August Fatal Wreck Update

94 mph with a .12 blood alcohol concentration is a very bad combination.

Story.

This would have never happened if he had been riding a motorcycle while going to his teachers house for sex.

Pretty insignificant at this point, don't you think?

I'm sure the kids families take comfort in the article...

Guess it wasn't the road's fault after all.

Ms. Tidwell suing Marshall Owen? I assume that's a civil suit... logic being????? My question is why is Mr. Owen not in jail charged with accessory to murder? That would seem more appropriate.
Oh by the way do a lot of you still think marijuana usage is so harmless?

i can understand why she is suing the c-store, but why is she suing Lowe's father? He didn't provide the alcohol of marjiauna, unless i'm missing something, those suits sound frivolous.

To annon 1236:
I see that you read the article and since you read that they were smoking marijuana I hope that you also saw that the BAL (blood-alcohol level) was 0.12 1 & 1/2 times the limit, yet interestingly enough the article did leave out the toxicology level of marijuana...was it to insignificant to matter...

I find it interesting that kids who make LOTS of bad decisions seem to have parents that always say "all kids make these kinds of mistakes", or "all kids are going to get into trouble at one time or another", or "accidents happen". This was not an accident, unless being drunk and driving 94 mph is unavoidable. That is not the case. You don't hear "good kids make good decisions", because there's not any front page news associated with the good decisions made by kids who have the benefit of good parenting. Kids who come home at curfew, don't drink, and know how to say "hell no". Sick and tired of what seems to be the default attitude that kids are just going to make bad mistakes. Young people are VERY capable of making solid choices, steering clear of trouble, and knowing what not to do.

Trust me you are missing something. If I gave my minor child a gun and a handful of Xanax I would go to prison if he killed someone. Parents know, even when they won't admit it, when their kids are screwing up. This man chose to provide his son with a weapon which subsequently caused horrible death and damage to several others. Should he not be held accountable?

3:00 p.m.

The police get Blood Alcohol levels fairly quick, however blood test for drugs are done in Austin and take up to six months to get back, if they are done at all when you already have alcohol levels way above the legal limit.

I agree 3:00. 12:36 seems to blame it all on the marijuana, quickly forgetting how drunk they were in the first place.

Upon entering the ER.. a full trauma panel is performed for any accident.. in said panel there is tox screen that is performed along with the BAL and the results are in less than 15 minutes...now I realize that this is Protected Health Information, but a preliminary report is available
