Chaos

I'm getting bombarded with emails about the long-time manager of the Decatur Walmart leaving his position.

That's news because Wise County revolves around Walmart. After all, it is our Vatican.

(Be nice with the comments.)

I'll be as nice as I can be without saying Walmart's going to shit. I was in there today and actually wondered what the hell was going on. It is really going downhill at mach speed. Curtis at least kept the employees looking their best (which may not have always been top-notch, but their personal best, nonetheless). The cashiers always wore smocks and lately I have noticed they do not. Today, all of them had on dark/navy blue t-shirts, but honest to God some of those t-shirts I wouldn't use for dust rags they were so worn, stained and faded. Some people have NO PRIDE.

No pride? they are working at WalMart fer Christ's sake!

Maybe the new guy will be able to train them to fetch some shopping carts before they run completely out and the little old ladies have to go fetch their own out of the freakin' parking lot.

11:04, you're in Wal-Mart, buying cheap crap from China, and concerned about smockless employees?

It's Wal-Mart and it's Decatur. What can we expect? I'm sure we can nit-pick most Wal-Marts. Remember Bowie's before they got a new one?
I was in there yesterday, too. I didn't notice the blue t-shirts. I guess I don't pay much attention to what the cashiers are wearing since I never use one. No matter how much is in my basket, I use the self checkout service. Marvelous invention!

curtis is a good person and ran the store top notch. i hope this is because he found something better and not because of some ploy by the chinese...(aka walmart)

WalMart comes into town and all the small stores go out of business then prices go up. Example, red bell peppers at WalMart Saturday were almost $3.00 but at Brookshires were $1.00!

The only place to shop to keep from buying something from China is to go junkin and buy something from Japan!

One item I will not buy from WalMart is beef.

About the t-shirts, they match the ones the customrers are wearing. Guess they were made in China too!

And fresh vegetables???? What is fresh when it is shipped from China or South America. The best buy is frozen.

For years we were able to live by shopping at the local grocery store and dry good store.

It wasn't bad. We did just fine.

Did anyone stop to think that Curtis may be going to the Wal-Mart in Bowie??

House of R & R said...

I'm sorry but, would you please tell me where that Brookshire’s is in Decatur? I must have missed it.

In my case, I settle. If I need quite a few things it is more convenient for me to go to Wal-Mart than to travel from store to store picking up the items. As far as comparable pricing, what other choice do we have in Decatur? IGA is ridiculous. And, I don’t care if the poor IGA had to raise its prices to stay afloat due to non-business, how greedy can they be when the quality didn’t change.

If we had another grocery store then things would be different.

Don't I remember reading that it was supposedly pretty much a certainty (how's that for count on it - maybe)Bridgeport was getting a new store?

If not maybe there will be one in the acreage that I read Decatur just annexed off 380. Would make more sense than some of the things they have done recently.

I honestly believe that if Target came to town it would hurt Walmart. Not a whole lot, but i know thats where i would go.

So where is Curtis going?? Anyone??

Anonymous said...

I dont get my meat at Walmart!!

Hey gator, I liked you better when your name was Marie Antoinette.

OH NO~~WAL-MART WON'T BE THE SAME WITHOUT THE LITTLE GUY, HE IS THE NICEST MAN....YOU KNOW HE HAS FOUND SOMETHING BETTER...BECAUSE THAT MAN DEDICATED HIS ENTIRE LIFE TO THAT PLACE. HE WILL BE MISSED. THE COMMUNITY HAS BEEN BLESSED FOR HAVING HAD HIM, OUR SCHOOLS HAVE HAD MANY BAKESALES AND IF CURTIS HAD ANYTHING TO SAY...THOSE KIDS GOT TO SET IN THE SHADE, HE IS REALLY A PEOPLE PERSON. GOOD LUCK CURTIS AND GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY......

Target is VASTLY superior in EVERYWAY to Wal-Mart.

Is he the one-armed man on the roller skates? Don't shoot me down.

Alberson's needs to move onto the new annex.

Wal Mart in Decatur is a social event for most of you. I hate that place. It's like running the GAUNTLET, or running with the BULLS!

rpm said...

r & r, you are WAY off base about IGA. They are still operating at the same margin they have been for the last 15 years. Wholesale prices went up, not mark-up's. You can say a lot of things about IGA, but jacking up prices to stay in business isn't one of them. As bad as you may hate to hear it, WalMart keeps that Decatur IGA in business with people that hate the WalMart "experience".

House of R & R said...

I believe it 1:54. Wal-mart probably does keep IGA in business. I have several friends that refuse to go to Wal-Mart due to the crowds therefore, they go to IGA.

give IGA to the Mexicans they cator to them so much anyway.
Walmart is right behind them going downhill. Please tell me we will get a new food and meat dept. at this new store.

I'm a Metroplex transplant and I'd give ANYTHING to have a real grocery store come to town. Namely a Tom Thumb.

Curtis has been the manager at Decatur since I believe 1982. I heard that on Friday he called a meeting and announced his immediate retirement. He will work at the Walmart in Bowie for 3 days a week until he gets his 30 years in with the chain. After 6 months if he chooses he can come back to Decatur as an hourly. Something sure stinks about this. For a guy who dedicated his life to the company and community it sounds like he may be getting the wrong end of the stick from the boys in Bentonville. I wish Curtis only the best going forward, he is a very good guy!

