The online edition of The Update appears to be overtaken with ads. Especially that big one smack dab in the middle. Either that's an HTML screwup or the next thing you know we'll be hit with those pop ups that the Dallas Morning News wants to abuse you with.

Sheesh is right Barry!
Not only is it too big, it is just plain gaudy.
Surely this is a messup.
Paaaraaz da Lord and pass the ammonition!
Yes, the WCM is just trying to rake in every dime and nickle they can get.
I hate the Grace Fellowship/ Update ad placement! The Devil and all Update readers.
Plus the ad lacks the "grace" of a well-placed ad.
Obviously it's not an error otherwise they surely would have fixed it by now.
It can be very lonely for some during the holidays. I think it sounds like FUN! Merry Christmas!
I applaud them for taking the time and effort to have something like this during the holidays.
It looks like a really funny Christmas program.
My family is going to check it out.
I bet it is going to be a blast. check out www.jimandjim.com for some of there stuff
The last two posts sound like members.
I guess if you have enough money you can purchase ad space anyplace. I have never seen the update sell out like this before.
I am not saying it won't be a nice time - I am just saying it is overkill.
I guess it worked, because I'm going to check it out now. I've never heard of it before this! Go God!
I don't think its overkill. I think it sounds like they just want to reach out and invite people. Hope they have a huge crowd, afterall HE is the Reason for the season.
I'd rather be sad and lonely than spend my Xmas eve and day at Grace Fellowship.
Yes, 4:46, He is the reason for the season. It is NOT gathering folks from other churches, and enticing the youth with rock music.
Give it time. Folks will get bored with this and return to the sacredness of mainline churches who will not buy into merging the secular with the sacred.
1:53 - Our family will go too, but only if they have a petting zoo, concession stands and Willie Nelson.
The Church ad is beyond the WCM or any other mortal's control. It is an Act of God. God put that ad there, and no man or woman can remove it. And the good news is that if you can see the ad, God has not called your number yet.
I think I'll not bathe, change clothes or comb my hair, then shoot some meth, snort some coke, drop some acid, smoke a joint, do some pharmas, and drink a fifth of Jack before I go - that's the only way I could deal with having such a blast over there. I'm sure all those sweet Grace Fellowship people will feel great compassion for me. Maybe they'll give me some dough so I can go to rehab. What do y'all think?
Come on 5:55--God loves you and so do we!!
Whats funny about this whole blog here is that it has actually turned into more of a promotion for the whole show other than a bash toward it so go on, make fun.
Besides the reason for churches is not a competition to see how many people they can get to attend services, its to get more people to know Christ and what he did for all of us, I don't know when this turned into a competition but churches only do best when they work together to get people to know Christ. Thats my two cents.
Have a very merry Christmas!

11:05 - you are right about the reason for churches. They exist to tell folks about Christ.
The next step is service. This is where many churches sort of stop.
As tempting as it is, we just can't stay inside the church where things are all sweet and nice. It's what happens after we leave that really does the Lord's work.
And that isn't pretty. It is stinky.....and scary.
