I have had a home in Wise County for 21 years and have NEVER been to the Wise County Old Settler’s Reunion festival and the WCMessenger article makes me feel better about never having gone. However, the Grapevine Grapefest the first weekend in September is ALWAYS fantastic and I do not even drink wine.
Reunion in a nutshell- People sittin around drinking "whatever" and gossiping about each other and the kids running around everywhere or riding the rides.

Reunion may be stupid. But where else can you see the principal of Decatur High School get wasted along with other prominent figures of the community. That's entertainment for me. Sad I know... But then again, this is Wise County.

The reunion means different things to different people. To me and my family, it truly is a "reunion", relatives come in from out of town and we all get together and visit and our children enjoy the rides and each other. It's a long standing tradition in Wise County. mzchief I'm sorry that you have NEVER been to the reunion to meet up with old friends and to listen to good music, it's not to late to join in the fun. I appreciate your right not to attend and I may have to go to Grapevine this year and check it out.

reunion is just an excuse for the "good" people of Decatur to run around like heathens. I dare any of you who think it is good wholesome fun to walk around the camps quietly when it is late without a flashlight and observe what is going on. Teenagers as well as adults, drinking, fornicating, and who knows what else. I won't ever let my kids go there unsupervised when they get old enough to want to.
Yep, many a child was conceived at the Wise county Reunion campsites...or in the parking lots in back seats! However, adults ARE adults, and they can choose to drink if they wish. No one's business. Teens on the other hand............
Anyone who post the DHS priciPAL has never drank @ at the decatur social season is one of two things:
1) uninformed 2) trying their best ot cover for her.
I have PERSONALLY seen the princiPAL & hubby, beer in hand, w/ school children in the area. Ask former DHS teachers if they ever saw her drink. They will tell you. So quit lying trying to continue the ruse that's already being promoted.
Besides, why call it "WISE COUNTY". The only folks who have camps are those from decatur or whose bosses and families are from decatur.
First of all, the prinipal of the high school is an adult past the age of 21 that is legally anf morally allowed to drink. If she's walking around the carnival shamshed that's one thing. Sitting in a private camp is another. Any adult should have that right! And I am sure not too many teachers will sell her out since they are also of age and if they want to drink that is none of our business unless they do it at school.
Why don't we ask the new board members if she is going to be held to the same moral turpitude clause in her contract she likes to reference for other school employees?
With such a high profile position concerning our children, she should have the decency to keep it in the walls of her own home. Don't flaunt it at Reunion. She will probably turn in half of the highschoolers just for having been seen at reunion....get them suspended. Kind of a double standard if you ask me.

If some of you people have nothing better to do than sit around and gossip about others while hiding behind an anonymous screenname then I truly feel sorry for you. If that makes you feel important than you are a very sad, immature person. The reunion is a longstanding and unique tradition and it is one of the many reasons that make Wise County a great place to live. It is about having a good time and gathering with family and friends. If you do not agree with it or choose not to go out there then that is completely up to you. However, there is no reasson to come to a "blog" and spread lies about people that you do not even know. I for one, am going to go out and enjoy the last night of reunion. What everyone else does is their own business. I hope everyone has a good day...
