Just Heard This Book Advertised On WBAP

Guaranteed? That would have answered all my earlier questions about prayer.

Greta, you may be something buzzards wouldn't eat but I have to agree with you completely on this one.

His prayers will be answered in direct proportion to his sales.

what happens when two of his customers have conflicting prayers?

prayers are answered...it's just that sometimes God answers "no, not now".. sometimes...just "no."

Prayers are answered? Once again, there is always an explanation, such as "sometimes the answer is no". C'mon people. God responds to all prayers? And has a plan for everyone? Typical WASP thinking. Hey, what do you suppose is God's plan for the naked black man that right now is slipping through the jungle in New Guinea in hopes of killing a monkey and bringing it back to his village for supper or to trade, along with a few pigs, to the chief in the neighboring village so he can marry a 13-year old girl from that village? I guess God's plan for him is "kill a monkey and trade it and possess a wife". And the next day, kill another monkey. Point is, it's so easy as Americans to "Americanize" everything. For a change, think about all your religious beliefs in the greater context. Will help you realize how silly it all is.

Religion is hocus pocus for those with limited mental resources - or a guilty conscious.

Um...has anyone actually read the book under discussion?

Anonymous said...

Yes, I have read 3 different versions of it and I still do not buy into it.
King James, New American Standard, and the Catholic version.
I gave up trying to figure out which one was written by the true god.

ALL Bibles are written by MEN.

I pray WordKyle, and all the other neo-cons or whatever we intellectual liberal thinkers choose to call them who post on this blog, (you know, those sheeple), GET A FREAKING CLUE.

And AMEN to all you ANONS from another damned ANON on this particular post.

Oh yeah, Happy New Year to everyone, even MzCreep.

and who "scribed" the TEN COMMANDMENTS?? The Bible was written by the hands of men... but the message was given to those men by GOD! Jesus is QUOTED in the Bible. I am very sorry for those of you who do not know the Lord. You are missing such substance in this life on Earth. Go to church...go to a Bible study class... LISTEN and then give God a chance to make a difference in your life.

9:40 - Do you realize that the Bible and the Koran are based on the same God and the same prophets? The Jews only use the Old Testament, Christians add the New and the Koran is Mohammed's version. Little of the texts were written for decades or centuries after the events - in several languages and translations. Don't you recognize how much the text and meaning was altered between the event and their written versions? Don't you recognize that the gospels are a "selected" group with some excluded (edited out by someone).

Live by the basic principles of decent behavior as described (variously) in these texts. But do not rely on literal translations of ancient fairy tales.

PERHAPS the content of religious texts are "the inspired word of God" HOWEVER, every single person/organization/religion who has spread the "word of God" has had and does have an AGENDA. That being the case there is NO possible way the "inspired word of God" has not in SOME manner or another been bastardized by well meaning and/or self-serving people.

Even the Jews unlike the Christians have the good sense to acknowledge the "Torah"/"Old Testament" is NOT a purely historical text and is meant to teach lessons through ALLEGORY.

"Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by the rulers as useful."
~Seneca the Younger 4 b.c.-65 a.c.
