Mattie's

The old Mattie's restaurant is going to become something called Sweetie Pie Ribeyes (or something very odd like that). I don't know what in the heck they are doing up there, but construction workers have been banging on that building for two months or more. And they are applying for a liquor license.

That is really exciting about the restaurant - and a liquor license?

Hot dog. Now the jurors can hang out and really relax....

They are doing extensive remodeling plus asbestos was found in the building. I don't know what all happens at that point but know it isn't easy on the pocketbook.

This is a new concept by the same people/person who owns Babe's in Roanoke and other areas.

Yeah, I heard it was going to be a steak-house, that's actually open for dinner. Finally, a good place to hang out & drink on the square.

Hello, this is James Suckalot reminding you that if you or anyone are diagnosed with MESOTHELEOMA due to asbestos exposure from eating at Sweetie Pies, please call me at once.

Does anyone have an idea when it might open it's doors? I can't wait. We need a good steak house. I love Cow Camp but they don't have a non-smoking section for us that prefer to breath while we eat.

anon 3:44 - yes, hang out on the square and drink.

Sure wouldn't want to leave that place looped.

It's bad enough driving through that crowded mess....

....sober!

Woo-hoo!! A place to drink on the square. Before long, we might even open a strip club on the square. Then we'll really be uptown!! Yes, I'm a conservative and I think that alcohol will be what turns this town into just another trashy suburb just like all these others around Dallas. I hope Mr. Gage and all the others who voted for this are happy in a few years.

Another question regarding alcohol sales: We've sold it for nearly two years now, and where's our Albertson's?

8:17, please explain to me how another eating establishment serving drinks is going to turn Decatur into a "trashy suburb". I think you have painted this with a really wide brush, oh and by the way I suppose the sky is falling as well. A strip club,I don't think you have to worry about that. Man you are really a very negative, sad person. If you don't want progress or expansion, go live on the moon.

I don't think Albertson's wants to compete with Walmart. They would probably go to Bridgeport first just so they could isolate the Walmart crowd. Makes more sense to me. Our only hope is that those idiots don't pass alcohol sales.

anon 9:22 -- Albertson's in Bridgeport would be wonderful ~ we need a good/clean grocery store! Guess if you idoits can pass alcohol sales, us smart people can too.

8:17 - Man, you must be an idiot. Have you ever left Wise County? If so, you sure haven't been to a steakhouse anywhere else.

I just feel really bad for you if you really believe that alcohol is what is going to make Decatur trashy...

Yes, I've left Wise county and have been to establishments that serve alcohol. I just choose to eat my food without consuming alcohol. As far as calling me an idiot, I was expressing my opinion. I was not name-calling anyone else. IN MY OPINION (you don't have to agree), a dry town is a special place to live. I just feel that selling beer and wine will expand into liquor sales, then clubs, etc. established in our community. I've seen this happen in other cities. I'd rather not live somewhere that accomodates these things. AND yes, folks, I will move somewhere else when the city takes it that far. These are MY OPINIONS. 8:34 and 3:38, I feel sorry for you two for feeling sorry for me. Some day, you might understand where I come from.

God bless!!

You would be hard pressed to find a town that really is "dry". Even if they are "dry", restaurants and private clubs can apply for a liquor license so they can sell alcohol. As far as alcohol ruining Decatur...I think just mere growth will, because with growth comes all the other things. So, if you don't want all the other things, you will have to move to a town that doesn't want to grow...uh, such as BOWIE!

Yeah and just wait until Ft. Worth starts moving up 287. Ever been to Fossil Creek? Imagine seeing that up and down 287. I say hell yes. But thats just me.

I thought it was going to be a "Babe's" restaurant like the one in Roanoke. I was getting excited. Love that place, and eat there every chance I get. Lines are usually 30 minutes or more long, especially after church on Sunday morning, but definately worth the wait. Nothing but fried chicken or chicken fried steak, with fixings, and it's just great.

You're worried about Alcohol sales? How about you tackle the Wise County Meth problem.
