viciousness which instigates mass breed ban and termination appeal.

http://katzdawgs.tripod.com/attacks.htm

The link provided is one of many which will direct you to a list of stories which depict bokers, dachshunds, mix breeds, dalmations, shephards, bloodhounds and even pomeranians which have been a part of attacks which have been in some cases deadly. Focus on the case of the Pomeranian in particular, a dog which according to standard weighs between 3 and 7 pounds and it known for its adorable fluffy appearance, mauls an infant. Again if you note in the article it states the child was left unattended, like in so many cases with "pitbull" stories.

This is another case of neglected responsible ownership and discretion.

http://www.thedogpress.com/Columns/Jade/06_Media.Bias_07.htm

Again on this link more stories of the same nature, broken down by a first hand account by the author.

While I feel sorrow for those affected in any account of dog bites and maulings, it is unjust to target a specific breed claiming they are solely responsible for the entire brundt of the problems which America faces today. Instead we should be unbiased, but much like with our typical news headlines, headlines are ratings and ratings sell advertising and garner awards so the more we endorse shock value the more pocket padding we are helping ensure to these major news communities and the less and less fair and unbiased reporting is done.

I've had 2 chow mixes, one died after 18 years of giving, a month ago. My other is at least 14 years old. They grew up with my daughter, nieces, and nephews. They were protective always, and the older one would never lay down when any of the kids were in the pool. She would constantly circle making sure they were okay. They are loving, good dogs. I was amazed when we moved and people would stand back when we approached walking. Evidently they are suppose to be aggressive mean dogs. A while back, I was walking them and a loose lab came charging. Thinking a lab would never be aggressive--I got between them...now I have scars on my leg. Are Labs aggressive? Should they be put down? No, it is totally dependent on how they are reared. Many dogs have been abused and taught to be aggressive and we cannot have children attacked --they will have to be put down but the owners are also responsible as well as the parents who leave their children unattended around any animal. It is not the breed--same for humans--it is the owners or for humans the parents who are responsible for what they create.

More fun with statistics:
Pits account for 1-3% of dog population in US yet are responsible for 50+% of serious attacks
Pits/Rotts are involved in 50+% of dog attack deaths
Serious injuries resulting from bites are estimated at 1/16 for Pits 1/296 for Dobermans and 1/156 for German Sheperds
Have you ever read about an attack involving a Pit that people involved DIDN'T say to the effect," He was a sweet family pet. or I didn't think he would hurt a fly or The kids used to ride him like a horse" etc? Me neither. Have you EVER read an account where the owner or neighbors say anything to make you think that dog was raised for fighting? Me neither.

People are hinting or downright stating it's the fault of these childrens parents that these kids were attacked. That's so irrational as to be bizarre.
Comparing pit bulls to chihuahuas temeraments? Are you listening to yourself? Even if a Chihuahua is having the worst day of its life and wants to mortally rip your guts out it would be doing good to break the skin of one of your little snowflakes. A Pit
Bull grabs him you may not be able to get it off him if your standing over him with a bat the second it attacks much less if it has any amount of time and no one available strong enough to stop it.

1:03 I love your point. I have been attacked 3 times by German Shephards. One attack was so severe if the puncture was 1 inch to the right would have pierced my heart. I was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Do I hate Sherpards? Do I think we should kill them all? NO! Will I personally ever own one? NO!However, I am an owner of a rescued Pit Bull who was probably used as a breeder. Whoever ownned her cut her ears off, more than likely with scissors, and I mean completely off. I didn't take this decision lightly to bring her into my home with my kids and my other animals. But, what I did do was educate myself on her breed (which I already had done and continue to do) due to already having a mixed Pit) I don't know her past and I don't know what she has been through, but I can tell you that she is sweet and she is a loving dog. She is not at all agressive towards other dogs, she is scared of the cat and she will viciously lick you to death...that includes perfect strangers. Can I say without a shadow of a doubt that she will never bite someone? I can't say that about any of my dogs. I do know that ANY of my dogs with my child she can get in to any of their faces while they are eatting or chewing on a bone and I have no fear that they hurt her in any way. Why? Because, I set the boundries and I am the leader of the "pack". I am sorry for the parents of the children that these attacks have happened to and I feel for them. Do I feel my dog should be used as target practice or fed anti-freeze, just because she carries the Pit Bull name. Well, I think you know the answer to that. The problem IS the owners not the dogs. Too many people take on this breed and do not take them seriously. If you are going to be a Pit Bull, Rottie, Shephard or Doberman owner you have to be willing to educate yourself and put in alot of hard work and effort into your dog. So, stop blaming the dog and start looking to the owners!

When Pit Bulls are outlawed only outlaws will have Pit Bulls

remember dogs r people too!!!

Letting a Pitbull with a known history of abuse be around children? That is one of the most irrational things I've seen posted on this blog and that's saying a lot!
I hope that decision never comes back to haunt you but I wouldn't bet against it.

Pit Bulls? Kill 'em all and let God sort 'em out.

When I grew up it seemed every house in my neighborhood had pit bulls but back then everyone was afraid of Dobermans. We were told to stay away from them but it was fine to play with the pits. I've been around pit bulls my whole life raised my kids around them and the only person I ever saw attacked by a pit bull was some guy who decided he wanted to break into my house. My dog bit him a couple of times then held him in a corner until I got home. I've never seen him act that way before or since. For anyone who wants to know about and their temperments before shooting of poisoning them (shame on you by the way, any pit bull who comes your way would probally want nothing but love from you)Please do your home work on any so called dangerous breed. All dogs can be dangerous and we need to realize that dogs don't think like humans do, they just react. Please before you go on bashing pit bulls educate your self enough to know what you are talking about. I didn't want to letcure anyone but I will leave a few facts that you'll either beleive or you won't, all are true and if you do enough research you will find out the same info that I have:
Pit Bulls do not have locking jaws
they are the only breed of dog that has been bred NOT TO BITE HUMANS
they do share physical traits with 25 other dog breeds, so much so that the average person can't tell the differnence between a Boxer, Cane Corso, Bull Terrier,...etc and a Pit
They will do to the best of their ability what they are taght by their owner
They will do anything to please their owners
They can be because of their past be dog aggressive
In England Bully breeds (Bully breeds are a family of dogs that share ancestors e.i American pit bull terrier, staffordshire terrier,Bull terrier, amstaff terrier)the Staffordshire terrier which is basically a small pit is called the nanny dog because of its love of children. I personally own two American Pit Bull Terriers and a Bull Terrier and all of them love children. My youngest daughter when learning to walk use my big Male Pit to stabilize herself, she would grab onto his fur and pull on him when she was about to fall, he would just lean in the opposite direction to help keep her up, sounds like a wild animal that needs to be outlawed to me. That dog has been trampled on, stepped on, hit with toys all from my kids and he just loves them so much that he puts up with it. That is as all of my dogs are well raised pits.

Pit bulls = ratings
got you possting didn't it

Anything that slightly resembles a bull dog the media dubs a pit bull. Who has seen the pedigree on any of these involved in bites or attacks?

I am glad everyone doesn't decide to poison or kill all white kids because the one down the block stabbed and killed his dad last week.

I bet he wasn't raised with much love. Do you bashers honestly believe these dogs are to blame? Do you believe there are no good pits?

I would like the opportunity to try and show you otherwise. Is anyone open to find out?

It is awful that the few bad owners can ruin it for the rest of us responsible owners. I just pray one day the media will find another breed to hype up their stories.
