Who wrote that "editorial"? Was it the right-wing nut, Keith Bridwell? Whoever it was, they vividly display their not so latent prejudices. Have you ever noticed that the Index has several contributing writers who ALL seem to be right-wing religious nuts. Now there's a balanced newspaper!
Did you notice how the Index ran several pseudo news stories describing various "awards" Phil King got just before the election? I take that Index rag just to attempt to keep up with their version of west Wise happenings. And every now and then they actually write something nearly accurately – but not often.
It's one thing to be racist, but another to be racist and totally wrong. New Orleans is NOT comprised mainly of militant black people. It's not even comprised of mostly black people. Guess the editorial writer just assumes so, and further assumes all blacks are militant.
I'd rather be in a city of militant black people than in a city of stupid white people.
I was in New Orleans two months ago and encountered nothing of the sort. No, I just didn't stay at my hotel, I went to the Lower Ninth Ward. It looks better than Bridgeport!
The Index is the worst paper in the history of ever. Just try to find anything in there in the same place from week to week. Also, their main writer is still in High School. What the F...!
I know they are all NOT racist, BUT several years ago a Black family enrolled their children into the school system and the counselors had to tell the parents that their children were the only Black students in the whole school.
It didn't take me long to figure out that was NOT where I wanted to live or raise my children. I moved on......
Wasn't it a partial white guy that's running for President that said his grandmother was afraid whenever she had to pass a black man on the street, and Jesse Jackson said that he felt better whenever he heard footsteps at night behind him knowing that it was a white person?
I guess your point is that most people are still struggling with some form of latent racism, including blacks. I think that is true to some degree. The problem here, however, is that the writer of this "editorial" is displaying blantant, aggressive, vocal racism.
Obamma doesn't have any more control over what his peacher says than you and I do. Why should anyone condemn him for that, or try and hold him accountable - that's just plain stupid!
Amen 3:40!!! Not everyone in Bridgeport reads the Index, most don't agree with its "editorials" and few view it as a real newspaper. I know I don't. As a transplant....but over a decade now I've given up hoping it will ever be something more. I guess that's why we have this blog, huh? Thanks Barry for keeping us up to date on the real news!
9:43, Why didn't you move to New Orleans then? 11:22, Obammy has no control over what his preacher says but he does have control over whether to sit there and listen to him spew hate for 20 years.

By the way, I have a lot of black friends.
This is Bridgeport you're talking about folks.

Sad. Very sad, but true.
Yikes! That kind of ignorance disgusts even me!
Yes, 5:13 we noticed the articles on "sell himself" King in the Index.
Also noticed a full page ad in the Messenger with Decatur's Mayor Joe Lambert's name in support of King.
Hip Hip Hooray!
So who is right wing now?

12:20, Obammy's preacher sounded like a Klansmen against whites.
6:48
And your infantile use of "Obammy" just makes you sound like a regular Klansman.
There used to be a guy who worked at Boeing in Corinth whose name was Ray Sissom-for real.
Obamma doesn't have any more control over what his peacher says than you and I do. Why should anyone condemn him for that, or try and hold him accountable - that's just plain stupid!
And, I'm a Republican.
I prefer my Klansmen to be decaf.
To the point about Obama's preacher: Bridgeport has no control over what the Index says either.

And what, precisely, do you think you are spewing?
8:50, It's called truth. I know it's a strange concept but you should embrace it. It will set you free.