5:05pm

I hope they hire you, so you sack my groceries.

Anonymous said...

I'd be willing to bet Curtis has a little something going on with the North side of Decatur. *wink* He will be just fine.

And you can forget about any decent grocery stores ever coming to Decatur (or Bridgeport for that matter). Albertsons, Kroger, and Brookshires have all already said you need A LOT more residences to make it profitable... and that big blue Superstore doesn't make it any more desirable.

Anonymous said...

I don't know Curtis personally. Perhaps he is getting a raw deal from corporate, but if he has been with the company for 25 years, I can assure you he will be getting a very hefty $ amount in profit sharing (and if he was very smart, he bought stock from day one). Being an hourly until retirement wouldn't be so bad, but I can't imagine him doing it in Decatur.
Plus, if you always think "Well, it's only Walmart AND it's only Decatur, then I guess you will never be disappointed with your lowered expectations. But that's just sad if you think it will never get any better. You have to expect a trade-off for living in a small town. It usually comes in the form of fewer options for shopping, higher gas prices, etc. But go try some of that rush hour gridlock, high crime rate and city/county ordinances up the wazoo. Some of us actually choose to live here, while it seems others just can't find their way out of the county!

Does anyone know the reason a store manager in one location for some 27 years would suddenly decide to walk away? Bad health?

Anonymous said...

NO. its not bad health ...do i know the real reason.... yes.is it everyone in this counties buisness.... negative. so all u people that just keep running your mouth shut your mouth till u have the real story..which only a hand full do... curtis your family is in ur prayers...

WOW!
I knew it would happen and CONGRATULATIONS you are the one who made it happen.
There is ALWAYS that one person, who in typical Wise County fashion, KNOWS the REAL scoop but is NOT telling and takes it upon themselves to tell EVERYONE else to shut up because EVERYONE else is WRONG.

The REAL reason people need to zip it about Curtis leaving his current job is because it is RUDE and considered by MOST people to be GOSSIP to discuss the PERSONAL business of an absent third party.

Anonymous said...

WELL MZCHIEF 9:02 AGAIN.. how would u feel if this was your family...jw

mzchief said...

To 9:02/10:27...
YOU did not seem to care about whose family it was when YOU joined in gossiping. Yep, YOU were gossiping when YOU chimed in and said it was not a health issue and "know the real reason..." and were praying for his family.

Please, note that at NO point have I ventured a guess or participated in the gossip regarding what should be a PRIVATE matter between an employee and their employer.

Anonymous said...

MZCHIEF THIS IS 9:02,10:27 AGAIN...so u wanna tell me that stating facts is gossiping..hmmm your funny...o and me stating that im praying for them is gossiping u have a total diffrent perspective on gossip...huh? mzhief mzchief mzchief

To 3:14...
ANYtime you discuss the PRIVATE/PERSONAL matters of an absent third party, YOU are GOSSIPING. It does not matter if what you are discussing is factual or not, you are STILL gossiping. This is a FACT and standard of society that most DECENT people are taught when they are CHILDREN.

Here is a wee bit of knowledge that my grandmother taught me when I was a VERY young child that MAY help YOU; "It is not your tale to tell unless you are the only one mentioned in the tale."

Just to let you know that it is not only my family that has such strong moral convictions with regard to NOT gossiping, Eleanor Roosevelt said; "Great minds discuss ideas. Average minds discuss events. Small minds discuss people."

By the standards of MOST decent people, YOU were gossiping.

You're Welcome!

STOCK!!! I worked here when that little white two story on the hill next to the old Walmart (Tractor Supply) with the out-barns were taken down. Leaders from Walmart, city, aaa-hem I must quit now, were greatly treated kindly. U can ask the past administrators about the stock options in Decatur - No Answer.
U probably did not know that 1998-1999 Decatur Super-Center led the sales for the United States for Walmart, thank u Curtis for the honesty of information. Explanation for that was that Decatur served Jack, Palo Pinto, Wise, Denton, some Cooke, Montague, some Clay, and alot of Tarrant County's population. There was not another Walmart with that population served until it evened out in 2001. Let us then be average, the site in Decatur at the right time was greatly "appreciated" by the Arkansas natives. When that great book is wrote in later years u will be Wise County SUPRISED.

7:21pm your rambling a little there. MZCHIEF, as usual you continue to state the obvious in your “self enlightened” way.

Well, during my Banjo lesson today, I heard he's taking the job of the Janitor found dead in the closet with the bag over his head.

YOU are a petty, jealous git. Ooopppsssieee! There I go again stating the obvious.

Anyone that does not like Wal-Mart certainly does not have to do business there. Curtis has done a fine job regardless of why he is leaving. All of those years of service is explaination enough for his skills as a manager. Don't like the way they dress, don't like the store or how they run business, just don't shop there.

Wal-Mart has been going down hill ever since the owner of Wal-Mart passed away. They are not American made products anymore and as of this there is no more lay-a- way I wish Brookshire or Albertson anything would come here and I would probably never go back into Wal-Mart again unless it was an emergency.
