We're so fat as a society. This is bound to happen, though it will be many, many generations before 14, 15, 20 pound babies are the norm. The genetic changes take a while. Like when the first black skinned people moved away from the Equator and became caucasian or other.

My blessed grandmother gave birth (at home) to a twelve pound baby. In her later years she was found to be diabetic. Diabetics usually have high weight babies.

I hope this mom and baby will be ok.
