Get real~~ Fort Worth is the city, Wise County doesn't even rate for something like an Art Festival..you go to Fort Worth for Culture, you don't go to Wise County...nobody wants to go to Wise County..got it?
No one ever goes to Tarrant County --that is why Barry was at the Arts Festival....I'm from Wise County and guess what? I was also at the Festival & have gone every year since 1990. And guess who you run into at the Arts Festival? Other people from Wise County!LOL I agree Wise County does have a group of talented artiest & I do think that they have a art contest every year? Are they did. I think they go on display at the Bank? The Fort Worth Arts Festival is one of the biggest in the world. With artiest from all over.
Yikes! There's nothing wrong with having hometown pride but try to keep it somewhere within the bounds of rational thinking. Wise County has more than a LOOOONG way to go to be able to compete with Fort Worth as a cultural centre.
The Kimball Art Museum is internationally known as "America's best small museum" and is regarded as one of the most outstanding public art facilities in the world. NOT because it features home grown talent!
For the most part, the majority of the 200+ artists who participate in the MAIN ST. Fort Worth Arts Festival are NOT even from Texas much less the DFW area. The artists who are selected by a panel of judges are picked from thousands of applicants from all over the country. What do you bet not even one of the "wonderful" artists from Wise County has ever been selected to participate in the festival.
I'm sure Wise County has some outstanding qualities but when it comes to competing with Fort Worth's arts community Wise County ranks among the stuff you scrape off the bottom of your boots after having walked through the cow pasture.
You actually would NOT want an arts festival like Main Street Arts Festival to come to Wise County. The artists are not local, and they come because Fort Worthians and others buy their stuff. Not a good impact on the Fort Worth and local economy or for local artists and shops. No different than if you drove to New Mexico or wherever to buy from these artists back at their home shops. Sure, it's fun to go and neat to see the creativity, but from a purely economic sense, it's a losing proposition for the host community.
You're insane if you think that Main Street Arts Festival is NOT good for the Tarrant County economy!!! There are tons of food vendors - ALL local as well as for the local movie theaters, bars, and downtown shops. They showcase many local groups talents on different stages too. They may or may not be getting paid, but they get exposure. Not-to-mention the area hotels. Fort Worth does this for the revenue. Geez!
Who cares WHERE the artists are from??? People who appreciate culture appreciate diversity (usually) and where the artists come from does not matter. There is also great opportunities to be exposed to great music.
As far as having this in Wise County? Gotta start somewhere - be it small then let it grow. Not everyone in Wise County is oil field trash, trailer trash, or rock crusher trash. And MONEY has nothing to do with that!
All of you bashing Wise County art are a bunch of retards!
Look around...you drive by a kick-ass piece of art everyday. The Wise County Courthouse is an awesome work of art. I can't think of another courthouse in the state of Texas that is more pleasing to the eye.
Retards? Thought about that one long and hard, didn't you "Big Cat Daddy". They're tearing down the old water tower (which happens to be one of the few left of it's kind in the state) and leaving those beautiful radio towers for us to look at. Drive into Decatur from any direction and decide which is aesthetically more pleasing, the water tower or the radio towers. And they lied about the reasons to bring them down. Take down the big one, leave the oldest one, throw a coat of paint on it and light it up. Then drive into town and check out the skyline. The courthouse and the water tower. Art.
bigcatdaddy...You're absolutely correct! The Wise County Courthouse is one of the nicest examples of the Romanesque Revival style of courthouse. Ellis County has a fantastic red stone courthouse. However, my favourite Romanesque Revival courthouse is of white limestone in Victoria County. Brick for brick, stone for stone Texas has the all time best courthouses. What a pity one fabulous piece of architecture is not all it takes to establish an arts community.
This is an awesome site if you're interested in seeing more Texas courthouses. http://www.texascourthouses.com/

Neat photos!......I'd love to see Wise County have an arts festival and invite area artists from surrounding counties to participate.
And throw in a bit of cool jazz music! Invite Kenny G or another one of those awesome saxaphonists.
Hey, this county is growing. Must Tarrant county have everything?
Get real~~ Fort Worth is the city, Wise County doesn't even rate for something like an Art Festival..you go to Fort Worth for Culture, you don't go to Wise County...nobody wants to go to Wise County..got it?
6:59 you would be suprised how many wonderful aritsts there are in Wise Co....Don't under estimate Wise Co.
I can't believe somebody actually used the word "awesome" and "Kenny G" in the same sentence. You have your fanny pack on too tight.
And worst ass shot ever, Barry.
No 6:39 - I DON'T get it.....Wise County CAN rate for something like an Arts Festival.
We have an abundance of culture right here. Check out the 380 Players - an up and coming performing group.
Sorry bub, but not everybody goes to Tarrant County......
....not anymore.
No, you don't get it anon 7:40.....

Great comments 11:57 - Wise County WILL have a thriving arts community. It has already started. And what people want will not be stopped.
And it isn't all going to be country, though I'd buy a ticket to see old Willie anytime.
:-)
Look around, people. Art is illegal in Wise County, especially Decatur

What is considered oilfield, trailer, and rock crusher trash?
Are you referring to people?

11:20...did I say anything about the Decatur skyline??? NOOOO I DIDN'T! All I was talking about was the beauty of the courthouse.
Some of y'all need to think outside of the box when it comes to art. Art isn't limited to a painting on canvas.
Bigcatdaddy is Correct ...
Wise County does have one of the Best Courthouses in the State.
Also the town square gives you that "Home Town" feeling you can not get just anywhere ...
I think it would be great to have more social attractions in Decatur ...
But I do think our public immage does suffer .... and we need to do what we can to support our County Seat :)
