I'm Going Back

While listening to the millionth story on the Duke lacrosse scandal this morning, I heard the reporter say that today was the "last day of classes" at the school. Last day? On April 26th?

Yeah. Last day. There are different types (semesters, trimesters, quarters) of school calendars.

w/ finals beginnig on Friday or Monday.

Last day of classes here at UNT. Next week is dead week, then we have finals. Mostly the same at every school.

Looks like college classroom days are being reduced so professors can rest up. Those poor folks actually have to show up to teach a class two or three days a week for a total of 6 or 8 hours of class work. And students must spend a few more hours before claiming their A's in art appreciation and history of pet management.

American colleges are becoming babysitters for post teens with no concept of what real-life is all about.

Anon 8:37,
What are you talking about? Most professors, not teaching assistants or lecturers have 4 classes everyday monday through friday-not to mention office hours. Your statement about American colleges becoming babysitters makes no sense either. Most if not all college students I know already have an excellent concept of what "real life" is all about. If real life consists of having 15 hours of college classes and working 35 hours a week and paying all my bills-I can pretty much bet the students that don't rely on mommy or daddy already are ready. I have a question for you. Do you have a concept of what "real life" is all about?
