Restrictor plates impede the speed...so, why are they "racing?"

Drove down one of our main thoroughfares yesterday, saw a big "Jeff Gordon" flag/banner hanging from a home's eaves. Thought of the Blog...shook my head...yeesh...
That wasn't my house...I can't stand Jeff Gordon. Now, if there was a Tony Stewart flag out there....it might be mine.
